Favorite Swim Jig Trailers
I use a lot of Keitechs because it just has that big wide kick without the body roll. Sounds backwards but around heavy grass and pads the cover is causing the jig to deflect and move. The keitech paddle tail seems to start up quicker and excels at slower speeds. This is important me as I roll the jig off the pads. When I do throw a swim jig in open water I prefer bigger paddle tails with flat sided bodies. I can’t say that any really outshine the other. Still have yet to try the Dwalker though.

Best 2 rods?
Falcon Head Turner and Amistad.

Daiwa Fuego casting reel
I have a Fuego and Tatula CT which are the same reel. Both have been great. I also have SVs, chronarchs, curado, etc and the CT reels just feel like tanks. I use them on my frog and jig rods

Crankbait setup questions
I throw squarebills and shallow divers on two rods. One is 6’8” and the other 6’9”.

Advantages of lighter baitcasters?
I prefer faster gear ratios when fishing shallow water. Bass are fast and often they will run straight at the boat full speed when hooked. I don’t fish any reel below 7:1 anymore. Lighter reels and rods give you more stamina. Spending 8 hours on a boat in 90 degree heat will wear you out. Adding a 6 oz rod and 8 oz reel to the equation just makes it worse.

If so then even more disappointing.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Conveyer belt damage most likely. The cardboard looked like it was torn apart so I’m guessing it got caught in a conveyer belt turn It was fairly inexpensive and I bought it solely because you don’t find old school American made rods new with tags anymore. But of course the first ever damaged rod tube I’ve received was one that couldn’t be replaced lol

I was super excited to find a brand new Falcon Lowrider XG on sale last week. It’s probably the last XG with tags on it in the world lol. USPS did not share my enthusiasm! Luckily the rod looks fine but time will tell if damage was done.

Lakes with a bad rap
There’s a smallish state lake by me that nobody ever fishes. It had that reputation. Well the state drained the lake this winter to reconstruct the dam and they moved about a dozen bass over 8 pounds. The comments on the Facebook post showing pics of those big girls were hilarious. Complete disbelief

Tournaments without electronics
I fish a river system where electronics are not very useful. They can help at time but most of your success is visually reading the current and visible structure like pads and shallow lay downs. However when you get to the main lake electronics are a must fishing old road beds and stump fields in 10 foot of water.

Feeling Bad For Killing A Fish?
I no doubt blinded one a few weeks back. All three points on the treble were through eye tissue. Now I’ve caught enough one eyed fish to know they can survive but still felt bad for the little guy. Caught another on the very next cast and I was back at it

Who said bass fishing wasn’t exciting. Ike being a part of it just made even more intense. Love him or not he’s great for tv

Quantum Reels
Don’t quote me but I’m pretty sure JLee was Quantum until switching to Abu in 2019. If so they had KVD, Swindle, and JLee while watching their market share slip away. If I was Quantum I’d really try to take over the budget market. Focus on those $40 combos at Walmart and Academy. Zebco needs to get back to its roots selling entry level equipment that lasts. It doesn’t have to be “good” just bulletproof. Then you hope to ride those margins and break even on your higher end PT reels. Maybe sponsor some up and comers that are cheap and hope one hits. Also they have finally started adding “cool” factor colors to some of their lineup. Younger anglers are really flocking to Lews and 13 for the lime green or orange gear. Companies like Daiwa and Shimano have the name power to stay away from the rat race but others are going to die being “boring”. See Pflueger. Who’s Quantum’s target base? They need to figure it out quickly

Quantum Reels
It’s just a solid reel for the money. Aluminum frame, quality drag, good brakes, smooth, powerful, and comfortable. Only downside is it weighs almost 8 ounces out of the box. But it fishes great

Quantum Reels
Yep you can get a S3 all day on eBay for $100-110. The KVD s3 is even less. The Icon PT at $45 on eBay is best deal going in fishing.
-
Quantum Reels
Their marketing plan for 2 decades was just KVD. I’ve owned and never had any problems with an PT series reels. They sale a lot of cheap junk at Walmart I wouldnt waste my money on.

Fausse Point
I really appreciate the info. Hopefully one way or the other we will run into some fish somewhere! I just don’t want to get stuck lol

Fausse Point
Man I hate to hear that about Martin. Chicot is intriguing but a little bit further of a drive than we wanted to go. We are staying at Delcanbre so it’s be an hour and half drive. But I may be able to get out there one of the days especially if we strike out elsewhere At Fausse would you put in at Dauterive or the levee? Is there any water over 2-3 ft deep? Could I even get a 20 ft bass boat in it?
-
Fausse Point
Thanks!! Was worried about the depth as I know some of the other lakes around are super shallow too. Are there any other public freshwater lakes near Iberia that are better? Would I be better off going to Martin? I’ve actually been on it before
-
Fausse Point
Anyone ever fished Fausse Point around New Iberia? I’ll be down there the next few days with the boat. Any quick tips would be appreciated. Not much info online

MLF-Sturgeon Bay
41-80 gets $3k instead of $0. I’d guess they had a vote to share the payout 1-80 instead of 1-40 due to the unique year where tournaments were cancelled. Just a guess

Falcon Rods DISCONTINUING Cara Line of Rods???
I don’t blame Falcon at all. They wanted to continue putting out an excellent product at an affordable price and going overseas was necessary to do so. I just sold several much more expensive USA made rods and replaced them with Experts. Truly fantastic rods so I cannot wait for the new Cara line
