Smells like fish

I asked this question a week ago and was ready to order a Shimano rod and as of today that rod is sold out. Now I am looking to place a Curado 70 on a Falcon 6’8” medium mod-fast rod. How versatile would this rod be? I was wanting a jerkbait rod but would it also be good for lipless? Shallow cranks? Squarebills? All advice is noted and appreciated!

Happy Thanksgiving my fellow bass, fishing and lure addicts. I was wondering who else will be throwing a lure tomar? I am going to the in laws (they live by a great Smallmouth stream) which means I’ll be smelling like brown bass before during and after the turkey is cut and the gravy is splashed on everything!! I might rub a lil cranberry sauce on my Zoom lizard or dip him in the gravy!!! Anybody else?

My local shop is slacking on hooks. I bought a 6 pack of Gamakatsu magic eye ewg #2’s. I’ll have wait to find some #4’s. I bought a 2 tap in natural Shad and bought my first 1/4oz to try. Interesting to note that my 2 tap is made in China and my regular RES are Costa Rica. I thank all you guys that so freely share your years of experience! Me and a lot of others are taking notes and really appreciate it!!

@A-Jay I’m about to make a run to get hooks. Are you still using triple grips size 2 front and back on 1/2oz RES? I think the SK rings will suffice for me, do you change those out on yours? What’s your thoughts on the front red hook for RES? Thanks

I still have my target somewhere. My instructors advice was to pin it to my house for unwelcome guests to see. Before we shot, the instructor told us about a guy who had shot the target below the belt and between the legs and a big laugh was made over that guy’s bad shooting, so we have this one guy that is new to shooting and of course he struggles to qualify and his first shot hit the silhouette between the legs perfectly lol everybody looked at each other except for the shooter. I bet he’ll never forget that!

Maybe the hen lost it and he’s bringing it back to her? ?

In warmer shallow water I like a balsa jerkbait. AC Shiner or Rapala from 2.5” to 6”. If you have never had an AC Shiner in your life, you need one.

Cheap lures catch fish but I can’t ignore all the input from the guys that buy more expensive ones. So I buy what I like, but I like them all ? My approach to buying lures is I set a limit of what I’ll spend. I keep it $30 to $40 per shopping trip. So sometimes that’s 3 or 4 $10 lures or it was a vision one ten and a bag of Senkos the other day. The only way I’ve found to ignore the sting of losing lures and you will lose many, is it hurts a lot less when you have a dozen of a lure rather than 1 or 2. and when you lose 1 buy 2 or 3 back to replace the 1. Bait monkey approves!! ? ?

I assume you will need to look at weight transfer system in my top pic. If it has the multi small weights then it is the older lure that I “think” most guys preferred. I opened a older China model today that said suspending on package and in my 50’s degree water it is a slow floater, so I’ll have to try in colder water or add lead tape. If you’re seeing tiny rattles then I would call it the older and preferred version

If chara is tough then this isn’t it, this stuff is super tender and requires lil effort to rip away from hooks. It did have a slight musk smell though.

UPDATE: Here is my latest understanding of these jerkbaits. @Teal @BlakeMolone 110mm model introduced 2011 (Rcstx1) 95mm model introduced 2012 (Rcstx2) 2011-2015 made in China 2016-present made in USA The made in China cards include Geneva, Illinois- Greenwood, Arkansas and Cassville Missouri affiliations on the card. The USA made model has Greenwood, Arkansas on card. All of my Made in China lure packs have the wraparound plastic cover of package stapled onto card. My USA made package does NOT have wraparound plastic and is simply glued to the front of the card. As stated in an earlier post by @JediAmoeba the weight transfer system differs between countries of manufacture. In the picture below you can see the USA made model has 2 large moving weights whereas the China made model has multi smaller sized weights. The top three lures are Made in China models. The bottom lure is a USA model.

The jerkbait is in the stuff I get in the most. The jerkbait pic is the chara algae @scaleface ? What has the RES Dragged in? One of the biggest cups I ever caught! Only caught 1 little bass in the 30 mins I was there. I did find a Shad rap and a Bill Lewis Rat-l-trap though!!

I may go throw some RES tomorrow, I’ll take a pic of it and give it the sniff test ?

RES of many colors today at Cabelas @lo n slo The 2 tap tungsten models are next on my shopping list but at $9 each it’s gonna take a lil joy away when throwing them into thick stuff!!

I think that’s the “grass” I was in @scaleface so it’s trouble?

I was hitting grass on every cast yesterday and it was always bring in both trebles with 4” of grass. There was great vibration without the grass contact but once that little bit of grass was on the hooks I couldn’t feel any vibration. I would then give a hard jerk trying to clear off the grass but more often than not I was retrieving my lure without feeling it work. I’ve read where the lipless are best ripped through grass. What am I doing wrong? Or is it that the contact, ripping and reduced vibration with grass filled trebles a good thing? Lol

Every video I watch says to yo yo it off the bottom so I thought maybe different rates of fall would be a good thing. It’s good enough that I’ll pick up a variety of RES tomar hopefully. I tried yo yoing today but the only bass I caught today was burning it in. Must not been a yo yo kinda day

Do you guys alternate 1/4oz, 1/2oz, and 3/4oz in the same depth for faster and slower rate of fall with good luck? Can you give any tips and tricks for the res?

Today was a little windy but reached into the 60’s. So my season will probably end today right where it began. At 3:55 I was at a lake for 30 mins and was able to catch a largemouth on a red eye Shad in chrome blue back, then drove to a creek with easy access and threw a 6” Zoom lizard and caught this little smallmouth at 5:13. The first and last fish of the year was the same fish caught under the ledge it was under in March ☺️

Do you think the one missing paint is a bigger size of the flash minnow? All 3 being Lucky Craft with the 2 on the left being repaints perhaps
