Considering switching out Shimano for lews
I don’t have the reels which you mentioned ( Shimano fan boy) so I can’t speak to them. I use 8# line on many of my setups so I have all of the reels both spinning and bait casters set so that the drag slips a little on the hook set. That way I don’t break off when I swing for the fence.

Have you noticed a lot of these UV fishing gloves have this thick material for “grip” that severely compromises dexterity?
I have been wearing golf rain gloves for 20 years. They are synthetic and thin.

Boat concerns
I reread your post. You mention a little oil on the water. Are you choking the motor when you start it? If so don’t and see if that changes. I don’t know what you mean by air in the line. As for leaving it hooked up in a parking space, mine was often hooked to the truck for two weeks or more when we did a lot of camping.

Natural or Synthetic Skirt for Jigs
I’ve used it all. I used nothing but homemade buck tail jigs for years. I carried them in over 20 color combinations in 3 sizes. I don’t know how many I have caught on them. I fished them all year long. Then I got to using living rubber and got away from bucktail. I used rubber exclusively for several years then tried silicone for the color options. Now I carry all three types and vary which I use. I have grown partial to the Pee Wee jigs made by Jewell. I make some of my own but also buy there skirts for a change of pace. I the water column I’ll take bucktail. On the bottom give me rubber or silicone.

I don’t recognize anything that you have there.

Shore fishing a lake that eats jigs—what am I doing wrong?
Falkus if you would respond I might be able to help you. I throw jigs into tree lay downs and fish them back from limb to limb or completely across the limbs and back.

Shore fishing a lake that eats jigs—what am I doing wrong?
The first thing that I would like to know is about your setup. Then I might be able to offer you some advice. Please tell me what rod, reel, line, and jig type and weight you are using.

Boat concerns
I know where you are. I am there also. Last fall my 2016 Z20 fiberglass fenders developed holes. I took it in to order new fenders. The main tech said if you order them I won’t install them. The problem is the springs have gotten weak and let the tires rub the fenders on every bump in the road. So we ordered new (stronger than original) springs along with new fenders. This was going to be a major cash outlay so I had them go ahead and do the bearings and hubs. I still look everything over before leaving home, before launching, after loading and when I get home. It’s been a year and I still am not comfortable. Even though we both have yearly maintenance I guess we are nervous Nellies.

bunk boards
Over time the wood might scratch the gel coat. If it were mine I’d either recarpet that skid or have whoever did the work replace it.

Time for a new set of Boat Trailer tires ~
If you have one in your area check out Discount Tires. You can get almost any brand from them. I have bought tires for my boat trailer, utility trailer and truck from them. When I go back they check the air, rotate and balance the tires for no additional charge.

Jigs With Real Buck (deer) Tails
I don’t know how anyone would be able to tell. I’ve been to deer processing plants and seen tubs full of deer tails which were going to be sent off to some company.

2004 Merc XR6 repair manual
You might start at your local library and see what they have. A friend of mine couldn’t find one anywhere so he checked and the library had one. He was able to copy pages from it.

What are we throwing?
I hadn’t been for a month but was able to go yesterday. I tried wake baits with no bites, spinner baits with 2 bass, shaky with 3 bass then Ned. My neighbor and I stayed with the Ned and caught 70 more (largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass and mean mouth).

3 quarters
Of a hundred. We haven’t been able to get out for a month which has been killing me. My neighbor and I went down to Stockton lake this morning. They had rain which we were unaware. Our launch area was muddy. I headed out to open water and got away from the mud. I pulled into an area with a series of coves and started throwing a spinnerbait. In about a quarter of a mile I had caught 2 and my neighbor had none. I couldn’t get bit on a rocky point so I tossed a Ned out and had a nice smallmouth on the first cast. My neighbor did the same and the game was on. I tried shaky for a while and caught 3 but they weren’t on it like the Ned. We fished in and out of the coves in this area for 6 hours. We had doubles 4 or 5 times. We didn’t bother with pics or measurements. We just caught and released. In the mix we had smallmouth, largemouth, spotted bass and 3 meanmouth. We caught 75 fish in the six hours. They were still biting when I called the dogs and put out the fire. Most of the fish are close to spawning but not there yet. The water is around 62°. We normally cover 1/2 mile per hour so I think we fished close to 3 miles today which is only half of that area. What a day to remember.

Have you ever had issues with Shimano's DC braking system?
Nope. None what so ever. Just an occasional cleaning by cadman the rest of the time fish.

What knot do you tie when you can't tie a palomar knot?
I only use 1 knot for everything and that’s the Pitzen.

Which Electronics
You can easily get into the $1000s depending on wants and budget. If you live anywhere close to a retail store that carries them, my advice to you is go there and have someone show you the units and how they work. Plan to be overwhelmed.
-
Which Electronics
They all have good qualities. What do you want your unit to do?

Nitro latch help
A couple of toothpicks in the hole then the screw should do a temporary repair. If you can get to the underneath side a bolt and lock nut mig do the trick.

Ultralite Bass
I have turned into a finesse fisherman. I use 8# fluorocarbon line on most setups for light jigs, Ned rigs and Shaky. I rarely pull out a standard setup.

Will my wiring work on my new trolling motor
Tracker historically does things on the cheap shooting for first boat buyers while MK is playing CYA.
-
How do I cast further with this setup?
You don’t say what type and weights of baits or line size and type you have.
-
Will my wiring work on my new trolling motor
Just make sure that you have a good breaker installed.
