What do you do with the tag end after retying?

I was watching some youtube videos with Roland Martin and I noticed he cut the line and then spit that little piece of tag out on the ground. Now, I'm not admonishing Mr Martin, or others for this, as I've done it myself. But I do try now not to leave those tag ends when I'm out, even if they are small. I've found that if I carry a small plastic bag (that bobbers for my boy came in) in my pocket, it takes minuscule time to put that piece in the open top of the bag, thus not leaving that little bit there.

What does everyone else do with their tag pieces?

Start at 5:40 to see the tag end example.

He does pocket a longer piece at around 6:20 btw, which I'm glad to see.

I hear you, I see a lot of trash left by other anglers on the bank, night crawler containers, empty bottles and cans.  I’ve almost tripped and broken fell several times because I got my feet tangled in fishing line people have left behind on the bank.  I always was it up and stick it in my pocket or tackle bag.

I put my small trash In my pocket .

I stash all my tag ends and then toss them in the trash when I get off the lake. Most people just let it fall onto the deck of their boat/on the ground tho unfortunately.

I think we can all agree that the items you mentioned left behind are unacceptable. The OP is specifically referring to the tag end of the line you cut off after re-tying.

My tag ends are usually not very long, an inch or two usually. If I am re-tying at home in the garage, I throw them out. While fishing I am not as good about it because it usually falls somewhere on the floor of the boat or blows away in the wind.

You talking about the 1/4 inch of line??

Come on man…

Dunno how you get your knot snug with 1/4" to pull on. I generally have about 2" left after snugging up.

I try to take any trash I make with me. I am not saying a big gust of wind hasn’t blown something out if my boat. Of course I have dropped small items that I am not going to search for.  If I snag on someone’s line in the water I try my best to  get all that line out of the water. Nothing gets my goat more then people who leave fishing trash all over the place.

I tie a palomar knot for just about everything, which often times leaves a considerable tag end.

I throw my tag end in the trash can of my boat if i'm fishing from that or under the seat to be disposed of later if I'm in my kayak.

I’m not good with knots and end up with a long tag, it goes in garbage or my pocket. I’m telling ya, I hate using a palmor knot….. I’ll have  to re-spool after  a few re-ties, I end up with a huge tag.

I very rarely finish a knot with a tag end long enough to worry about trimming. Y'all use weird knots.

I usually tie my lure with a Uni knot and I normally dont need to trim any excess.

I generally use a trilene knot.

I just toss them ... i figure with how much of other people's line i take out of the lake, 10-16" dropped for 100ft taken out is a fair trade.

A classic that still holds up today, even with fluoro (people used to say it's no good for it). I use Palomar for braid and Trilene for everything else, not counting connection knots, obviously.

Trilene knot is so easy to tie. The tag end ends up at the bottom on the knot instead of the top, and you can manipulate it easily so you end up with a really short tag end, hence not wasting a lot of line.

I love the trilene knot. I still maybe have a quarter inch of tag when I'm done.

Sorry Mother Nature, the tag end I’m snipping off hits the ground every time.

Use it as floss while I fish.

Get in trouble when they come out of my pocket and are found in the washer or drier.

Drop it the center of the boat where all discarded plastics go until I clean up after pulling out the boat.

It's not just the tag ends of knots, I'm constantly retying and removing 6"+ based on catches and the cover I'm fishing.

my right pocket on my PFD is like a superfund site.  i left and apple core in their for a week.  it was nasty.  i hosed it out, but the damage is done.

i stuff everything and all trash in there.  plastic baits, wrappers, line..dump it when i get home.

I chew trebles, shoot elaztech, smoke plastisol, huff lead, and snort tag ends like a man.

I buy disposable Styrofoam cups to put them in and throw those on the ground.  I gotta at least try to fit in with the locals. ?

Is this another one of those "we killed all the turtles with straws" things?
