  1. Looking for anyone other then *** that is selling theese rods. Can't find them anywhere else. And if anyone has used one yet let me know how you liked them. Always liked the older orginal falcon rods I have. Now looking hard at the new experts. Thanks everyone and take care.
  2. I own both the wacky rig and the drop-shot mojo rods. I use the wacky rig for mostly shakey-heads and weightless flukes and i use the drop shot for drop shots and small split shot rigs. If I had to pick just one i would go with the wacky rig just because it could probally do a little more than the drop shot. But either way you won't be disapointed. Awsome rods and for the price they can't be beat. I know it sucks that they only have a 5 year warranty but I can look past that.
  3. Was wondering if anyone makes or can just paint customized reel grips? I own about 9 pairs of them. most in desert camo. which are cool. but nothing would be sweeter then some west virginia mountaineers reel grips. Or at lest just wvu gold and blue. if anyone knows a place i could get them done like that let me know.
  4. I carry 5 when i'm tournament fishing or just fishing on a regular day. I can usally pick 5 baits, one that fits each rod and out of those 5 baits one will catch a fish and if not then it's more than likey going to be a long day no matter what I throw at them. I do have about a dozen or so pre-tied carolina rigs ready to rig up and a few extra drop shots tied up. but that is about all that takes more than a few seconds to re-tie.
  5. I throw shakey heads probally more than any other lure. I've had several rods and a few reels but I have finally settled on my shimano sustain 100fe and my st. croix mojo wacky rig 6'8 M spinning rod. can't say enough about that rod and for 90 bucks i give it a 9.5 out of 10. only thing could make it better is the warranty on it.
  6. Shimano Symetre 500FJ (awsome ultralight reel worth the 100 bucks) St. Croix 6' Triumph L Spinning Rod 4lb P-Line Evoultion Catch alot of trout, crappie, bream, walleye but I love to go wade the Little Tennessee River and fish minows and hook into a few 3 and 4 pound smallies.
  7. I have both the drop-shot and the wacky style spinning rods in the mojo series. both are awsome rods. i perfer the wacky style for shakey heads and most finess baits. never have used diawa rods so i can't speak for them.
  8. I use a 6'8" H action Kistler Magnesium rod and i have it paried with a shimano curado 100d spooled with 15 lb. p-line flouro and a 10 pound flouro leader.
  9. One of my fall back techniques is to throw a 4" zoom meathead (watermelon) on a small split shot rig. Sometimes that will out fish my standard shakey-head and drop shot cold water techniques. Hope you lay them out.
  10. I have both and would pick the sustain over the stradic fi. The sustain is a little smoother. but both are awsome reels in my book.
  11. 1. 3/16oz Spot Remover jig head/Zoom finesse worm (green pumpkin) 2. Lucky Craft sammy 100 (ghost minow) 3. XCalibur Xr50 rattle bait (pearl melon) 4. 3/8oz War Eagle spinnerbait (mouse or spot remover) 5. Luck "E" Strike bass magic swimbait (black diamond)
  12. yeah it sucked but it could have been worse. i try to take the good out of everything and at least now it shouldn't happen again. plus the fact someone towed us in and we ended up getting to weigh in was luck. not many people pleasure fishing in winter. but yeah this time of year you can catch some fish. plus alot of times they stack up and if you find a few you can really lay them out in one place. all those fish came off the same side of a walkway going out to the marina.
  13. fished a bass tournament on saturady ( jan. 3rd ). me and my partner fished on hiwassee lake. won a tournament in the same trail 2 months earlier on the lake so we were feeling good about the day. warm morning for this time of year it was about 42 degrees at take off and we ran 3.8 miles towards the dam. fished the dam but no fish then made a run to a marina that sits in about 60 to 80 feet of water. the water temp was around 46 so the fish were deep. pulled in the marina watched for bait then decided to pull around and fish the shallowest part of it. caught 2 keepers and 3 non-keepers in about 35 feet on a shakey head worm. decided to run back to another dock that we catch alot of fish on and then without warning the starter solenoid went out. couldn't get it to jump off and ended up leaving the fish and towed in. the rules won't let you tow in another boat until after the tournament we didn't want to get disqualified so we had a older man tow us in and we fisehd the one little cove for 4 hours until weigh-in with no bites at all. only about 25 feet deep there and no cover at all left in the water with the draw down. finished 15th out of 28 boats with 4.62 pounds. bad day for money but it kept us in the top 4 in the standings. hope to just have another starter put on the boat by the end of the month. hope to never experience that again and hope no one else had to go threw it either. good luck to everyone else.
  14. I throw all my jerkbaits on baitcasting tackle. i have three spinning combos and they are for shakeyheads, drop shots and weightless flukes. everything else is on a baitcaster.
