  1. Start low - 14' open boat with a 10hp will get you out there. While I'm not in the market - locally I could get a 14' Lund fishing boat for $600, and a guy in my neighborhood rebuilds and sells old motors...he's Johnson/Evinrude certified...a 10hp around $500 So save up for a bit and start small. What I'm doing to my recently purchased, used 14' Alumacraft is the type of thing you see done at Tiny Boat Nation.
  2. If you want to go really cheap Ice chisel to make a hole - $30 5 gallon bucket to carry gear and fish - $5 Warm clothes - just layer what you got Ugly Stick ice combo - $30 Selection of jigs and some plastics - $30-50 License - $25 Lake Map - there's some free online you can print out. Lets you get out into the basins that during open water you need a boat to get to....under $150 to get fishing.
  3. Our license dates are different. Since the walleye/pike/bass season closes the end of February, our license is valid March 1 to February 28(29) of the next calendar year.
  4. I just looked it up. Normal fee is $54 - over twice what ours is. Disabled Vets, recovering military, low income seniors, etc get reduced fees - but for the ordinary Joe (or Mary) that's the cost.
  5. Optimas use 'SpiralAGM' technology - that's why they have the cylinder shapes.
  6. West Marine is another retailer that gets their batteries from East Penn.
  7. I'll say it again - all my best catches either on chatter or swim jig have had a Berkley Pit Boss trailer.
  8. I do not know of this 'work' you speak of. (happily retired)
  9. Or you've just been that good to her the past year.
  10. 10# 832 Hi-Vis to 6# InvizX #2 or 1/0 VMC Spinshot Neko for most - hook size dependent on plastic size (TRD Craws, TRD Hogs, TRD Worms, etc on the #2 - Zoom Finesse, GYCB Senko, etc on the 1/0) 2/0 Spinshot Wide Gap for 'fatter' plastics (Rage Craw, Brush Hog, Fat Albert Twin-Tail) I'm also a mostly horizontal kind of guy - toss it a ways out, slowly work it back. Cylinder weights for the most part, teardrop if the bottom warrants it.
  11. Wells Fargo is on top of things still. Got a notice of a possible fraud charge on my debit card - I logged into my account and confirmed it was not something I purchased. WF refused the charge...no money left my account. They also decided that the card-info breach was worrisome enough that they sent me a new card, with new number, without my asking. New card is up and running - any further tries on my old number will be automatically refused. I love Wells Fargo.
  12. I use Mozilla Account since I use FireFox on all four of my devices - syncs bookmarks and passwords across them all.
  13. Or cut it off, get a bolt-on on, drill holes...done That's what I'm doing with mine next year...moron before me put a 2" wide coupler on a 3" frame...by squeezing the front end of the frame.
  14. One for Yule... If a reindeer lost it's tail, where would it get a new one? At a re-tail store.
  15. I did say most, Andy. I've had Wells Fargo also cover me the few times something like this has happened. Never an issue, never a problem at my end with their service.
  16. Debit cards are more susceptible...most banks don't cover errors with them like the Credit Card companies do their cards.
  17. Maybe - but I avoid them like the plague...reasons.
  18. Wife (laptop) and I (desktop, netbook) are both still running Win-7 Pro...with no plans to upgrade. I got programs I still use that will NOT work with Win-8, much less Win-10.
  19. Based on my mood that day. Some days it's all about spinners, chatters, cranks - so fast. Other days it's shakey, drop-shot, ned - slow and patient. So really it depends.
  20. I'm sure they apologized to Lynn by licking her senseless.
  21. I think you mean 'techno-phile' A technophobe would be afraid of the new technology...that's just one step up from a luddite.
  22. ^ What Mike said. Also - to what reel do you balance the rod for? Take spinning. I have three different reels from two manufacturers that are pretty much the same. Mitchell Avocet RZT-2000 Pflueger President XT-LE 30 Pflueger Supreme 30 All pretty much the same size reel, holding the same amount of line. But the weights are different. 7.5oz to 8.7oz So which of these do I want the rod to balance to? What if I change reels? Balance point is pretty much meaningless unless you tailor the rod to a specific reel...and never put a different reel on that rod.
  23. Ya, I even treat my Trion and my Avocet RZTs better than that.
