  1. Oh ok, maybe some States have different laws or something cuz I'm pretty sure I seen a youtube video from 1rod1reel where they came knocking on his door because he took some fish from public water and put in a private pond, but maybe I am just mistaken.
  2. I don't know all the specifics, but I imagine some of them just go and catch bluegill and other baitfish from other places and bring them back to their pond, even though I'm pretty sure it's illegal, but so is transferring the bass to begin with.
  3. LOL@THIS THREAD Yea, there are a few double digits lurking here in private farm ponds for sure and there are a lot of them. Some people catch 5 pounders and take them home to their private ponds and feed the heck out of them for years. The biggest Smallmouth ever caught in Lake Erie was close at 9.5 lbs.
  4. Other good options besides the SLX are the Tatula 100 on sale for $99 right now and a Lew's Tournament MB if you can find a good deal on one or it's replacement a Tournament MP is on sale for $120 at American Fishing Legacy with 10% off if you sign up for their newsletter. The SLX is a good reel, I have the SLX, SLX XT and the SLX DC and so far I'm liking the SLX XT the best due to the SVS Infinity Braking System. I actually have a SLX XT for sale in mint condition for $100 shipped in a 7.2.1 gear ratio right hand with 20# braid spooled on it, because I'm looking to get the 6.3.1 version for cranking. I actually like the my Tournament MB better than my regular SLX though. I have a Tatula 100 coming Monday so I can't speak much on it yet, but I hear good things about them. I'm personally looking into getting a Tatula 150p for deep cranking. As far as rods go, I would personally go with the Fury, but I'm a Dobyns fan. I've had the SLX and Tournament MB on my Fury and both balanced really good with it. The only St.Croix rod I have is a panfish rod, but I've heard that their heavier rods are tip heavy.

  6. I'm still pretty new to the fishing world, but this year I have noticed a few things that I imagine to be pretty routine for anglers every year that I thought were a little funny. The first one is the 20% BF sale at Tackle Warehouse. It's like waiting for xmas day to get here as a little kid. The 2nd one is the day after xmas, when everyone is out at the ponds and lakes trying out their new gear, no matter how cold it is. I live in Ohio, and it seemed like the busiest day of the year at a few places, and lucky for everyone the ice melted just a few days before so we could fish. And lastly, what has been going and is still going during the winter months as a lot of people can't fish, a lot of us are all selling, buying, trading, basically exchanging gear trying to get ready for the season. Especially reels, those seem to exchange hands a lot. I'm just curious what other yearly routines anglers go through or have noticed from other anglers.
  7. I was going to buy one from that deal, but I found one Wednesday from a guy on this forum for $120, never been used along with a upgraded Tatula 100. My first left handed reels, $200 for both.
  8. I went from fishing zebco spincast the few times I fished as a kid and using one the first half of season my first season bass fishing before moving to a baitcaster, so I skipped the spinning reels and right handed reels felt a lot more natural to me. I never had a problem in my short time fishing setting the hook while holding the rod in my left hand, but I have noticed now that I have been using longer rods that I do get a little more arm fatigue. I also think it's going to be easier to learn to reel left handed than it is to cast or pitch left handed, so I purchased a Catalina 7.3.1 and a Tatula 100 7.3.1 both left handed for $200 from the flea market forum yesterday. I've been wanting to try the Daiwa TWS anyway. I plan to put them both on Xtasys, so they will get used. I've only tried a friends left handed reel for a short time once, so it's going to be a bit of a gamble. I don't see myself switching my cranking reels over to left hand anytime soon though. Have any of you ever switched from right to left handed reels or started using both after first starting out using a right hand?
  9. What I would do if I were you is give that Curado DC to me! ?
  10. The ice needs to melt or I need to quit looking at this thread.
  11. It would look nice with a Expride 7' Light + or 6'10" Med Light. Pretty sure you can still get a Dobyns Kaden 711sf also.
