Springtime At Pomme De Terre
I have fished there in the summer and fall for several years but always took my spring vacation at Table Rock or Stockton. I have booked a site for 2 weeks at the end of April and am in the process of making baits to take along. I am planning mostly plastics and jigs with a few spinnerbaits thrown in for good measure. Now my question: for those of you who fish it early what jig and plastic colors have been the most productive for you?

Looking At Buying A Bass Tracker 175Txw-Help
They are both made close to me. I would take a G3 over a Tracker.

Lubes
In response to your original question. Yes I have used it. I did it on a friends recommendation though at the time I was wondering if Quantum was Spanish for Zebco. I had it on ABEC bearings and bocas. It was great for a few weeks then the reels got harder and harder to throw. I got rid of it and went back to the oil that came with the reels. For clarification my reels were super tuned Shimano Curados with ABEC 3 and 5 bearings and Boca lightining ceramic bearings. I have since sold all the reels and bought new ones that will never have the red stuff put in the.

Lowrance Or Hummingbird
That is for sure what I would do if I had a 10. I could only afford 2 8s.

Which Costas?
I had the glass blue mirror and could not read my gps screen with them on so I took them back and got amber.

Lowrance Or Hummingbird
3mph is plenty fast for good images. I assumed you would be moving very slowly or not at all while fishing. Do you have a trolling motor on it?

Lowrance Or Hummingbird
Jason Gilstrap posted a screen shot of a Low guy in the water. It was amazing. I think it is on the Low facebook site but not sure. I think I saw it on the Texas fishing forum site. --------------------------------- About an lss1 on a yak, I'm not sure it would be beneficial because you might not be moving fast enough or steady enough to get good images.

Braid With Leaders - Pros/cons
I prefer to use braid without a leader. However, I have found that in shallow clear water like we have here in the late fall to spring rains I have more action with a leader. I also like a leader when fishing rocky places. I sometimes use mono and sometimes fluro. I haven't seen much difference but we have done some experiments and the straight braid loses most of the time unless we are fishing deeper than 20'. I use the Alberto's knot to join the two.

Making My Own Jigs
If you don't want them to chip then don't throw them in the rocks. Where I fish a jig's life is about 3 casts so I don't worry about chips.

Home Made Jig Weedguards?
I make my own for 1/8 oz jigs and tube inserts. I use 90# sevelon or surflon. I get it in 30' rolls from Cablea's or Bass Pro. It is the one shown in this pic.

That may be the case where you live but the guys here know more HB than Low.

Lowrance Or Hummingbird
Either brand will do a very good job for you if you take time to research them and get some hands on experience. Go to a place like Cabela's or Bass Pro where they have both brands on display. I latch onto a sales guy and have him walk you through both units in your price range. Then take over the controls and do some button pushing yourself to see which one have the features and ease of operation that you want. If the store is a reasonable distance from you, go more than once. Make sure you are getting what you want before you lay down that much cash.

Trouble With "gluing" In Weedguard
Super Glue Gel is all I ever use. Be sure to use it sparingly.

New 4.1 Software Release For Lowrance Hds Gen1 Units
I just updated my hds 8s. I was amazed at how fast it did it on the units. I also expected to have to change my settings back but with the keys still being quiet, the soft keys still the same and the screens coming up like I left them I guess that info was not redone thank goodness.

24V Battery Question
No it isn't bad for the motor. When I had 12/24 with speed levels I had to use 12V part of the time to get the speed I wanted to be fishing. Now I have 24 only with infinite speed control.

Making Jigs
Like smalljaw stated unless you want to get into some serious money, you can buy premolded jig heads either painted or unpainted and skirt material. Then you can put them together yourself and see how it goes. Check places like Cabelas, Bass Pro, Stamina Inc, Barlows, Jans Net Craft, Lure Craft, and Fishing Skirts for supplies. For example: Barlow's has football heads for around $.60 each and skirt tabs in a kit for around $.30 each. So you could put together jigs for $1.20 per jig. You can make the a whole lot cheaper once you have you lead pot, fluid bed, powder paint, lead, etc. But unless you buy hooks by the 1000 and skirt materials by the 100 you won't have a lot of savings.

Omc Trolling Motors
Maybe because OMC went belly up and no one wanted that part of the industry. The boat companies went several places like Genmar and Bombardier bought out the motors.

That is the way I have always found them to be. That is why I keep doing business with them.

24V Battery Question
Optimally speaking if they are the same size and same age they will work better and longer. I had a battery go bad after 2 years while I was on an extended fishing trip and had to replace it. I opted to get one and see how it worked. It was 2 years later that my original battery started weakening and had to be replaced. So I had about 150 fishing trips with batteries of different ages. The thing to remember is go for as many reserve amps as you can find and have room for.

Tackle Storage
I keep all of my baits in boxes or tackle bags. I bought a plastic closet at Lowes and put the extra stuff in it.

What Is The Best "visible" Line For Spinning Reel?
There are some really bright colored gold tones out there. I use yellow braid but it is a bear in the wind. When in clear water you could add a fluro leader if the color bothers you.
