  1. Are there any iMac users out there that can recommend a good photo resizing program? Free downloads would be preferred, but would spend some money as long as it doesn't break the bank. Joe
  2. I've looked at a bunch of "How To' videos and forum posts on the best ways to apply line conditioner. Has anyone here tried applying it to factory spools a day before spooling up a reel? You would still have to apply to line on reels the night before a trip. But it would be easier than applying every several cranks or running line through a cloth soaked with conditioner when spooling up. The only problem I could think of is some reaction to the plastic on the line spool, but there are plastic parts on a reel and it doesn't seem to affect them. Would it work? Joe
  3. Once you said saddle I understood that from my deer hunting days! I assume a drain looks something like a creek channel or an area between two steep changes in elevation. I’ll look at it again and figure it out. Thank you!
  4. Looking for some help interpreting lake maps. I have a general idea how they work, but that’s about it! You mentioned drains, drain pockets, flats, and benches. I looked at the map referenced above and was able to see the flats, but had trouble with the others. Can you reference me to a site I can look into that helps interpret lake maps? Joe
  5. Sorry, I just noticed that they’re west of Colorado only.
  6. How about hook size in general for cranks, jerks, and top water? I ask because I have several of these baits in cabinets and would like to replace the trebles. The problem is that I don’t know the original hook size. Do I need to buy a wide variety of trebles and hold them up to the original to determine the size of the replacement? Also, are sizes different depending on the brands sold? Thanks....Joe
  7. Try Fish n Maps Co. They’re hard maps available for sale on line.
  8. Check out Western Bass. Go to Northern California. They have links to clubs in the area. Hope this helps!
  9. Don't know the video. But the hook doesn't go through the pin, it goes through the bait. Then you can skin hook it.
  10. I've always put a finger in the loop created with the overhand knot and slowly cinched it down to my finger. I then remove the finger, wet the knot and slowly cinch it down to the hook pulling main and tag end. Wrong?
  11. With this technique can you use a regular round or football head in place of a specialized flick shake head? I ask, because it would allow me to utilize what tackle I have on hand. It appears to me that there is not much difference between the two. Please let me know if I am wrong and what makes a flick shake head more effective. Thanks....Joe
  12. I getcha Glenn. I can see the sense in toning down tackle you have to bring to save space, especially when you fish the back like I do! My concern was getting the hook through that small eye on D/S clip.

Thanks all! I’m gonna give it a shot! I don’t have the Rage Toad, but I do have a few Zoom Horny Toads. Gonna rig the on a 4/0 belly weight hook with a screw lock.

Thank you! I agree about poppers, I was thinking of an alternative to it, something different from what the boater could be using.

Just watched Glenn’s video on toad baits. He mentioned that there should be grass or vegetation. Could you fish these and have success on banks with no vegetation as an alternative to other top water baits?
  16. We fished it Wednesday the 28th. Got on the water late, around 8:30-9:00, it was already pretty toasty! Fished the lower Angle Arm near Glory Hole. It was pretty slow, caught about a dozen fish <2# using wacky rig, football jigs, and shaky. Fish were relating to flooded trees and brush. Had two blow ups on a popper, but no hook ups.
  17. I remember fishing of SoCal piers as a boy for smelt. We used a drop line with several hooks tied directly to the line. We’d just lower it down and jerk it it up and down. You could do it without bait on the hooks, the flash of the hook would attract fish into biting.
  18. Looks kinda neat! Except I’d be spending a whole day trying to get the hook through that tiny d/s weight clip!
  19. Curious about the extent of difference in the action of these two when they are rigged weightless? Either Trig or wacky. Thanks....Joe
  20. Has anyone on this site fished this reservoir recently? Going up there next week, don’t know the lake at all! Looking for ideas on baits and colors. Thanks....Joe
  21. You should put him on your hook, he flat out catches fish! Same thing happened to me at a night tourney, I hooked into it and my rod doubles over. I thought I had my first double digit bass. The boater was just as excited as I was and gets the net. I get it to the boat, but can’t see it. He says, it’s got whiskers and then says, get the hook out in the water, I don’t want that slimy thing in my boat.
  22. I’m going to be trying the VMC spin shot hooks. I know it’ll be one extra knot. The 2 feet above the hook would be for visibility reasons, but if there’s no harm in tying hook to braid I’m willing to try it that way.
  23. So tie the hook to the braid and use mono or flouro between hook and weight?
  24. On a drop shot with braid main line would 2 feet of leader from braid connection to hook be sufficient?
  25. Which Owner would be best, 26 or 33 pound?