  12. I'm a Dobyns guy also, the only rods I can think of that would be close to the Extreme IMO, is the Expride in that price range, maybe the Helium 3 and the Megabass Orochi. The Megabass Destroyer but it is a little over that range.
  13. Ever thought about building your own rod? The MHX 784MB sounds like it might be perfect, it weighs 2.4 oz. I'm kinda looking for the same thing but in a Medium power for smallmouth.
  14. I got a cheaper Daiwa Revros LT on sale for $30 for my St. Croix Panfish UL rod and I'm liking it so far.
  15. I didn't mean to have a referral code in it, I just copied and pasted the url that was in my address bar. This one is a Yo-Zuri 3DS Minnow Suspending for $3.09. I just copied the url from my recent order list, it may have a referral id in the link, but I don't think it's mine. I think I got the deal from Tackle Advisor off of YouTube, so it's probably his. https://www.amazon.com/Yo-Zuri-F1135-BG-Suspending-Bluegill/dp/B00LDYR4HE/ref=pd_cp_200_1/137-0543589-8838839?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B079Z9ZN8N&pd_rd_r=eeb6a503-91b1-48ef-a381-6c6d472b4853&pd_rd_w=4TrDs&pd_rd_wg=y4xvP&pf_rd_p=e44de6bb-cc27-4696-9c22-3a1bddefabbd&pf_rd_r=Y1Y855GFX9ES1WV7KXMS&refRID=Y1Y855GFX9ES1WV7KXMS&th=1
  16. Amazon has some Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow Jerkbaits on sale for just over $3 on some colors and sizes. I was able to grab 4 of them earlier today, all different colors and sizes. Looks like there are still a few left for that price. You have to use the drop down menu and check each color and size for the price. I believe they are $9 on Tackle Warehouse. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DVKY8YN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  17. 734 would do the job and a lot more, very versatile model.
  18. Pretty much May thru October they will crush topwater and just about anything else really, they aren't real picky. I usually choose the Whopper Plopper because I'm in a kayak and can cover a lot of water with it quickly.
  19. I'm a big Dobyns fan, but the Expride seems to be the best there is in that price range.
  20. I tracked mine this year in my 2nd season of fishing and caught 515, and that's just what I captured with my GoPro, most of them from cast to release.
  21. So far I'm liking my SLX XT more than my SLX DC, unless it's really windy. I wasn't impressed with the casting distance, but I don't get backlashes when I have it setup correctly, but neither do I on most non DC reels if they are dialed in good enough. It was nice to try out, but I would rather have a MGL.
  22. If you're on a lake and have plenty of area to cast, it's fine to use as long as a rod as you want. It's when you're fishing tight quarters like a skinny river or creek that you need a shorter rod, where accuracy is more important than distance. For me personally, it's the handle length that bothers me the most. While wearing a PFD it can be harder to hold the rod in a comfortable position and tougher when going to set the hook, especially in a SIS without hitting the side of the kayak.
  23. The Exprides are great rods, not sure you would need something else, but there is the Dobyns Extreme HP 744c or 745c or the Megabass Destroyer FMJ, that might be a little more sensitive, but that's just a guess as I haven't personally compared them. The G.Loomis GLX is a good rod also, and you can usually find a used NRX for around that price in good condition and that is supposed to be the most sensitive. I seen almost new Dobyns Xtasy's selling for around $400 also a lot lately. All good choices.
  24. I have a 13 Fishing Defy Black Crankbait rod, 7'3 Heavy Power / Moderate Action that weighs less than my Dobyns Champion Glass 705 MH and is even balances better by a good amount. It's a composite rod, full cork handle, cost about $60 at full price, and is great for chatterbaits. I may go down to a Medium Heavy if you're going to throw cranks on it also. Another one that I like is a good old Ugly Stik GX2. It's another glass composite rod and very strong for $40 retail. I've caught hundreds of smallies using one, on a whopper plopper and even caught some on a chatterbait the few times I've thrown it.
