  1. I wrestled with rig set up and settled on a peg board system. An 8’x 4’ peg board with 8” to 12” shelf hangers (Amazon). You can put 2-3 rigs on each row. I built a shelf underneath the peg board that I put plastic storage containers with baits and tackle on. Below the shelf there is still room for other items if more space is needed.
  2. I’ve grown to like this knot for terminal connections, but I have a problem when having to go with more than 6 wraps. I run out of room, the wraps are not close enough. Any tips on how I can get past the 6 wrap obstacle? Or for that matter, do I need more than 6? I know the Palomar option will come up and I do still use it, but the Uni, to me at least, is easier to tie while on the water. Thanks....Joe

I do have some of these also. Will try them and see what happens. From the comments it looks like I’ve just got to experiment and see what works for me. I have caught fish on the Frenzy, so the bathtub experience may be just messing with my mind. Joe
  4. I’ve battled with this many times. I believe this is correct. To have line going on the reel in the same direction that it’s coming off the spool it needs to go on the reel clockwise and come off the spool counterclockwise. This is for spinning reels.

To have them stand up when hitting bottom and stand up after hopping, at least for a bit. I thought this was the standard way they are fished. Am I wrong here? The megastrikes are pricy, wanted to use what I’ve got. I do have a few of the owners, but the are ball heads and not the shaky or stand up heads. We’re you referring to these? What are other options in floating worms? Thanks to you both!
  6. Would like some help here! Getting ready for a club tourney in a couple weeks and decided to test my shaky in the bath tub. It sank to the bottom and laid flat. If I tried to hop it, it would fall and fall over flat. I was testing a 3/16 Frenzy head with both an Original Trick worm and a Robo Fat Worm. Both were 6” and the result was the same. What am I doing wrong here? Hoping for some ideas! Joe
  7. How about spinning drags? I’ve heard you don’t need to, but I do.
  8. I’ve been in the habit of backing off my drag and the cast control on bait casters when putting up my rods after each outing. The drag should be backed off, but is it necessary to back off the cast control too? Joe
  9. Thanks everyone for your advice and information! I’ve taken it all into consideration and ran it by an acquaintance. I’ll be giving the Shimano Nasci a try when I get my next reel. Joe
  10. Okay, I do plan on using braid. By metal do you mean the spool or gearing? The choices so far in the price point I would prefer are: Daiwa Fuego LT, Shimano NASCI, Shimano Sahara F1, and Shimano Sedona F1. But the Monkey keeps whispering Shimano Stradic ci4 and Daiwa Tatula LT. From the descriptions all except the Fuego are metal. The Fuego is described as carbon based.
  11. What factors determine the strength of a spinning reel? Is it the size, gear ratio, drag, or IPT? Or is it a combination of them all? I’m looking to gradually upgrade my older reels. Would a 3000 size be a good all around reel? Drop shot, shaky, small paddle tail swimbaits, T-rig plastics, and small jerk baits would be some of the applications. Thanks....Joe
  12. Going to use the old stuff that I have lying around as backing. I figure there would be 80-90 yds of braid over the backing.

Thoughts and prayers to your family Tom!
  14. Would there be a problem using 15-20# mono or flouro as backing for 20-30# braid on a 1000-2500 spinning reel? I’m talking 40-50 yds of backing to maximize my spools of braid. Could this result in damage to the reels due to increased weight? Joe
  15. After posting I did search and saw a couple articles on using washers to correct problem. Unfortunately the reel is old enough that replacement parts are a problem. I did see that washers may be available on a site called Ereplacement.com. Have any of you had experience with this site? In the meantime I’ll respool using the advice provided in the thread. The backing is cheap enough so it’s loss is not a problem. One other question if I may? There were no replacement washers in the Sedona box, but I do have 3-4 from a old Stradic. They are thinner and larger in diameter and not rubber like the Sedona. Would these work? Thanks for your replies.
  16. I have an older Shimano Sedona FB that I was spoiling today and the line built up towards the front of the spool. Luckily it was a cheap line that I was going to use as backing for braid, so no loss there. But I still would like to get the backing down evenly. Is there a way to prevent this? I had the line coming off the spool the same way it was going on the reel and I used my fingers to put pressure as I reeled it on. I had my drag tightened down also. Thanks....Joe

My mistake! Just looked at TW site and the category states only Trick Worm. So I guess it's a crap shoot on what you get. Sorry for the misinformation!

From my understanding The Original trick worm is supposed to float. It says Original on the package, the ones that have Super Salt Plus on the package will sink. I don't know how much the salt would affect the action on a shaky head, maybe someone else will chime in on that that. With that being said, I ordered a few packages from TW under The Original Trick Worm selection and I got some that were Original and some that had salt. Haven't decided whether to send them back. Joe
  19. Whoa Tom! And I thought Reaction Innovations had a racy site?!
  20. I hear ya! One manufacturer's Oxblood is brown, another is red. Thinking Robo and Iovino respectfully. Pumpkin Seed and Motor Oil can be close depending on who makes them. The thought behind my original post, and I didn't make it too clear, was finding a completely brown worm. Most of the ones I've looked at had some other accent color in them. Robo's Peoples Worm and Warmouth are two more examples. Joe
  21. Thank you! Have you used the Bubbling Shaker? The ribbed body kinda looks like the Zoom Dead Ringer. Except that the spaces between the ribs are deeper and filled in on top and bottom and are translucent. Thank you! I have been looking at those worms, the 7 1/2" Original. What's the difference between the Moccasin and Crawdad? They look pretty close in color to me>

Catt, Why the swivel? Purpose? Can’t really tell from the pic. Is the hook through the worm perpendicular or is it through the worm and buried back in?
  23. So far mine is the Roboworm Oxblood Red Flake. What’s yours?
  24. We had a very small pond on our deer club years ago. The owner put several small one pound bass in it. Over the years they decimated the frogs, salamanders, and any small prey associated with it. Needless to say, after a while they had eyes on each other! I walked by one day and saw one swimming by and it had a tail sticking out of it’s mouth, it had eaten on of his pond mates of practically the same size!
