NCAA Football Bowl Games
Have you already started hating Oklahoma and Texas or will you wait till they're officially in the SEC.

Affording a Bass Boat at 22
Yeah, if you have a daughter she's probably gonna want to get married one day and will expect you to pay for it. A wedding cost between one and two bass boats.

NCAA Football Bowl Games
Just my humble opinion. I think Oklahoma will be a better team after they join the SEC. I think a lot of high school prospects want to play in the premier conference and want to showcase their talent against the best competition. Playing quality opponents week in and week out will make them a better team even if it means more losses. It's hard to get to the SEC championship game but when you do you have a good chance of making to the playoffs. 10 of the 32 slots in the playoffs have been from the SEC since the current format started in 2014. It not a north vs south thing. Florida beat us but couldn't beat UCF in their bowl game. That's embarrassing. We played well against Georgia but loss. If they win the championship, I can feel better about that.

The SEC shares equally all revenue from TV contracts, bowls games, proceeds from SEC and NCAA playoffs and championships. It's was $43 million per school in 2019.

I agree most fans don’t care about the conference money other than it let’s them build better facilities and a stronger athletic program. The only exception in the SEC is Vanderbilt which spends the money on academics. That’s why they are last in the SEC in football and first in the SEC in academic reputation.

Something you learn as you get older. The people that live big in their 20s struggle under the debt they’ve accumulate as they get older. The guy that is driving the old clunker at age 30 even though he makes good money is they guy who will be retired and driving the Mercedes at 55.

I agree we need to take them down by beating them on the field and in recruiting. I don’t think having Michigan and Cincinnati do it helps our cause.

I root for my team and my conference for several reasons. Every team in the SEC except Vanderbilt is in a bowl game. That’s a lot of bowl revenue and Vanderbilt get’s as much of it as any other team because the money is divided equally among all SEC schools. A strong conference benefits the whole conference and is a big reason the SEC has been so dominant in recent years. Georgia and Alabama proved on the field that they are better than Tennessee this year. Them loosing to Michigan and Cincinnati would just makes Tennessee look worse and wouldn’t make me feel any better. We need to step up and not hope that Alabama and Georgia will step down.

I’m a little embarrassed to ask this for some reason. Does Chic-Fil-A qualify as a sandwich shop?

So I Received a Christmas Bonus...
Congratulations on the bonus. From the post you’ve made about the hotel I would say you’ve earned it.

Influencing others.
I think it was Gary Klein who told a story about how he was catching fish and was able to distract his co angler by offering him one of the lures he was catching them on. Once they guy got the lure tied on Gary switched lures and kept catching fish while the other guy was not. The co angler kept changing lures and never realized that Gary had figured out how the fish were relating to cover and it had nothing to do with the lure he was using.

Rod balance
Moment of Inertia is inherent in an object just like it’s weight. It determines how much torque is needed to produce rotational acceleration. When casting, the higher the moment of inertia, the more torque you need to apply to get the rod tip moving at the desired speed. When you apply force to the butt of the rod when you cast you are using leverage to apply torque during the cast.

I'm going with Georgia over Alabama in the championship game.

Rod balance
At some point people started balancing their rod & reel on their finger with the theory that the closer the rod balances to the reel the better. There are threads on here where people posted pictures of this "balance point" test. It's kind of a modern way to prove the superiority of a combo I think. In terms of physics this doesn't make a lot of sense. As you raise the rod up from this balanced state, the reel begins to add torque. Then there's the bait. Any degree of balance goes out the window when you add a bait. Most anglers I know fish with a bait and with their rod raised above the horizontal position. If having a rod that's balanced when held horizontally and without a bait makes you happy, just add weight to the butt of the rod until it balances where you hold the rod. Just know that this will increase the moment of inertia of the rod which is not good in my opinion.

The Computer Age
I was first exposed to computers when I took a programming course my senior year of high school in 1980. We were using Radio Shack TRS80 computers. I took to it quickly and I became a software developer after I graduated from college. The technology has changed a lot in the last 40 years.

What's the average strike ratio?
I will give my opinion on this question. I think the percentage is very low. Probably less than 1% on average. I think electrofishing results suggest that there are substantially more fish in the areas we fish than most of us realize. A boater will quickly fish a stretch of bank and then move on if he doesn’t get a bite. A bank fisherman will pick apart the same water for an hour or more and catch fish the boater left behind. My real question is, should we focus more on trying improve our personal strike ratio. If I could raise mine from 0.5% to 1.0% would that have a bigger impact on my success than using MEGA Live to improve my ability to find fish? How much of a professional fisherman’s success is in his ability to simple get a fish to bite that would have ignored other angler’s lures? It’s something to think about on a cold winter day. Thanks for your responses.

Diminishing returns.
This topic is probably the most contentious topic on this forum. In terms of helping you catch fish, it's far more important to have the right rod than an expensive rod. I think a $70 rod that has the right weight and action for what you're doing will catch more fish than a $600 rod that does not, even if the difference in weight and action is small. There are other reasons to buy nice rods other than to catch more fish. A lot of guys like using nice rods just like a lot of people like driving nice cars even though you don't need a Corvette just to get to work.

Maybe he just needed a hug
It’s much easier and more rewarding to be nice to someone than it is to be mean to someone. Yet so many people seem to prefer the later.

What's the average strike ratio?
This is what high percentage fishing looks like.

What's the average strike ratio?
Yeah, maybe 10% of the fish that swam after his lure. The percentage of strikes of those that were aware of his lure was much lower.
