Lipless cranks
I want to try the Red Eye Shads, and I have a couple Original Rattle traps, but lately I've been catching some on a $1.50 Ozark Trail Rattle. I did change out the hooks though. I like a 1/2 oz the best, fun to cast, but never tried a 3/4 yet.

Left Handed Cranking Reel?
I just got a Revo X in the 5.4.1 gear ratio and was pretty impressed with it's casting.

Favorite Jerk bait!?!
I have only used a few cheaper brands, Yo-Zuri, Lunkerhunt and Boyd Duckett, but I really like the action on the Boyd Duckett. The Yo-Zuri looks nice, but not a whole lot of action, and I like the rattles in the Lunkerhunt, but their not the best looking either, but both will catch fish. I have one Rapala Shadow Rap, but haven't used it yet, and I'm sure eventually I'll try some Vision 110's. I also might try to hit up my local Ollies again today and check out the LC lures, but last time I was there I didn't notice any jerkbaits from them, just some crankbaits.

The Fishing Day from Hell
I have some trips start badly with rods getting tangled, lures getting stuck in clothes, getting snagged on the bottom, the weather turns bad, but usually end ups as a decent day anyway. However, I will never ever forget two years ago when my wife and I went to take a kayak trip on a new section of river and thought it was about a 9 mile trip. It started out fine as usual, I was catching some decent smallies, but time was moving quickly and the river was very low in that section. We ended up having to get out of the kayaks over and over to drag it through shallow spots, which took a lot of time to do. Next thing we knew it was dark out and we was no where near the end of our trip. It was a full moon out, but with a pretty narrow river and trees lined on both sides and lots of curves, the moon light didn't help and it was pitch dark. The lights we had with us didn't help at all, and the river had big patches of weeds that would only have a small pathway for a kayak to barely fit through, but finding these paths were nearly impossible in the dark. Some paths would look like they went all the way through, only to dead end. We would have to then backtrack in total darkness back out and try to find the opening. In a few places, it didn't seem like there was a path to get through, so we had to get out of the kayaks and drag it through muddy weeds a couple of hundred yards with leeches and snakes everywhere. At about 2 am, 12 hours after we started, we hit one of those patches where we had to drag across the weeds in the dark and we just stopped and debated whether or not we were just going to try to sleep in our kayaks until it got light out. I wanted to, but my wife didn't so we pushed on. We kept paddling forward in the dark, praying that we would get to the end soon, but unfamiliar with this section, we had no clue and that made it worse. In some spots the catfish were just grunting all over the place and I kept hitting some with my kayak, which was a little freaky in the dark. Finally, after 4 am and over 14 hours later we made it to the end and I don't think we've ever been so happy. We get home and my wife has a leech on her foot and the next day I pull out of my kayak to go fishing again and notice several bait fish had jumped in with me while I was paddling and didn't even know it. Although it was pure misery for us when it was happening, it's something we laugh about now and will never forget, so I wouldn't change anything about it.

Best Dobyns?
That's what I love about Dobyns, the owner will answer your questions directly.

I just started river fishing smallies
The river smallies here aren't picky at all, so it just depends on what I want to throw. But usually it's something I can cover a lot of water with while kayaking, which is usually a whopper plopper.

Have they sent you an invoice yet? I tried Tuesday afternoon and got this msg. On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, 04:40:56 PM EDT Kevin, We do not carry the DC 634CB anymore. Would you like a different model? Thanks, --------- But, then I seen they had them at Sportsman Outfitters and said in stock, but also heard that they are just drop-shipping them from Dobyns. So I don't know, let me know if you get one, I would be pretty mad they lied to me.

I tried to order the 634cb and they told me they no longer carry them. Luckily for me I found a guy on FB selling one that's like new for $115 shipped. I wanted it for kayaking small rivers with and for jerkbaits from the bank. I'm hoping it a little stronger than my 704 glass and I can throw the whopper plopper size 90 on it. Not my first Dobyns, but I used it to get my first Sierra, just because I wanted at least one from each series. I ordered 5 in total.

Inexpensive, universal baitcasting rod
All good options above, and the Dobyns Colt 703 & 734 can be had for $48+$25 shipping right now.

