  1. Will these work with any wacky tool. Mine is a BPS model. Thanks...Joe
  2. I’ve always gone with the adage that if these baits come with a split ring tie to it, if no ring tie to the eye. I read Team9Nine’s post on his crank bait experiment and he was using a snap. Do you do this as a split ring replacement or even when no ring is present? What snaps and size would be best? Thanks....Joe
  3. Some interesting takes on this subject! Tom (WRB) always comes up with some bit of info that is both informative and explains how the tools of fishing have evolved! I am a righty and my bait casters are right retrieve, so I cast right and switch hands. With spinning I cast right and retrieve with my left, no switch. It makes sense that I should use a lefty bait caster. Years ago I bought a lefty and tried it out. It was really uncomfortable, so I sold it. The problem was not in the retrieve, but in the hand I worked the bait with, my right and dominate hand! Why would I be able to hold and work a spinning outfit with my right hand but have trouble with bait outfit?
  4. Two more..... We were fishing a night tourney and another boat in the cove we were in was having mechanical problems with the trolling motor. A flashlight goes on silhouetting the boater bent over the motor with the backseat bent over behind him. You hear the boater say, I’ll hold the flashlight and you stick it in. The cove erupted with laughter. There must have been 10 boats in there. I was once fishing with a guy who was extremely meticulous about his boat. He would always ask if you shoes were clean before you got onboard. Anyway, it was a really hot day and I started to apply sunscreen, he gives me a stern look and tells me not to get any on his carpet. A little while later he wants to put some on and pulls out this huge bloated tube of sunscreen. I turn away to make a cast and hear this loud THHPPPTTT. I turn back and the tube had erupted when he opened it! He and his carpet were covered in goo. Boy, there was some moaning and gnashing of teeth! I had to bite my tongue before I said something that would end up with me in the lake
  5. I’ve posted several questions about knot tying and the majority of responses stress wetting the knot before cinching it down. So.....Years ago I was fishing as backseat in a club tourney at Oroville in CA. It was raining so hard that I could barely see the boater in front! He had to break off a snag and asked me to hold the boat while he retired. I turn around and see him putting the knot in his mouth to moisten it and asked him what the *@&! are you doing that for? He almost fell out of the boat laughing!
  6. Looking for opinions on this sunscreen. Years ago I would use this product in the clear formula. It was not greasy, and pretty neutral as far as fragrance, maybe a slight alcohol smell. I would actually apply it pretty heavily before I left my house and then drive to the lake fished that day and would not apply it again when on the water. I would check during and at the end of the day and my skin was as pale then as it was before I applied it. Is this stuff that effective? I've searched articles on sunscreen and found that Bullfrog was not mentioned. Thanks....Joe
  7. Thanks everyone! I have been able to tie the Alberto the best. So I’ll go with that for now. Trimming the leader with fingernail clippers has helped. I also have practiced the Shinn knot and that works well too. The only question I have regarding this knot is when he says “you put the line through here”. Does it finish like the Alberto?
  8. Thanks for the responses! As stated, the FG guys showed up! So I tried it a couple times today but couldn’t keep the braid taught enough. The overhands to seal the knot were not cinching down to the end of the knot. Any ideas on how I can improve these?
  9. Does the Shinn knot end the same as Alberto with braid coming out the loop in the same direction? Are 10 wraps enough for bait casting?
  10. It’s an old bait casting rod, G Loomis MBR 784. The Alberto was tied with 7 wraps up and 7 back. I even put a dab of super glue on the knot ends.
  11. I’ve be practicing the Alberto knot every day. I got so I could tie it decently and it had a pretty low profile. So I tie a leader of 12# Yozuri Hybrid to 30# PP and went out to practice casting. The knot was clanging the rod guides so much that at first I thought it was my reel making the noise. It was also sticking in the guides causing backlash. The knot was placed between my reel and the first guide when the bait was held at reel level. So I shortened the leader to about four feet. The knot then stuck at the last guide when I tried to let out some line to practice pitching. What the hell am I doing wrong! I’m so mad I could smoke a pickle!

That's what I thought. Why put another name to a technique that has been around for years? As an example: a Trig is a trig whether you have a weight or not. A worm rigged wacky on a ball/football head opposed to a wacky rigged worm with the weight (nail) in the head?

Looking from some clarity here. It looks to me that a Neko Rig is simply a Wacky Rig with some type of weight in the end of the plastic of choice. If so, wouldn't it just be a weighted Wacky?
  14. Thank you Glenn! I really enjoy your videos! I tried your backhand roll cast. Not too successful. I’m right handed. Do I keep my left hand at the base of the rod? Do I release at the bottom of the cast? Thanks....Joe
  15. Can the same be said with a improved clinch knot and braid?
  16. No, not with other lines, the straight palomar was fine. It's that I have never used braid before and in the past I would not try to get into heavy cover. That's something I would like to try in the future and thought I would need a heavier palomar knot. But Mr. Francho's point is well taken!
  17. It ain't easy! The Salt Strong guy has another one with the run of the mill palomar for braid! Run of the mill for me.

  19. I've seen videos on tying this knot two different ways. One way has the looped line going through the hook eye once, the other twice. Both versions have two overhand knots over tag and main lines prior to inserting hook through the loop and cinching down. Logic tells me that twice through hook eye would be stronger, but is it that much stronger? Would you use twice for lighter lines and once for heavier? Thanks....Joe
  20. Thanks Tom. I'll give it a shot.
  21. The bait has to be rigged correctly the first time if you didn't want to ruin the bait. I assume this holds true for other heads as well. Since I can be rigging challenged at times the glue thing seems to be an answer to my mistakes. What glue can you use, Super Glue?
  22. I would like to try this, but have a couple of questions on how it should be done. I tried the powder paint thing years ago, but wasn't to successful at doing it. Does it work for all kinds of metals? Lead, steel, or tungsten. How do you prep the surface if they've been in storage for a while. Can you clean them with something like rubbing alcohol? Do you apply a clear coat over the color of preference? Thanks....Joe
  23. https://m.bassmaster.com/node/39512 Old article, but this is the one I was referencing.
  24. Thank you! Another thought....can you switch out skirt colors irrespective of the head color? Say change a black and red skirt to white on a bait that has a black head. Do bass hone in on the skirt only, or does the head factor in as well?
