Time has come....
Sorry to hear of your bad news. My Dad just found out last week that he only has 6 months to a year to live. He has stage 4 esophageal cancer and it has spread throughout his body. Cancer is a mother ******!

Your first car
My first car was a '72 Chevy Nova with a 250 cid straight 6 in it. Bought in the spring of '81 when I turned 16 from some old lady. It was some type of orange color and had moon hubcaps on it. The only thing I liked about it (other than it was my first taste of freedom) was it had a bench seat in the front. I really enjoyed having my girlfriend sitting literally right next to me! Talk about trying not to get distracted! This was just slightly before the required seatbelt law. Had a lot of fun in that car. Oh to be young again!

Disappointed in my Dobyn's Purchase
@J Francho, Yes I was very happy and glad that I had them email me the receipt as I have a bad habit of throwing them away! I'm going to swap it for a Mojo Bass 71MHF casting rod.

Disappointed in my Dobyn's Purchase
@J Francho, I just called Scheel's and they said I could exchange it w/o the tags as long as I had my receipt.

Disappointed in my Dobyn's Purchase
@FishTank, I agree 100%. Should have just bought the Mojo Bass. The rod was just purchased as a spare/loaner.

Disappointed in my Dobyn's Purchase
@Fin S, for the $$ the Fury is a nice rod as far as the fit and finish goes. No other real gripes other than the sensitivity. In all fairness I normally use the Legend series of rods from SC and they are 4X the cost. I live in N. IL and SC is king along with G Loomis. I was glad to see the Dobyn's rods at Scheel's in Springfield, IL. I didn't have the money to try one of their nicer rods. I'm sure their more expensive rods are comparable to the nicer SC rods.

Disappointed in my Dobyn's Purchase
All, I wasn't expecting the Fury to be on par with a Legend Elite, NRX etc.. I was just disappointed in the sensitivity compared to a Mojo Bass which is basically in the same price range. @looking45, no worries. I wasn't trying to start a wizzing match was just a little disappointed with the Fury.

Disappointed in my Dobyn's Purchase
@looking45, I wasn't comparing two different priced rods not really. I said that the Mojo Bass at $ 140.00 feels way more sensitive than the $ 120.00 Fury 703C.

Disappointed in my Dobyn's Purchase
Been and am a SC fanboy but was recently at a Scheel's and they carry Dobyn's rods. I was going to buy a Mojo Bass but decided to try the Fury 703C. Fished with it over the weekend and wasn't impressed. I guess I'm spoiled by normally fishing with higher end SC rods but the sensitivity just wasn't what I'm used to. I wasn't expecting a $ 120.00 rod to feel like a $ 400.00 rod but my Mojo Bass' are WAY more sensitive (to me).

Help me choose a rod brand
I'm a St. Croix fanboy but just recently purchased a Dobyn's at Scheel's to try out. It is just a Fury 703C for one of my less expensive baitcasters.

Go to spinning reel brand. best value
I have been fishing Shimano Stradic's for over 20 years (all models) and have been very happy. I recently bought three Daiwa spinning reels (BG, Revros, and Fuego) for some of my lower end (loan) rods. I have been very surprised at how nice they are. For the money I really like the Revros and it's less than $50.00. So you don't have to spend $200.00 plus to get a decent reel.

fuego lt 2500
I bought a Daiwa Fuego LT 2500 earlier this year and have been very happy with it. I'm a Shimano Stradic fanboy but have to say I like it. I bought mine used (LNIB) at a pawnshop for $ 50.00 so I don't know if I'd pay full price for it. For $ 100.00 I think you can get the Nasci which is a great reel too. The Daiwa isn't as smooth as my Shimano's bit I do like the heavier gauge bail. I don't like the fact that Daiwa's are either made in China or Vietnam. Hard to buy from a country that was shooting at my Dad in '66.

Favorite power/action for bass spinning rod?
Thanks guys for all the responses! Best wishes, Randy Price

Looking for high end rod recommendations
@NOC 1, I have several SC Legend Elite's, Legend X's and Legend Xtreme's in spinning rods. I would probably buy one if I could ever see one. I live in N. IL and primarily fish in WI where SC is king. Our local Cabela's only sell the E6X and the employees always say buy the Avid as it's better.

Looking for high end rod recommendations
@NOC 1, I have never had a NRX but one of my fishing buddies thought the LE series of rods from SC was very close (he has several NRX's) and even a better deal for the $$. I do know once you get to a certain price point the ROI gets VERY slim. However it sounds like you're really only wanting another NRX. Better save some coin and get what you want instead of settling for something else only to be let down.

Looking for high end rod recommendations
Did you look at any of the St. Croix high end line (Legend Elite, Legend X)? They can be purchased for the low to mid $ 400.00

Favorite power/action for bass spinning rod?
Guys, what is you favorite power/action for a bass spinning rod?

Old school Shimano stradics
Had the 2000 for years. Bought new in '98 I believe. After years of trouble free service I gave it to a friend that diesn't fish much. I was worried about parts availability so I bought a new (at that time) Stradic Ci4+.

Thoughts on the Mojo Bass
Like others above I had the 68MXF "Wacky Style" Mojo bass and was very impressed with it. However, I really wanted the same rod in the Avid series so I sold it to a friend and he likes it.

How do you pass the time when fish aren't biting?
I just enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. I really like bow hunting in the early fall before it gets too cold here in N. IL. I'm totally camo'd out and enjoy watching the wildlife after they have forget your there. I have let deer pass me just because I was so happy just to be out there.

How do you pass the time when fish aren't biting?
I'm with @gimruis on this one. I often bank fish and if the fish aren't biting I'll just enjoy the fresh air and maybe smoke a cigar if I brought one.

Spinning rod and reel recommendations
I agree with others regarding the Daiwa Revros 2500 LT or the Shimano Sienna in a 2500 size. As far as a inexpensive rod I would go to cabela's/bass pro and look at their store brands. My son really likes his Shakespere Ugly Stik.

Anyone else goofy like me?
Thanks guys for all the replies. I guess since I have worked since 16 (I'm 55 now) and had to pay my own way I baby things too much. I'm going to really try to enjoy all my stuff. Like others have said I can't take it with me and my kids might not even like it after I'm gone. Best Wishes to all. Randy

Anyone else goofy like me?
You guys are all correct! I know I should use and enjoy it but it's a hard mental thing for me to break.

Anyone else goofy like me?
I grew up not having nice things. Now that I can afford them I find I baby them almost to the point of non use. A couple of examples- I bought a pair of Swarovski binoculars several years ago. I always wanted a pair of premium bino's. However, when I head to the woods I grab my Vortex's because I don't want to hurt them. Same thing with my SC Legend Elite and Extreme rods. A couple of years ago I had some bonus money so I bought two of each in different powers and actions yet when I go fishing I tend to grab one of my Avid rods. I know I should use and enjoy them but I have a hard time with it. Anybody else goofy like me?
