Crankin rods - moderate vs mod/fast?
I prefer a mod/fast for shallow water cranking such as squarebills and traps. Finding the balance between having the horse power to steer the fish out of cover and enough flex to keep a fish pinned is key.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Started the year off with a PB spot. We don’t grow them like TN and AL lol. Caught on a 3/4 oz single colorado spinner bait. Weighed 3.57lb

What’s the last rod/reel you purchased that you ended up regretting?
Only one I regret was my own fault. I bought a St Croix ML expecting it to have a little less power than their M but it was a dang noodle. I sold it and moved on just like I have many times. But I enjoy buying and selling Biggest disappointment is a tie between Lews MB and Revo SX

What is up with the Menace clones
I wish more companies would use the plastic bubble packaging. It may cost me an extra 50 cents to buy but I’m so tired of buying bagged baits with appendages or tails stuck sideways. They never seem to run right. I bought a pack of Missle Ned Bombs several weeks ago and only 3 in the whole pack had straight tails.

Are big pros really using budget gear?
The majority of pros I see are using rods in the $120-250 range. I don’t consider that “budget”. Those are workhorses

2021 Falcon Cara..Fit and Finish Review
Received my new Cara today. I ended up ordering the 7’4 Heavy after speaking with Falcon. Technique wise it’s their football jig rod although I have other plans. It weighs between 4.1 and 4.2 ounces and the action is noticeably faster than the Expert line. I’m looking forward to putting in some time with it this weekend. Tackle Warehouse taped the free shirt to the rod and bent all 3 guides under it. Kind of ticked me off but I gently bent them out and will get over it

Ebay Listing.... How does this happen?
Semi rated but gave me a good laugh. Some guy on Facebook is trying to sale a used Chronarch Ci4 for $220 and fighting those who say it’s worth less. Some people man

Ebay Listing.... How does this happen?
These scams probably work around the holidays when spouses and family members are buying gifts they know nothing about. I guarantee you if I told my wife to buy me a Plano Edge for Christmas and this listing was the first to pull up she’d have purchased it

Are big pros really using budget gear?
Seems like it varies depending on the sponsors. Some guys are sponsored by G Loomis, Megabass, Shimano, etc and have high end gear on their decks. Pretty much all of the major manufacturers have high end gear including Abu, Lews, etc. Even the Bass Pro guys have the Johnny Morris gear which is no slouch. You also have David Dudley throwing $70 Proficiency rods too though. At the end of the day I don’t think those guys put as much emphasis on high end rods and reels as weekend fisherman who have to pay for gear and expect it to last years.

First time in over 10 years....
A fresh spool of mono feels so good. I don’t think I’ll ever be zero mono

Selling off reels/rods
I’ve shipped 4 or 5 in the last several years and most I paid was $16
-
Selling off reels/rods
Sell them. You can ship rods USPS priority for around $12-15 in cardboard rod tubes as long as you meet their size requirement. Reels are usually $8 to ship.

Mono Users: Green, Camo, or Clear?
I only use green mono. Since fluorocarbon is clear It allows me to easily remember what I have on each reel

How much will you drop on a pair of sneakers?
I buy ASICS on sale around the holiday for $100-120. They last 2 years. Haven’t bought another brand in 12 years although I may pick up a pair of ON next

Fishing Shallow Lakes
Quick google search shows a lot of docks and sea walls. I would start there and cover water with a squarebill, swim jig, spinner bait, bladed jig, etc.

Daiwa Tatula 100 versus Daiwa Tatula Elite?
Im not a mathematician but at the end of a long cast all reels will have a reduced IPT. I’m not sure how much reel world difference there would be
-
Daiwa Tatula 100 versus Daiwa Tatula Elite?
The 8.1 100 feels very underpowered. The Elite and Coastal SV are really nice reels that I enjoy using. The 100 and CT are definitely great for the money but I prefer the 7 ratio

Putting together a skipping combo.
Don’t overthink it. Use a rod with a nice tip that can load up and tie on something that has a large surface area (think toad or beaver). 90% of it is the angle. High quality, fresh, supple Line is your friend

Be still, my beating heart. New Zillion 1000 vid
I’ll stick with the Elites, SVs and Coastals. It’s a good looking reel though. I have too many rods to warrant spending close to $400 after tax on one reel. I just don’t fish enough and when I do I’m rotating through a dozen setups

Triumph or HMG?
Triumph is the worst rod I ever owned. I’d rather buy one of the bass pro house branded rods

My Most Productive Baits ~ 2020 Edition
Had a kid this spring so wasn’t able to fish as much I’d have liked. However when I did it really seemed to be the year of the squarebill. The three that really shined were the Brat, LC 1.5, and Little John. They consistently produced from January through December especially on days where nothing else was firing. In other words they saved a few awful days. However my two most productive days didn’t include a squarebill at all. Both were exclusively Texas rig days with either a Menace or Pit Boss. I’ve really taken a liking to throwing a Menace on a Jungle flipping 3/0 and 1/8oz bullet.
