  1. Thanks for sharing. I can remember those days. The Mann's jelly worm (black) was the go-to color. Later I discovered the red shad color, and the black with chartreuse twister tail. We also used the 2 piece rapalas, rebels, in gold/black and silver/blue. Now I have 2 suitcase sized tackle boxes...I cannot even remember all the stuff I have..
  2. The RV park in Moorehaven usually has folks fishing from the docks.I don't know if they allow non campers to fish there though. The rim canal in that spot connects to the monkey box ditch. There was a lot of pan fish and speckled perch being caught the last time I passed by there.I am sure there are some decent bass there as well
  3. You see them ignoring boats that are barely afloat, over crowded with 2" of free board all the time. They probably needed a few tickets to meet their quota. My boat looks like hell, but I keep a tool box with all the safety stuff. I get stopped now and then, the last time was the first qualifier for the KOTG. I got a warning for not having a throw-able seat cushion. I left it in my garage. Now it is stuffed in a compartment.
  4. I remember those days. In the c14 thread I posted a story about the c14 from those days. I grew up in coral springs in the early 70's and most of the canals were fairly new freshly dug without much vegetation. I had a canal behind my house in the Windings that had lots of adjoining canals and 2 small lakes that were a few years old. They had Lilly pads and some hydrilla, but not too much. We would catch wild shiners behind my house with bread balls, save a few in a bucket, and then hook up the shiners on a stout spinning rod with a bobber. We would sit on the bank in the late afternoons and evenings dragging in some hogs with my friends BS'ing.. The were lots of bass in those canals, with a few double digits.I caught a 10lb bass, and my neighbor caught a 12lb'er out of those skinny canals. When Wiles road was 2 lanes, that canal was absolutely loaded. The canal ran from 441 west to the sawgrass levee flood control. We used to drift down the canal on a homemade john boat we constructed out of plywood (lots of houses under construction in those days)
  5. I remember those days as a teenager in the 70's. We used to launch a canoe from the dirt road that runs along the canal on the coral springs side. Before the sawgrass expressway was built, we would paddle down to the west end of the C14 and fish the spill way. Then haul the canoe over the levee into the east perimeter of sawgrass fish camp. I remember a few droughts and we used to load the canoe with decent(3-6lb)sized bass, huge bluegills, and huge gars as well as bow fin. Nowadays, I have a difficult time launching my Ranger from the c14 public ramps. I have to back up until my truck rear tires are on the slippery stuff. Kind of a hassle. Plus I got stopped my the Margate coast guard for throwing a wake. Got a complete shake down. I guess one of these days I will give the c14 another try, but I would rather fish at Lox.
  6. You shouldn't be so critical of yourself. Your threads are always insightful
  7. Considering the heat, you really tore them up. Congrats.
  8. Just a fantastic video. This video is priceless.
  9. Snakes are fine for pets, but I would never trust them, especially around kids. There was a small child killed by a pet boa just recently down here in Florida. I know you raised that snake from a baby, but there is a chance it might swim off someday. The Florida everglades has gained a few resident huge boas and python pet snakes that have actually tried to eat alligators. Please be careful.
  10. I am surprised someone hasn't mounted one on a air boat hull..
  11. The Miami airport lakes and the adjacent canals are probably your best bet. The john boat is perfect in there. The ramp is usually a hot spot for the jet skiers and they can act like they own the place.
  12. Nice bass. I might give that place a look Sunday.
  13. From the pic it looks like he is fishing from his awesome Ranger What is with the sweat shirt? Was it cool or is that one of those UV shirts.
  14. I don't fish the C14 much since they put up the speed limit. The canal is kind of boring, and the ramps are difficult for my rig. If you do catch some of those fish you are looking at, post up some pics.
  15. Are you talking about the C14 canal? It runs parallel to southgate blvd. Is the park right across the street from the bowling alley next to university drive?
  16. Another option..The E-tec is a good motor too. Lightweight. You will not have to change your controls. I owned a Evinrude 140 for 10 years and that motor started quickly even though it was carbed. If your carbs are clean and set up right, the motor should start with just a couple of key turns. I currently have a carbed Mercury 150. I can pull the boat cover off of her, prime the fuel and she will fire on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. Every motor has its cold start quirks. I took a while to figure out on my Mercury. After holding the enrichener (choke) for 5 seconds, I move the throttle to 1/2 and she fires right up.
  17. Nice bass Bruce.
  18. I have been fishing Lox since the seventies. When the water levels are changing you have to locate the bass because they will be moving around. Look for floodgates that are letting water into the refuge. The bass will head to areas that have a higher oxygen content and for the easy meal. That is what makes Lox so unpredictable. On Monday they are letting the water in up north or west, and then Tuesday they are back pumping the city water from the east. When things are stable in the spring, look for areas that are good spawning grounds. sandy bottom areas that have good cover and deep water near by.
  19. Lox can be very good or very slow. A few of the guys here know the best spots.Good luck trying to get that information. I would suggest going out to Sawgrass, along US 27,or to the canals along alligator alley west of the toll plaza. You will catch fish. Fish at first light. Lox is too shallow right now.
  20. Where is the best place to launch and fish in the lake with the current water levels? I understand that it is low and hazardous.
  21. Did you take any pictures?
  22. Watermelon/red gambler ez's swim baits work great.
  23. A lot of the smaller canals in the city are very low or dry. I would look for the deeper canals south of Royal palm, or north of Wiles Rd. Also, the canal that runs along the sawgrass expressway behind sports plex can be fished. If you can fish a golf course pond, those are usually pretty good.
  24. There is a nice lake and canal system at the west end of Wiles road in Coral springs. No ramp, lug it over the guard rail. There is also a fishy looking small lake behind the Coral Springs hospital. No ramp there either, launch from the west side. Probably use electric only in that one.
  25. Lake Ida is a good spot. Fish the bank edges and boat docks with worms, xrap crank baits and frogs. If you have a depth finder, fish the humps and deep spots in the middle of the lake with 12" worms and rattle traps. I have caught peacock bass(a few years ago)in there with white spinners as well.