Just pulled the trigger on a Dobyns Fury
I think the 733 is a good choice, my first Dobyns was a 703c, they will just make you want more. IMO, the 3 power is more of a versatile rod than the 734 in the Fury series. The FR 734 is faster than the other 734 models and better for jigs rather than reaction baits like the other 734 models.

I agree, they do a great job of packaging. Unfortunately, plenty of pictures of broken Dobyns rods during shipping in the FB group. The biggest problem is the Shipping companies are supposed to remove anything over a certain length from the conveyors and walk it around a certain section, or else they get broken, and the workers don't always do that. I just also saw this post from Tackle Warehouse a few minutes ago, not exactly sure how and who this is going to affect. 3.27.20 ***UPDATE*** FedEx has also suspended their money-back guarantee for all FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight and FedEx Office services effective March 25, 2020, and until further notice. How many bass do you catch in a year? How many bass have you caught in your life?
I numbered my fish last year in my youtube videos and ended up with 515 on camera, but it probably was closer to 550 including the ones not on camera. They weren't all bass, but most of them were and I only left my County a few times. This was my 2nd year of fishing, the previous year was probably at least 250. Most of them came on a 6'0 Ugly Stik GX2 both years. I'm going to keep track this year also, but I won't be numbering each one in my videos, too time consuming. I've just been pulling a picture of each catch from video and numbering them. I'm at 9 so far this year and that's 9 more than last year at this time.

Best Dobyns?
No, I have the 704cb Glass and just bought a 634cb grahpite. I thought the same thing though about the 705cb Glass Fast Action at first, but when I finally caught fish with it, the tip loaded really good and haven't lost a fish on it yet. I have read similar experiences also about how the rod doesn't seem soft enough until a fish is on. I think it's about perfect, because it allows you to load up on the cast better. Now, the 704 glass is a different story, completely different from the 705 Glass, it has a lot slower tip with a lot more noticeable parabolic bend. I'm hoping this 634cb graphite is somewhere in between, so I can use it for jerkbaits from a kayak and bank. I haven't used a DC graphite rod yet, but I hear the 4 power is totally different from the 4 power glass, faster with a little more power.

Latest Catch Pics Thread
My best one of 2020 so far, 18". I didn't bring my scales this time, but I'm guessing it was around 3 lbs judging by other 3 lbers I've caught there. Another catch on the jerkbait with the Fury 703 and he choked it. It's been mostly jerkbaits and lipless catching me fish so far with a couple on the Ned Rig. The water is still around 48 degrees and it was a pretty shallow park pond. 3lbs is a good size around here, I only caught two 4+ lbers. ever and one was from the same pond as this one.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE?
It sounds like there was inconsistent tension be put on the line as you were reeling it from your son holding and some spots got wrapped tight and some loosely. I always put the drag on the way up and spool tension tight and try to keep consistent pressure on the line as it's being reeled in, without holding the line too close to the reel.

Dedicated 1/2 oz Jig rod. Dobyns Xtasy
I have the 755c for 1/2 jigs. You will be amazed at how skinny the blank is, but yet how powerful it is. I've seen Mediums that have thicker blanks. I sold a guy a Champion XP spinning rod a few weeks ago and he picked up my Xtasy 755 and couldn't believe it was a Mag-Heavy. And, the Xtasys flat out look and feel amazing.

Fishing gear prices due to Covid?
I was going to say the same thing. Weekdays almost look like a weekend in the middle of summer at about every place I've been to and it's just going to get busier as the weather gets better. It was raining this evening and there were still plenty of people out fishing. Gary Dobyns said that he placed an order for Kaden rods, but things are getting delayed because of access to a lot of components.

