  1. I guide on the Susquehanna full time from April to December. We get high numbers of fish, but you got to know where to find the big ones, and you'll need to float 10 to 15 miles or have a jet boat to get there. Very limited access. L.D.
  2. I take them off. If I don't have new ones around I'll put them in the tumbler for a hour. This is the tumbler that I clean and polish my empty ammo cases with. Makes them bright and shiney. L.D.
  3. I'm no pro, and have never done a tournament, but I produce fish for my clients daily with artificials only. I believe I'd give them a good run for the money. L.D.
  4. I fish them in the river with a lead head jig. They do very well. L.D.
  5. I switched all my jig hooks over to red for this year. The river I fish in is most always stained. So far my count is up over last year at this time, however there are many other factors to consider. Let's say they don't hurt anything, they might help, and I like the way they don'y rust in my box after being exposed day after day to the weather. I bought 3000 of them so I will use them up. L.D.
  6. Leave them alone
  7. Like most of the above, I use my fishfinder for depth and structure. Now if things slow down I'll get out the underwater camera. It will show you the fish just about as clear as watching your TV set at home. Cheating, well maybe a little. People pay me good money to put them on fish and I'll do what,s needed to make them succesful, but the camera does make me feel like it's too easy.. As far as live bait, I don't need it. Part of the game for me is to catch all my fish on artificials. It takes more skill to play the game with lures.
  8. After 15 years, I think I finally wore out the last set of Gortex I had. I bought a set of Cabellas Gortex Guidewear and so far have been pleased with them. I was out in an all day rain last week and stayed warm and dry.
  9. I was on about everyday in the winter, saved me from going nuts. On a couple times a week now that charter season is here. We are going through a flood now so I have time to log on.
  10. I personally don't eat the bass , they are worth more to me in the water. But when I have to clean one for whatever reason, all you get is pure fillet, no bones. Walleye is better than any fresh water fish to eat in my opinion. Perch is second. L.D.
  11. I was going to go out today and fish, and I had a charter this weekend, but we got 2" of rain and the river is up 11 feet over normal hight. We went from ice to flood. It's driving me nuts!
  12. Didn't say where you were fishing, but go to the rocks and use a tube jig
  13. Personally, when I fish muddy situations here on the river, I do a couple of things. You got to help them find the bait so they can strike at it. I will up size my baits. Normally I use a 3" tube, go up to a 3 1/2" to 4" and use black, or a dark color. Next I would slow roll a spinner bait with a pair of colorado blades on it in black or white. Normally I don't use scent, but it can't hurt in muddy water. Last use a big crank bait with BB's in it, again with contrast colors
  14. Skill is knowing how and where to fish
  15. It's smallmouth for me. The river smallies give a great fight. L.D.
  16. Nope, no radio on my boat. Too busy fishing and watching Mother Nature. Besides, If the radio was playing how could my clients hear me talk of the big ones that they should have been here yesterday for.
  17. Meat, cheese, peanuts, fruit, lots of ice water. Cold weather add coffee & chillie in a thermos I got to try that hot dog thing
  18. Fishing up here in Pa. , I ain't never caught no 10 lber. I'd rather have that.
  19. Well if you were fishing in Pa. I'd say you got a white sucker. We get many of them on jigs, especially in the cool water months. but without a photo, we're just guessing
  20. I fish about 180 days a year
  21. Funny you should ask. Being on the river most every day gets you to be thinking about many things and on several occasions I have timed and counted casts. Durring a regular 8 hr day, I cast about 400 to 450 times in the day. The more I'm in the water, the more I catch. This is only when the clients asks me to fish with them or I'm out with a buddy.
  22. I keep a daily fishing log with a ton of info on it.This goes from an extencive paper version on the boat to my computer. I put a modified version on my website newsletter. L.D.
  23. Nope, don't seem to affect them. I catch several fish every day that I can see have been caught before. They will heal. Have fun C&R. L.D.
  24. I find it hard to believe, but who am I to contradict a fish biologist. I believe I'll still fish for those who move back and forth. So I guess my thoughts haven't changed. L.D.
  25. I'd pick a chug bug, husky jerk, and a tube jig
