Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Not trying to be argumentative but I own this reel also minus the shallow spool and I’m having a hard time believing it’s going to be capable of casting a 1/16th ounce lure. I’d like to hear your experience when you do use it along with the complete setup if you wouldn’t mind sharing.

Reel Maintenance Mega Thread
All joking aside these pictures especially the second to last one is the reason I’ll never try to do my own maintenance as it gives me a panic attack just seeing the photos. I realize this is more than routine maintenance but I give all you guys and gals credit for having the skills to do this.

Some thoughts on Bass Fishing
I’m not trying to be argumentative but as someone who doesn’t get out as much as I try to I politely disagree. I’ve experienced both scenarios and I’m not saying I’d like to catch them every cast every time but I’d like a few days as such.

Creek Smallmouth Reel
So as far as my recommendations based on what I own I’m going to echo the above comments for a Stradic and I’ll admit I purchased my 1000 based on the positive reviews on this site but especially my friend @bulldog1935 and a few others on here who own both Stradics and higher end Shimano reels and have nothing bad to say about the Stradics. As for Daiwa’s I’d offer up the B&G if you’re comfortable with a heavier reel that’s built for light saltwater applications. I have 2 BPS reels a JM signature series that is a rebadged Fuego I’m told and a Carbonlite which I believe is a rebranded old version Exceler, the reason I like the BPS reels is the spool capacity is more inline with what I want (less line capacity) versus the Daiwa reels they are based on. Lastly if you’re looking to stay under $75.00 and you’re not afraid of a CDM product I have 3 Piscifun Carbon X reels and I absolutely love them all and one of my Piscifun’s has been completely submerged pulled out left to dry and so far zero effects without any kind of maintenance as I’m not mechanically inclined and would ruin my reels if I even tried to service them. PS: If I could only keep 1 of the above it would boil down to the Stradic for it’s absolute smoothness vs the Daiwa B&G for its absolute solid built feeling that feels like it will last forever.

Creek Smallmouth Reel
So I’m going to offer some suggestions but I’m not going to lie as I’m a bit confused in your use of the greater/ less than symbol🤔 I’m assuming you’re looking for a reel priced above $75.00? A price point would have been helpful imho.

@NorthernBasser- 2 Piece Casting Rod Suggestions
@Bazoo All jokes aside it sounds like you know you’re definitely set on the Daiwa Aird 2 piece rod and I’m going to suggest getting it while it’s still around $55.00 and if it were me I’d look into seeing if your local tackle shop will bring it in for you especially if they carry Daiwa rods, it may not get there as fast as you’d like but they’re equipped to handle any shipping damages vs being shipped to you personally along with just helping them out by making a sale unless they’re marking them above the $55.00 price that seems to be the norm. Along with that I’ll still suggest a preferably hard at least top 1/2 carrying case to keep the setup in your vehicle and if you’re not in the mood to wait Amazon is still offering both of my suggestions😉- 2 Piece Casting Rod Suggestions
I’m the “Bait Monkey” and I approve this message 😉- Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
So the water temperature has finally cooled off on my favorite retention ponds causing the weeds to decrease significantly which is a good thing for me. I went out for about 2 hours yesterday late afternoon and after casting for bass unsuccessfully for 1/2 an hour I broke out my Tica Cetus/BPS Bionic Blade ultralight combo and had a ball. I caught a few more than I’ll share but it was a good trifecta for this pond.- Let's see your dogs. (other pets too)
I’m definitely more scared of the ankle biter than the pittie😉 I’ve never met a big dog that changes its mind as to whether we’re cool or not but dang those little guys and gals go from we’re cool to I’m going to kill you in a heartbeat in my experience 😆 Also they are absolutely adorable 😃- Let's see your dogs. @Swamp Girl He has a face that looks like he knows how to have a good time and I imagine while he is that tail is going 100mph😃- Let's see your dogs. (other pets too)
I too would do quite a bit for a treat of cheese-it’s😉 He was an absolute fluffer-doodle as my wife would say 😃 But where’s a picture of him as your current little Hulk🤔- Thanks for the advice!!! My PB! 😃
Congratulations on a beautiful fish 👏🏻- 14 year old new to fishing!
Hello Evan from New Lenox Illinois.- 2 Piece Casting Rod Suggestions
I would also suggest taking a look at Kast King as they offer a few different 2 piece rods some with twin tips. I don’t own any 2 piece rods but I have a Speed Demon rod and I’m quite happy with it. They offer the Zephyr 2 piece and dual tips 1/4-5/8 oz and 1/2-1 oz tip and lastly although I don’t know how much room you’re working with in your car I would suggest a relatively cheap carrying case from Amazon to minimize any damage. This keeps you in your budget as well.- New rods $100-$150
@Slumped and skunked I too tend to stick in that price range and although you didn’t specify spinning or casting I will say WRB-2.0 is offering some really nice deals on spinning rods in that range. I will also add that as stated sales will be starting soon if you can wait which I’m fortunate enough to do along with waiting for the next Bass Pro Shops spring sale when I tend to trade in for an upgrade on rods and reels. Lastly at the $100.00 price point I’d suggest taking a look at 13 fishing’s Oath series which offer a complete lineup in both spinning and casting and crankbait bait specific casting models. Although I don’t own one I’m planning on doing as I said above and waiting for the sales to begin before I make my purchase decisions on them. You’ll find mixed reviews on 13 products but I have a lower priced $80.00 model and feel it’s a really good rod for the price point and although I’m planning on purchasing a spinning rod I’m keeping my lower priced one as well. Hopefully this helps and keep us updated when you do make your decision and ultimately your purchase.- The latest sale thread
I appreciate your advice in thinking I snagged a Shimano Combo but NO it’s a Shakespeare Combo which I will use as trade in value for the Bass Pro Spring Sale😃 I- Medium-Heavy Extra-Fast Info
If you don’t mind can you explain a little more what you’re referencing as I’m a bit confused.- Medium-Heavy Extra-Fast Info
Reviving an old thread as I’m really interested in the new 13 Fishing Oath series of rods in particular a spinning and casting version both in Extra Fast action, so if anyone has any information new or old I’d love to read it. Also @PTasker15 if you did pick up the 13 fishing rod I would love to hear which model you bought and any information you’re willing to share about it.- dobyns fury fr 705cb
Again although I don’t own this particular reel I think you’re going to be happy with your decision. Again please post a picture and after some use let us know what you think of the combination.- dobyns fury fr 705cb
@LokiDawg I’m not saying to react/buy but I do feel I have to share as a fellow fisherman if this is really legit😬- dobyns fury fr 705cb
I too have a Tatula 100HSL that has been on a few different rods and every time I think dang I have to upgrade this reel I just grab that combo as a “one last time” before I upgrade and every time I come home and think nope not doing it, although I’ve done the same with my Tatula CT 100 also so I guess I’m just a sucker for my Tatulas. - Latest Catch Pics Thread
