  1. I am new to the whole fishfinder thing if that is even what everyone calls them! Lol. Just wondering what thoughts are on the pros and cons of each unit. Thinking either the Striker series in Garmin and the Helix series for Hummingbird, want at least the 7" screen. Mainly want it to see depth changes, structure the fish may be holding on, and the fish themselves. I don't need all the fancy stuff. Just wondering if the price difference between the two brands is more about the brand names or if there is something more special about the Hummingbird that makes it so much more? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but like I said I don't understand all the differences between them!
  2. If someone asks me about the fishing during my time at a place, I usually tell them what i was using, what they were hitting and a general idea of what the fish were on. I don't care to steer people in the wrong direction, we are all fisherman and I feel I should help other fisherman out. That is just how I have done it over the years.
  3. Absolutely nothing is working for me this year, I am really thinking about selling it all and just giving up. I cant buy a bite this year! The only big fish I caught this year was caught on a buzzbait, I need a fish soon before I lose all confidence!??
  4. Darn the bad luck! If you get the rod you thought you were paying for congrats! Pass some of that luck onto someone else!
  5. This problem always seems to happen to me in that dreaded thing called winter! Usually once I get to fishing I don't buy a whole lot, but when I am sitting around not being able to fish is when that monkey comes for me! Although I did buy a boat a month ago and the money has been cut off so really don't have a choice! haha A buddy and I look at it this way, there are far worse things you could be spending money on and addicted to.

A friend of mine always used to say after a moment like that the reason people act like they do is because "People are stupid" that goes for all of us. We all have our moments, just don't let them get to you. If you are happy with the way you do things and it isn't hurting anyone then keep doing it. Some people are just miserable and they feel the need to make everyone else miserable, ignore them.
  8. I have just started to use it this year, seems like it lasts longer than most others. Also it big repellent mixed in it and it doesn't have deet! Seems like it keeps the bugs away very well also! So far I am happy with it!
  9. Yes you can get a kayak into most of them. Some are going to be a whole lot more work than others though. You will definitely need a cart to drag the yak behind you. We use float tubes to fish them, they are slow but a whole lot lighter and easier to hike into the remote ponds with. It is a beautiful place for sure, just watch out for the ticks as they are really bad down there. My avatar picture is a picture of one of the ponds down there. I caught my PB out of that pond four years ago, it was almost 7 pounds
  10. I use those for fly tying materials also. I have a three drawer roller cabinet that I store my plastics in at home. Then put what I want to use for a trip in KVD speedbags for easy transport.
  11. My wife fishes once in awhile, but she has been going with me on the boat lately and just keeping me company and soaking up the sun and reading a book. She knows I love to be out fishing and doesn't want me out on the boat by myself just yet since we just purchased it. I am always glad when she wants to go out, I enjoy spending time with her. When she does fish, she usually kicks my butt! She also picks her lures and things by what looks pretty! haha
  12. Fishing for me is like therapy, when I go fishing I forget about everything else that is going on in my life! That peace of mind is worth it alone, but no I enjoy catching them all. It is more about the outdoors and making memories with friends and family when I go fishing! Catching fish of any size is just a plus for me!
  13. Wow now that is a toad crappie!?
  14. My buddy keeps telling me I need Flouro for the cranks, so was wondering what everyone else uses. I hate Flouro!!!
  15. Thanks for all the responses everyone! Never really threw cranks before because I was mostly shore bound. Now that I have a boat, I have a buddy that I have been fishing with since we were kids that keeps telling me I have to throw cranks more often. Just wanted to see what everyone uses for line.
  16. I was wondering what everyone's preferred line for throwing cranks? Mainly squarebills and medium diving?
  17. Like all things fishing, it is all personal preference!
  18. I would contact Tracker themselves and see. I had to contact them the other day about something on my boat and they were very helpful. Worth a shot!
  19. Ohio and New York for me!
  20. Just had to take my trailer to get it weighed so I could register it! Took it to the scrap yard, they charged me $5 to weigh it. And they give you a state certified weigh slip. Also look up Cat scales on the web, they have them all over the country, just pull on them and weigh it!
  21. There is nothing wrong with hunting or fishing ethically! As someone above said there is more to both sports than the harvest. My dad was my fishing and hunting buddy till I lost him when I was 19. I don't remember the animals we harvested or the fish we harvested, I remember the memories of laughing with him, and being with him in the woods enjoying nature, or on the water just learning from him the way he did things!
  22. Still better than being at work for sure!!! haha
  23. I use a razor blade to cut my braid off the shank when using snell knots.
  24. This is the correct thought process as far as I am concerned. We are not conserving the resource for ourselves, it is for future generations that we conserve for. I have caught plenty of bass in my lifetime, but there needs to be fish left for generations to come to enjoy!
