  1. I use a lot of swim jigs and I am usually imitating crappie or perch. I usually go with more subtle tones than the loud color of a firetiger scheme. Maybe your bass also like the more subtle colors of the white perch imitators.
  2. I've been happy with them, have an interesting mix of stuff. They're only about 90 minutes from me, so that counts as shopping local as far as online shopping goes I think. I keep eyeing those Aftco sun hoodies.
  3. I've had good times with a Slug-Go. You don't see them much in the tackle shops anymore though. Used to use the big ones for pike.
  4. I found the discount code box in the order summary when it wanted me to populate my contact info. At least that is where it was on mobile.
  5. Fishing Complete has a 20% off code: lockdown20 https://fishingcompleteinc.com/ I've ordered from them before, no complaints.
  6. Looks like Kistler is running another sale. Zbones are down to $385. Even at 30% off, that's still too rich for my blood. I just moved up into the $200 rod bracket. Frankly, I don't even want to know what I'm missing at the $500+ price point.
  7. I would try to get a rod with a shorter handle if you kayak fish a lot. The longer handle rods are kind of a pain. If your budget is $350, you might want to get a custom rod built for your application.
  8. While I am super happy that my Triton is legal again, I was really looking forward to a once in a lifetime kayak adventure on a local powerboating lake that would have been wake free. Oh well, back to fixing my trailer, we're back in the game.
  9. Also get a micro SD card! You can tell the unit to record and make a new lake map for you as you are going along. It's magical.

To save yourself headaches later, getting one that can rotate the hook around is a feature that I would advise you to look for. I went to the hardware store and built a DIY vise for about $15. It's a little on the beast mode side of things, and certainly won't win any beauty competitions, but it can handle putting feathers on a little drop shot hook all the way up to a 12/0 bucktail for musky.
  11. It also depends what you're making. I do the whole buy the heads and tie them myself thing. I tied up 10 preacher jigs this winter as opposed to paying $10+ a piece for good ones online. I have maybe $25 in materials into them so I saved $75 and now I have a lot of extra bucktail for other projects. I tend to be drawn to the expensive ($6-10) regular jigs anyway, so tying my own equivalents does save me money and helps pass the winter. That reminds me, I have a small box of Siebert Outdoors swim jig heads that still need tying.
  12. I noticed that you pull your line out against the drag after each cast with the spinning reel. What's that do for you?
  13. Beast Coast is where I got a bunch of Tungsten this year. Great price and I love that each weight is packaged in it's own little chamber. Siebert Outdoors also has quality stuff and gets a fair amount of my terminal money.
  14. I didn't know TW had a military discount! I could have had 10% more tackle.....
  15. Kistler is running a rod sale. There's also an extra 15% off coupon for over $249. Puts a KLX at $212. Wish they didn't have micro guides, probably would have listened to the bait monkey's sweet whispers.
  16. 7" Berkeley Power Worm in Blue Fleck which is actually a dark purple. So I'm definitely on the purple worm hype train.
  17. I thought junk fishing was five fish, each at a different location and different lure. Jargon is fun.
  18. I've had good success putting inline singles on my jerkbaits, including my Visions. What's really nice is that you can kind of fish them in weeds without fouling immediately. You miss a few fish if they are just swiping at it but you can also use a heavier rod when around cover so it's a mixed bag.
  19. Saw these v's the other weekend go within arm's reach of me in the kayak and there was nothing under them. Assumed it to be wind or transparent minnows. Guess it was only the wind.
  20. I like them because of the reduced line twists; I'm not a great drop shot angler though. I think I had better hookups with the Owner Mosquito hook though, which doesn't have a swivel. Guess there's something to be said for having less hardware in front of the fish's face.
  21. I put the P-Line copolymer on my jerk bait rod for a year or so. Stretches like crazy but my hook up to land ratio was fantastic, they couldn't shake the hooks with that much stretch in the line. Main problem was it had no sensitivity. I could tell that I had a fish on but there wasn't much difference in feel between a 10" bass and a 25" pike. Was kind of fun because it was always a surprise if it was a fish or weeds, and if a fish, then what kind and how big.
  22. Sure, but sailboats with a motor are banned too.
  23. The DNR was having problems with people stacking 3-4 deep in 12ft tin boats. Also, they needed to ban waverunners with more than one rider. Also, I think they wanted to reduce people going to gas stations to fuel their motors. Lastly, if motored boats are banned, it reduces how many people file complaints about the launch docks still sitting in the ramp parking lots. I think there was a lot of factors and it was simpler to just enact a blanket ban than assign some of their limited resources to getting dragged down into the weeds by all the exceptions.
  24. I think one of the core problems is enforcement. Is a sheriff going to stop every boat with two people and check the address on their license? That also puts said sheriff at greater risk for getting the virus. Easier to just make the boats unlawful and most people won't risk the hefty fine. The ones that do are few enough to be picked off more safely.