How do Dobyn's compare to St. Croix's?
I've bought 12 Dobyns since October from every series except the Colt. I only own one St.Croix and that's the Panfish Series, so I can't compare them, but I'm sure they make great rods for the same reasons @Finessegenics mentioned about Dobyns, and I love the fact they're made in the USA. The things I love about Dobyns besides that they make great rods that are balanced and look nice, is that you can have conversations directly with the owner and he will give you honest advice, even if that means telling you to buy a cheaper rod, which I've seen him do several times. And, there seems to be more sales on Dobyns rods compared to St.Croix, G.Loomis, Shimano, Megabass, I got 7 of mine for 30% off and 5 for 40% off, at those prices a Sierra cost almost as much as a Bass X, and that's not even a competition. You get lifetime warranties and don't even need a receipt. They have a huge selection of models for about every application you can think of. For those that say Dobyns aren't that sensitive, have you tried an Xtasy or Extreme? Anything below that I use for reaction baits or frogging and they have perfect actions and plenty of options for that. I have rods that are lighter on the scales, but in the hand the Dobyns feel a lot better and lighter due to the balance. Having said that, I still want a NRX 873crr, Conquest 843c, Megabass One Ten Special, and the new St.Croix Xtreme. I didn't really plan to have a full arsenal of Dobyns Rods, but that's how it ended up due to the sales. My first one was between a Fury and a Bass X and had I choose the Bass X instead, I may have a arsenal full of St.Croix instead. In the end, I think it just comes down to personal preference and is all highly subjective.

UL for Panfish/Crappie
I have the St.Croix Panfish Series 6'9 UL, I've fished a few times this week with it, including a few hours ago. I have yet to catch anything on it, so I can't say too much on it. I have it paired with a Daiwa Revros LT 2000 and it balances perfect and matches up with it color wise pretty good also. The rod weighs 2.7 oz. and is the most whippy rod that I've ever touched by far. I think even the smallest of bluegill, crappie, or trout is going to feel like a monster on it. I got it to throw 1/16 oz jigheads with a 1" gulp minnow and it does a pretty decent job at casting it. I was throwing a small crappie crankbait around a few hours ago and could feel what the lure was doing the whole time. I do think it could be a little faster and that would make it cast even better, and if I did it all over again, I would most likely get the 7'0 Light version. But until I actually catch a fish with it, I don't really know. I do know I wouldn't want to use it for bass, and scared of the thought of accidentally hooking up on a catfish, which happens a lot when I vertical jig for panfish. Dobyns makes a 6'0 Panfish one piece rod for the Colt Series that just came out last August. I've heard good things about it and it's normally $80, but can be had for $48 right now if you call them before April 6th or they sell out.

Best Dobyns?
The 733 will cast those weights a little better, but the 734c should be able to handle them decently though. Since you already have the MH rated up to 3/4, I would probably just get the 734c, it can throw just about any type of bait. They are 40% off right now, if you didn't already know. I actually ordered the Champion 734 yesterday, along with 4 others, bring my total to 12 Dobyns rods, double the amount since I last replied to you.

Dobyns Rods / All around??
If your looking into getting a Fury 734c, you might as well just get the Colt 734c, it's better than the Fury 734 for everything but Jigs, and this came straight from Gary Dobyns. Otherwise, I would say the Champion 734 is the most versatile rod for Dobyns. And, if your set on a Fury, I think the 703c is more versatile than the 734c, unless you want to throw over 1/2 oz.

I was going to post this earlier, but I wanted to wait until I ordered what I wanted first. ? And, he didn't really want to advertise it a lot because it undercuts his dealers, but the cats out of the bag now. This is what Gary Dobyns said earlier today. Dobyns Rods DEAL starting today. This will run for 2 weeks only and ending on April 6th. I'm only going to offer this deal to Community Page Members here with our private group!! This virus crap is getting bad. We saw our business "order" traffic dry up to nothing last week. I'm sitting very heavy with inventory as this is our peak season. So I have tons of rods and not the strongest in cash, just as I always do it. But this virus has changed everything. I'm looking to turn some rods quickly. Again, this will last 2 weeks only and hopefully things have settled down a bit by then. All rods are 40% off to Dobyns Community Page Members. I will not go to the general Facebook public and further screw over my dealers. I really hate hurting my dealers but I will admit that I'm a bit scared and need to generate some cash. We will have to charge shipping of $25 per rod order, if you live close to someone, combine orders to save on shipping. Baits and clothing will also be included in this 2 week deal. 903-919-8028