  15. awsome spots. i just set my personal best at 4.87 two weeks ago in a tournament. i had snaged a carp earlier that day on a shad rap and when i set the hook i ownestly thought it was another carp the way it didn't come up. but it ended up being a huge spot. it's all we get to fish for anymore around here. it's crazy how in the last 5 years how many and how big the spots have got here in western north carolina and north georgia. almost every tournament is won on a good sack of spots. sometimes i real kicker largemouth will show up but 9 times out of 10 it will be 5 real good 3-4 pound spots that win it. hope i can find a few sunday on chatuge.
  16. Fished a tournament on nottley on the 6th. placed 10th out of 48 boats. only thing was me and my partner only weighed 3.32 pounds with 2 keepers. 11.62 won the tournament. we caught 9 fish total and only 2 kept. the temp stayed in the 30's i think the highest it read was 38. when we took off it was only 19. ice was freezing the guides till about noon almost. it was just plain cold. water temp was around 45. some fish were shallow on deep docks around 15 to 20 feet. but most fish were in 50 feet plus. caught all our fish on drop shots. hope it warms up some for the tournament over on hiwasse on the 3rd. only thing about that lake is have a few more sweet spots on it. nottley for me is just hope and pray kind of lake. dont have any spots on it that hold fish no matter what. but i'd radther freeze and fish then not fish at all. good luck to anyone else who battles the cold this year and remember fish have to eat no matter how cold it gets.
  17. Looking hard at the Yo-Zuri H20 Fluorocarbon line. Anyone use this and can give me a little feedback on it. I have a tackle store close by that has it missed price for $5.99.
  18. The shimano sustain fe's are sweet reels. have a 1000 model paired on a kistler magneisum that i fish shakey heads and weightless flukes on. also the new symetre's are nice.
  19. I live in franklin nc which is west of asheville and just 15 miles from the georgia line and about 35 to south carolina. I fish alot of local tournament trails. 3 to be exact and they are all year long. Last week 16 pounds won it over at chatuge we finished 5th with just over 9 pounds. but they thing about all the lakes around here is the spotted bass have took over. I would say every lake is at least 75% spots and spots hit all year long. They might be deep but they are 10 times easier to catch then largemouths in the winter. just like RW said about the smallies. the spots are now just heating up really. yeah you might have to spend half the day finding them but once you find the bait and the fish getting them to bite is not that hard really. just use a drop shot, shakey-head worm, jig or a spoon. also deep cranks and slow rolled spinnerbaits work. I have tourney this saturday and sunday on nottley. I'll let everyone know how they are bitting.
  20. The Kistler Magneisum TS7'8" teloscopic fillping stick is a sweet stick. i don't personally own that rod. i own two 6'8" heavy cover fish snatchers that flip with. but my fishing partner does and i have used it a few times. plus if you can still find the 08 models they can be had for around 100 bucks. check simmons sporting goods on ebay. he is a good guy to buy from and i'm not the only one that will say that on here.
  21. my favorite rod is my kistler magnesium ts 6'6" M action spinning rod. my go to lure is the shakey head and it's an awsome rod for that. but also throw jerkbaits and flukes on it alot. awsome rod and u can find them on ebay for about 120 bucks with shipping. the new argon's are pretty sweet as well just don't have a spinning rod yet.
  22. I only fish with Terminators and Buckeye Lure spinnerbaits, they make a blue back herring pattern that kills them around here. Own about 8 of those in that pattern and alot of Terminators with extra quick skirts.
  23. I personally perfer the curado d series over the newer curado series
  24. Confidence is at least 95% of tournament fishing the other 5% is luck. Me and my partner fished a tournament last weekend. finished 5th but after we pre-fishing the week before and only catching 3 bass with one small keeper 5th was like a win to us. but in practice we found one dock in about 25 feet of water with a hump that came up to about 15 feet on one side. It was so foggy at take off we got lost ( long story lol ) but we finally found that dock and fished it and had one small bite. we only had one keeper in the boat at the time. fished 3 hours and caught 3 more keepers here and there. then pulled back on the dock around noon and it was awsome. ended up catching 9 bass 8 keepers off the one side of the dock. also used another dock that was in about 50 feet of water to catch a bunch more. but we were the only ones not running and gunning beating the points. 5th might not sound great but it was less then a pound to 2nd place and first place got lucky and caught a 6 pounder to beat everyone by 4 pounds. but the point was i went from no confidence to having faith in one dock it paid off and now i can't wait till we fish that lake again in january. the fish will still be on it.
  25. I would have to say my shimano sustain 1000FE. The reel is awsome. i like it better then my shimano stella fb. i think the newer reels with the propulsion-line management system are amazing.
