Ball Jig Heads vs Guppy Heads for Swimbaits
Many people prefer using a ball jig head for use with small swimbaits such as the Keitech 3.3 A guy in our club swears by them, but he says they need to have a bait keeper on them like the Gamakatsu. This allows the bait to swim more horizontally in the water column and not nose down. The Dirty Jigs Guppy Head has such a keeper, but the head has a more oval design. Will both these heads perform the same way, or does one have an advantage over the other? Thanks....Joe

Football Jigs-Skirted vs Plain w/trailer
What factors determine throwing one type over the other? Out here in California I’ve mostly seen plain heads with some kind of trailer thrown on deep water structure. I can’t remember ever seeing a skirted one being used this way. Why is that?

Owner Flashy Swimmers
Thanks Dwight! Just got one off and on. It took a while, the first turn is what’s giving me trouble. Getting the hook eye around the first spiral.

Wanted to change mine out to larger pin, but found it difficult to get the original off without bending them. Any tips on how to do this?

Popular bass fishing questions
Hi Glenn, A sartorial question. Where did you get the pants used in this video? Particularly the ones with the zippered legs. Joe

What are you giving up on?
Now that’s what I’m talking about!

What are you giving up on?
Not lure or technique, but line. No more FC as main line. Thinking about going braid on everything. Maybe FC leaders until it’s gone. Tired of the slinky effect.

Attaching Liners To Utility Box Lids
I’ve seen and liked several ideas online where rubber shelf liners have been used. But I’m concerned about using any glue that would leave an adhesive smell in the boxes. Also, is one layer of material enough to keep stuff from migrating between compartments? Thanks....Joe

Arky/Casting Plain Jig Heads
Want to add some plain jig heads to my bag that I could use with replacement skirts and trailers of choice. I believe I want the Arky/Casting style since they are considered an all around jig head for grass, rock, and wood. I looked at a some of them online and came up with a few options. I would like some opinions on which ones would be good for all around use. From Sieberts: Improved Arky, Dredge Dock Rocker, and Extreme Arky. From Boss: Dock Knocker, Reaper Casting Jig head, and Wood Walker. Which one of these should I be considering? Thanks....Joe

Casting Reaction Baits Behind The Boat?
Thank you all for your responses! There were many interesting takes on the situation! However the intent of my original post was not to debate the ethics (for lack of a better word) of the boater/non boater relationship. I believe there is no real answer to that one, too many variables come into play. I fish small club events, not "money" tournaments. And I understand that competitiveness can exist no matter what the level. I was just trying to see if there were alternative methods of fishing when put in a position, as one responder mentioned, where I can touch the bank with my rod tip as the boater was cruising down the bank. I thought that maybe I could match his presentation, say throwing a crank bait or SB behind the boat and retrieving, not trolling, it back to the boat. I have come to approach our club events this way: I never throw beyond the 50 yard line unless I'm told it would be okay. When asked to share the front, I usually decline. I'm not as skilled as most of the boaters and I'm not about to mess up their presentation. If given the opportunity to run the trolling motor, I usually decline this also. Another experience thing. I will take it to hold the boat if the boater needs to retie or adjust their equipment. These are just things that I feel will make for a more comfortable day on the water for all involved. Are there times when I'm just along for the ride, yes. But there are also times when I'm allowed to break the rules I set for myself and made to feel comfortable with doing it. I just want to get out and have fun without starting WW III. Joe

Design for Custom Home Rod Locker
My daughter made a nifty head board for her bed out of old pallets. Turned out pretty nice! Only problem was getting the 1x4 slats off one side, those screw nails are a pain to get out!

Casting Reaction Baits Behind The Boat?
I understand what you're saying, but I would be actually reeling in the bait. Although I've heard of guys dragging a jig, carolina rig, or split shot rig behind a boat and doing well. Don't know if this would be considered trolling. But in the situation I was talking about I wouldn't want to do this because the bait just gets too far behind the boat. I wouldn't think a 1/10 to 1/5 oz Ned head would ever see bottom in the scenario I was referring to. I think this might be my best alternative in this situation, out and forward. The bad side would be that most of our impoundments out here drop off really fast to some really deep water, I'm talking 60+ feet.

Casting Reaction Baits Behind The Boat?
It is what it is sometimes. But would it work? I can see where if the boat's moving at a pretty good clip it would be like dragging a ten pound sack of potatoes, but if the pace was somewhat slow I may have a chance.

Casting Reaction Baits Behind The Boat?
I've been in situations as a club back seat where the boater is cruising close to the bank throwing cranks, SBs, underpins, etc. ahead of the boat. It's too close to the bank for trying to fish a jig or any type of weighted plastic, the bait ends up too far behind the boat. Would there be any chance of success in throwing the same types of baits the boater is, but casting them behind the boat and retrieving them against the grain so to speak? Joe

Y'all Turkey Hunt
Yeah, turkey hunting's a blast. I like it better than deer hunting! It's a rush when that tom is coming in and gobbling his ass off. Of course they don't always do that so you gotta be on your toes! Took this guy a couple years ago. I was calling on a box call and this guy appeared about a hundred yard away and not making a peep! He went out of sight in some trees going up a hill to my right. I quit calling and sat tight because I figured he knew where I was. About five minutes later he blew up at the top of the hill, startled the crap out of me, and started down toward where I was. I had to carefully roll over on my belly and aim for a spot on the hillside hoping he would walk into it and he obliged. I can see why mouth calls are better, they free up your hands. I just can't seem to get the hang of them. If you move to set a box call down as they're coming in the jig is usually up! I've done that many times. They have really good eyesight and they will catch the slightest movement. Luckily the guy I hunt with is really good at using a mouth call and will set up behind me once we're into birds.

Jig Options
Thanks Tom. I fish club tourneys so there's no money involved, except for big fish. My aim is to set up an all around jig box to make space for other stuff. It would hold: Skirted casting/arky skirted jigs in 3/8 & 1/2. Black, brown, and green colors. Skirted flipping jigs in 1/2, black and brown. Plain football heads in 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2, and 3/4. Plain casting/arky heads in 3/8 & 1/2. Shaky heads in 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4. Round heads in 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4. Tube heads in 1/8 & 1/4. Dart heads in 1/8 & 1/4. Ned heads in a couple sizes. An assortment of banded/collared skirts in various colors would be in zip locks. Trailers, mostly grubs and craws, will have their own boxes or zip locks. Sorry for the inventory, just trying to streamline a bit, and hoping something like this would work. Joe You got that right Papa! I'm hoping the above will help with that!

Jig Options
Curious to know how many of you out there would rather buy plain jig heads and add your own skirt on the fly instead of buying pre-made skirted jigs? I'm referring to having a selection of plain jig heads and skirts available, and changing out the skirt quickly as opposed to carrying a bunch of pre-made skirted jigs. I fish as a back seat and would like to trim down the amount of stuff I carry. Joe
