Garmin Striker 7SV question...
As long as you’re moving at 3-5 mph it should work. If you are sitting still or slowly moving around it will just return a scrambled picture. Also remember that as you turn your trolling motor the transducer turns as well. Its not a bad feature to have on your trolling motor. You can go full speed down a bank or in a cove without cranking the outboard. The GT52 mounts flush to the trolling motor and is not too large. If the price is similar I’d still go with the SV.

Who does Deep Fried Turkey
I might have to try it on my little pellet smoker for Christmas. I’ve been smoking pork and beef ribs for years but not much poultry. Thanks!

Who does Deep Fried Turkey
How do you smoke yours? I’ve had several really good ones and more than a few dry and terrible birds. Never attempted to smoke one myself. Frying is bullet proof and my wife would murder me if I tried a different method lol

Garmin Striker 7SV question...
You need to be moving 4-5 mph for side view to work. Just thought it should be mentioned since you stated the transducer was going on your trolling motor. You should be fine if going full speed

The latest sale thread
Truth is you can find deals better than 95% of Black Friday throughout the year if you are a diligent shopper or just keep an eye open. There will always be a couple of true deals to be had but for the most part it’s just used as an inventory dump. You have to be careful with electronics and refer to the serial numbers. Even brands you trust such as Sony, Samsung, etc will produce limited runs of lower quality units for BF. I still make BF orders from Tackle Warehouse, Lowe’s, and Home Depot every year though.

Blowing up on shad
There were so many shad popping yesterday it sounded like it was raining

Blowing up on shad
I should’ve tried an under spin. Instead I slow rolled a chatterbait that I took the skirt off of. I really thought it was going to be the ticket too. It looked and felt really good but couldn’t generate any bites.

Blowing up on shad
Thanks guys. I’ve matched the hatch pretty well and have tried sizing up a bit just to see if a larger profile may be attractive. I have not tried a buzzbait or WP yet. That is a good idea. The topwater I’ve used are frogs and spooks. The flutter spoon or hair jig is another good idea. I’ve tried yoyoing a rattletrap but it was a smaller trap with a slower sink rate.

Blowing up on shad
I’m finding it very difficult to catch quality fish that are blowing up on shad. In back pockets containing huge shad schools there are nice 2+ pounders blowing up everywhere. Some of them come completely out of the water. However only the small 10-14 inchers will bite. I’ve tried topwater, jerkbaits, flukes, cranks, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, rattle traps and even worms. Nothing seems to work. Do you guys have any tricks that I’m missing? It’s incredibly frustrating watching 5 pound fish blowing up 3 feet from your bait all day and not catching any of them! Is it just a case of throw as many casts as possible and eventually one or two will bite? Fishing river systems full of shad is relatively new for me. I’ve spent most of my life fishing lakes where bluegill were the main forage and I’m very comfortable with that. Sometimes I think turning a blind eye to the shad and fishing areas on the main lake containing structure that hold fish year round would be more productive. But it’s tough ignoring these large populations of quality fish in small areas.

You ever eat a LMB that you catch?
I’ve eaten a ton of bass in my lifetime. Fried bass doesn’t taste any different than fried perch or bream. Honestly it can be better than fried catfish sometimes. There’s no other way to eat freshwater fish

Best fishing gloves for cold weather?
Aka the setup professional bbq folk use. I can honestly say I haven’t even considered this for fishing. But I’m going to try it

Hey squarebill guys and gals...
LC 1.5 in Golden Shiner has been killer for me this fall. Ive always had good luck with the Brat. There’s one lake nearby that the Brat out fishes other square bills 3 to 1. I think it’s just the smaller profile that really works well some places

Kistler or ALX
I have a H3 7’3 heavy and the ALX Toadface. Both are decent and if I had to choose I’d probably go with the H3. Build quality and performance are really close between the two. The H3 has a little faster tip. But I think they’re better rods out there for the $$$. The Falcon and Shimano rods I own in relatively the same length and power are better sticks in my opinion. And maybe even cheaper

7’ all around casting rod shopping
It’s unfortunate that Academy no long fulfills Dobyns warranties.

7’ all around casting rod shopping
The Fury warranty isn’t great. You end up paying $70 bucks for a new rod. The Dobyns warranty program really picks up with the Champion where you can replace a $230 rod for $90.

7’ all around casting rod shopping
I have another on the way. Offered seller (ALF) on eBay $150 for a brand new model and they accepted it. You won’t find a better rod for that price I guarantee it

jerk bait/spook and square bill rod
I sold my jerkbait rod because I only used it a few times a year. But I still don’t throw them on the same rod as squarebills. It has more to do with line than rods though. I throw square bills and spooks on 15lb mono and jerkbaits on 10-12 pound flouro. I will say that to me a rod is not that important for spooks. Others may disagree but I would buy a rod for either square bills or jerkbaits depending on which you use the most. You can make the other 2 work when needed

I'm getting picky in my old age
Falcon makes great well rounded sticks due to their taper. If you add a Head Turner and Amistad to either the Swim Jig or Finesse Jig rod you can pretty much throw anything under 1.5 ounces

Land Between the Lakes
I know I’m late to this but we went camping here about 10 years ago. Late summer trip with college buds. We caught a ton of bass and cooked them at camp. Each night we were awoken by cougar screams and one night we had a visitor in camp around 2 am. Woke up to something going through our gear and sniffing out tent. It was definitely not a fun feeling. Next morning discovered red wolf prints all over camp. Also ran into quite a few rattlesnakes. Amazing place that’s full of life. Definitely need to be on your toes though
