  1. @TOXIC 🙂Thank you for sharing. I know you fish many places from your posts and assumed you fish specific baits/colors depending on locations. Knowing you are pretty close to myself and seeing those 955's they caught me(and hopefully some bass in the future) looking like a potential great color for some places I like to throw senko's. Baitmonkey will be pleased👍
  2. @TOXIC, the Baitmonkey is whispering to me to find out what color that is in the three rows of consecutive darker senko's you have in the first picture, if you don't mind sharing. Is it a 955 or 956 perhaps?🤑🤓
  3. This^^^, have had much success using these.
  4. Dang it, fat fingered the post above trying to get my ducks in a row. I fish finesse presentations on my local small creeks with light wire hooks a majority of the time. I use a 6'6" Med Fast rod and a do very well hooking up and landing. I don't think that you need a longer rod but that would be more of a personal choice/dictated by the waters you are using it on. I do believe as others said that a possible source of your issue may lie in your moderate action rod. Don't underestimate the importance of sharp hooks, check your hooks often and carry a small sharpening file to touch them up when needed.
  5. I bought a shallow spool last year to replace the stock spool on my Tatula LT2500, it is paired up to my dedicated small creek wading rod. I'm not usually bombing casts on this setup on these smaller creeks so I don't need a massive spool of line, but that was mostly just myself trying to justify buying a trick spool, whatever you gotta do ?
  6. Funny, I just recently purchased a main drive gear and the nut for my 6500C3 that I boofed up trying to swap a power handle on it. I looked at ereplacement parts but they no longer had the nut available as it was discontinued for some reason. I ended up going through https://www.fishingreelparts.com/, a authorized dealer on the ABU site, they had both parts, good price and fast shipping, would not hesitate to order again through them if I were to need more parts. Ordered 6/23 and received it 6/26, I live in Virginia.
  7. ^This. 99% positive that I watched a video with Gary Yamamoto saying that he prefers the 3/0 on spinning gear. If the man himself prefers it then I figure it's gotta be good and it has been in my experience so far.
  8. baits.com, manufacturer site.
  9. Awesome brother, thanks!
  10. Where was this deal? TackleWarehouse? Email only special customer sale? I like these and have never seen them that low.
  11. I've never paid attention to when I start wading each spring, I go when I can't take it anymore and need to get after some smallies. Just a two days ago was that time.......a bit cold at first this early but you usually get used to it. Makes a difference too if you have some nice spots to go where the water doesn't reach certain body parts ?
  12. ^ This without a doubt but for the accidental injuries and kills, sometimes, rarely, but sometimes I will keep cats and stocked trout to put on a plate. Another that lands right next to this is litter at darn near every fishing spot you go to anymore....I don't understand that mentality. I try keeping a plastic grocery bag in my tackle backpack when bank fishing or wading so I can pick up some of what others leave behind. These people have room to take it with them wherever they are going they oughta have room to take it with them when they leave, hell it is even lighter for them on the way out! Frustrating.
  13. I've had good luck with the Owner Flashy Swimmer's, the twistlock centering pin they have on there keeps the baits from tearing up as fast in my use anyhow.
  14. I too have had issues with this until recently. I followed A-jay's recommendation and purchased one of the DMT fine stone sharpeners, https://www.dmtonlinestore.com/Diamond-Angler-Mini-Sharp-Sharpener-P38.aspx, this model specifically in the fine grit. This stone also has the groove but I seem to get better results running the hook on the flat, a few strokes on the right side of the hook, on the middle and the left side(done with the point facing away from you and pulling the point towards you. In my limited experience I think I had been using too much pressure while sharpening, I noticed once I lightened up I can get a very nice sticky point with just a few passes. Hope this helps.
  15. WIGuide, thanks. I understand that if you get a cranking specific rod it fits a narrow use spectrum, i'm good with that, I have different setups for the other techniques I enjoy, this was just the area that I was "compromising" in. I have been using a 7' MH/F for any chatterbaits I use so I have something for them. I know it isn't necessary but like I mentioned before I have been thinking about getting one for a while, it should put the odds a little more in my favor, save time not changing out lures on my other setups, should be able to sling it further(couple places I bank fish that have some good looking targets I just can't quite get the lures to currently), that's enough reasons for me. I'm gonna pull the trigger on the finesse glass cranker 7'2"MM. Baitmonkey may have caught another fisherman but that fisherman plans on using that stick to catch more fish. Thanks everyone for the input. ?
  16. Good to know. In my head and trying to digest all the information that's out there I was convinced that it would be a good idea to have one. I don't mind spending the money on my fishing gear if I think it will give me an advantage or if I think I will enjoy it more. It's all fun. In the end I just want to learn and become a better fisherman.
  17. Alright, thanks everyone for the input. I guess i'm attempting to go overkill for the smaller cranks that i've been using. I just read another good thread about the same thing pretty much and it seems that a cranking rod is more beneficial for baits that run a little deeper? I have been getting by using what I had but was curious if a dedicated crank rod would benefit me in any way. I guess any ol rod with a moderate type action would be decent or I just continue with what I have.
  18. So i'm looking for a little advice after doing some research on here, learned a lot but still need a little nudge one way or another from somebody with more experience. I started throwing crankbaits last year, had my best season for bigger bass and it was a ton of fun, even got my 11 year old his biggest bass with one. I was doing this on a graphite 7'MF rod and want to get a more crank specific rod cause most advice leans towards glass or composite and if it is going to help me land more fish i'm usually for it. I have been throwing mainly SPRO Little John 50's/MD 50's, Fat Papa SB 55's and Rapala BX Brat's. Narrowed it down to the St Croix Legend Tournament Bass Finesse Glass Cranker, Finesse Carbon Cranker and the Carbon Cranker. I think that any of these would likely fit the lures i'm throwing but I am just not sure really which would be more ideal. Leaning towards the Finesse glass but would like to hear opinions from those more knowledgeable. Last thing, would this rod also be suited to throwing small paddletails(fat impact 3.3's/3.8's) and smaller whopper ploppers? What other types of lures can I expect to use on it? Read some guys mentioning them useful for chatterbaits but I'm thinking these models would be underpowered? Thanks guys.
  19. Welcome fellow Virginian!?
  20. McCoy's has done well for me the past 2 years. Mean green (12lb casting) or clear blue fluorescent (6lb spinning). Seems strong, had a few I thought would break me off for sure after running for cover in a laydown or ledges and boulders. As another user has mentioned it has good knot strength, little memory and casts well.
  21. I have one however it is my first baitcaster and I have not had much time to fish it. I did manage to catch 3 decent (to me) largemouth this fall in a span of about 30 minutes throwing a 1/2oz jackhammer and those are all i've caught on it so far. I've thrown whopper plopper 75's and the jackhammer on it. Like I said not much water time yet but I am happy with it. Reels smooth, drag is smooth, adjusting it is easy, feels great in my hand, light, looks good to me. Not very helpful but thought i'd respond.
