  1. Thank you! Will these fit on most jig heads, say 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz?
  2. Thanks Team9! Can’t wait to fish the stuff!
  3. I just received a spool of the .008 inch SS140 to split on a couple of spinning outfits next year, both are 2500 reels. I figure I’d have to spool each reel 3/4 full of 10# mono backing to accomplish this, is this accurate? I want to get 80 yds of YGK on each reel.
  4. I was looking at the Boss and Dirty Jigs banded replacement skirts for use on plain jig heads instead of buying pre-made jigs. Do any of you have any experience with these brands? I would also like to use them with spinnerbaits and chatter baits. Joe
  5. Thanks Tom!
  6. I've been researching a variety of spoons and have a list started. Almost all are the 3/4 oz. P-Line, Cotton Cordell, and Kastmaster. The Kastmasters are pretty pricy, but come in a larger selection of weights. As my original post indicated this would be my first experience with spoons. Would 3/4 oz. be okay for a wide variety of depths, or should I be looking at getting a few heavier baits? They would be fished on a bait caster. Would the lighter weights on spinning gear work in deeper water? I have a bunch of #2 Sampo ball bearing swivels w/split rings. Would these be okay for adding to the spoons?
  7. I'm beginning to do this very thing now. I can buy a wider selection of 6" and longer worms, then trim them down if I need a shorter bait. It helps to keep the cost down and I'm not trying to stuff my tackle bag with stuff each outing. There are baits like cross tails, sculpins, etc. that I would still buy; but it would simplify things a lot.
  8. Thinking of giving it a shot too. I wish it came in green, confidence thing! The OhDragon does come in a green. Based on your explanation it is more dense, but looks to be very similar.
  9. I see that this is not 100% braid, it’s wrapped with mono. Checked out the OhDragon, similar price, and saw it’s wrapped with flouro. Is this to allow it to sink faster? Does it handle like straight brand? Joe
  10. As a spin off to the OP's question and this concerns FC and copolymer lines. I don't fish as often as many on this site, maybe 1-3 times a month, and have a few of my spinning and cast reels spooled with FC and copolymer. During the time between trips these pick up a bad case of memory, especially the spinning reels. I've even applied line conditioner occasionally during the down time and the night before an outing and it doesn't seem to help. Is this about all I can do short of spooling with braid? Thanks....Joe

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
  12. I’ve searched the net for the different species of shad out here in California in order to get an idea on colors for baits, particularly swimbaits like Keitechs. The more common shad here seem to be Gizzard, Threadfin, and American. After poring over a bunch of pics it appears to me that the color differences between individual fish within a species can be different. For example an American Shad may not have the distinctive blue back and look more like a Gizzard Shad with a brown to black back. Is this accurate and do the bass see the difference between a brown, black, green, or blue back? Joe
  13. I have 4 of them and still use them every outing. I did take a 10 year hiatus from fishing due to work and family, so they are in good shape. As stated, parts are a problem. Currently purchasing reels now and then to eventually replace them. As long as they can be serviced and remain in good working order I will use them. They are good reels, especially considering the cost of good reels today.
  14. Thanks! Lots of info! Should be able to figure out something from it! Appreciate the help!
  15. It would be a boat. Fish back seat in club tourneys for bass. Would a 1/2 oz. be a good place to start?
  16. Thank you! I’ve watched a couple videos since my original post. Would adding a swivel be advantageous?
  17. I don’t have any experience with these baits and would like to try them this fall/ winter. Since I don’t own any, what types and weights would be a good place to start? Would a spinning or casting setup be best for a newbie to spoons? Joe
  18. Did you try them on? I also have a 29 inseam. I just bought a pair of fishing pants at 32. They are a tad bunched up at the ankle, but I’m not stepping all over them.
  19. Of topic for this post but how is the Ned fished most effectively. Is it a vertical presentation exclusively or can it be cast to spots? Was going to use it as an alternative to a D/S. I mostly cast my D/S even though I’ve seen information on it being more of a vertical presentation. Joe
  20. Have both the BPS and TW. Both are good. The TW are a little snugger. I use them mainly for covering reels in the garage between outings.

Oh, I know that. Done it in the past, some are very forthcoming, others not so much. Even as a club we are fishing against each other which is not really a concern for me. Irregardless of the standings, I just want to get out and have fun. I was looking for tactics and baits that work well this time of year. Try them out and see what happens. Joe
  22. Going to be fishing a club tournament as a back seat there next week. It’s been a number of years since I’ve been to that lake. Any ideas on what to throw at this time of year would be appreciated. I usually have a D/S and Shaky rigged on spinning gear. Would the Ned be a better choice? I have the fixin’s for it, but have never fished it. As far as bait casters I haven’t a clue yet. Any ideas on setups for these would be helpful. Thanks....Jo
  23. Obscene is right! Wow! Very nice A-Jay! Almost 30# of SMB in one day.
  24. Anyone out there use this braid? Thinking visibility issues here, both fisherman and fish. I’ve looked at some of the opinions posted here on this topic, but they appear to be directed at green, yellow, and red. How about white? Joe
  25. Check out sales at BPS for rod and reel combos. That’s what I did when I got my first rods and reels. It’s been years since I did it, but you may be able to get a good reel and a decent rod. Then you can branch out from there as you upgrade your setups.
