  1. The what depends on you. I have owned Lowrance and Humminbird units. I have fished with 2d sonar, down scan, side scan and Garmin and Humminbird live. They all have units that with added transducers can do the job. One unit should suffice for a Kayak. I think Lowrance has the best 2d sonar, Humminbird has the best side and down scan while Garmin has the best live. What’s most important to you?
  2. Went back to Table Rock this morning and took my neighbor. It was 31° and the wind was beginning. We fished the same general area as I did on Tuesday. Fishing was somewhat better. We caught 23 spotted bass 5 of which were nice keepers. All were caught on various TRDs rigged Ned. The only bad thing was the 20+ mph wind which chilled me to the bone. Right now I am sitting in front of my wood stove enjoying a beer. Cheers.
  3. Compared to the last trip this was a struggle. Last trip we found spots congregated near the bottom in 25-30’ of water. We only fished 2 places and boated 91. Alas they have moved on and we could never find any concentration. We covered over 10 miles checking various places.
  4. Not much of a report but I did take a friend to Table Rock today. It was 32°, foggy and we had to stay close until about 10:00. We struggled to find fish. We caught 20 and missed or lost several more. The Ned rig and Pee Wee jig were the only baits that produced.
  5. That was the best game I’ve seen all season.
  6. If those Duracells are flooded I would charge them every month. Agm batteries don’t need it that often.
  7. I live about 10 miles from the main BPS store. I used to buy most of my stuff from there. However, the inventory has changed and I can rarely find what I want and they sre often overpriced so I have just about quit going there.
  8. Around here in the rocky highland reservoirs the football jig gets hung up less than other styles. I rarely use any other kind of jig year round.
  9. I use 15# with various leaders.
  10. I always run blades on my top wires.
  11. I agree with Glenn. We’ve been using 3/16 mostly this fall down to 30’.
  12. Naptha is my preference for bearings when I can find it. Otherwise I use acetone.
  13. Midwest covers a large area with diverse bodies of water. It would help to know where you are located. I fish 4 different highland reservoirs in the Midwest in the winter and no 2 of them are the same.
  14. My Lowrance units killed my cranker graveyard dead in a year. When I changed to Humminbirds they did the same thing even with the X2 1150 cca agm so I installed a house battery (100 amp hr) lithium with a stand alone Minn Kota 10 mph charger.
  15. I usually get about 4 years out of a set of trolling motor batteries and the same with the cranker. If it took more than a few hours to charge my cranking battery it would get replaced.
  16. Back at you. I’m watching the turkey in the smoker.
  17. If you hold the jig eye with needle nosed pliers or forceps no paint gets into the hook eye.
  18. If you have a heat gun and powder paint you can do it. It won’t be bulletproof but better than nothing. I do it with Ned heads that have a molded in weedguard.
  19. Yes you can. That was a common problem with the Evinrude and Johnson motors several years ago. Guys just disconnected it, mixed their own and went on. I had a couple of them. Just be sure you are doing the right mixture.
  20. Swim baits, shaky head and 3/16 oz jigs
  21. For me it is a 7’ mf spinning rod with 15# braid and a 12# fluorocarbon leader tied with the fg knot.
  22. White slider grubs work well as do Arigs with swim baits or flukes on them. Small bucktail jigs have produced a lot for me when I used to target them.
