Eye opening
So per usual I am a little late to the party..this time in the case of the menace grub. I have heard for years how great they are and based off that I bought several packs but never really gave them a fair shake. Then a good buddy of mine..who happens to be a member here..kept ranting and raving about how he loves them and they are his swim jig trailer. So I threw one on a swim jig a few weeks ago and now it's all I'm throwing. Holy crap they eat that thing! One negative I've heard is they are pricey and not durable. They are a little pricey yes but I find them fairly durable...I think I've used 3 or 4 and have caught at least 20 bass on them. At that rate I can catch 40 or 50 on a pack..that's fair for $5.

Humdinger Tom Monsoor swim jig

Squarebill Rod Confusion
I don't think there's one right type of rod for many applications. I throw my Squarebills on two rods a 7ft medhvy moderate fast and a 7ft med moderate. Most people say the medium is too light but I like it. I also throw swim jigs on a med fast...most people won't go under a med hvy but it works for me. Guess I'm saying if you like it then you roll with it. Dance with the one who brung ya! Don't buy into the whole this is the only type of rod for this crap. Unless you want a squarebill specific rod..then by all means get one.

Specific swim jig question
I bought some of the BOSS bullethead jigs a while back for cheap on skirts unlimited. I want to get some more but I saw the grass jig heads on sieberts and thought I may just go with those. How similar are these two jigs? Has anybody used both? They look similar but was just wondering if anybody has handled both

Appreciation
Not gonna get a better deal on a reel than that! Remember how good this feels and give somebody else that's struggling that same feeling one day when your able

Our throw away society
I'm not saying they aren't capable of changing a tire I'm saying they aren't able. It's ignorance not stupidity and yes a lot of it comes down to how they are raised. Of course I wasn't serious that there isn't anyone that age capable of getting it done more just proving a point. Sharpening a knife...cleaning fish and game...splitting firewood...safely using a firearm...a lot of these thing are going by the wayside. Glad you took the time to teach your daughter some of these basic life skills. I saw a young girl I'm guessing 18 to 20 years old not that long ago who didn't know how to pump gas.

Baitcast Reels
Abu Garcia round reels are junk? Huh that's weird I have one that's 25 years old that's caught thousands of catfish and redfish with no problems. Guess I should throw it away now that I know how bad it sucks.

Summer square Bill?
That's cool nothing wrong with that was just giving you a hard time! My girlfriend doesn't fish much but she likes to walk around the ponds I fish...kind of her hobby I guess. Sometimes she finds me a new soft plastic or crankbait laying around...she's gets exercise and I get free lures so it's a win win.

Summer square Bill?
I use a squarebill much like a spinnerbait...bump it into cover and wait for a deflection bite. Oh and you don't fish in spring? Makes sense...I mean who wants to catch more and bigger fish?!

Sad I don’t know...
Your supposed to drill a tiny hole and go through it. Just kidding man don't do that. I'm not sure which way it's supposed to go...just wanted to add to the confusion! I would call or email them for clarification if it was me.

Stretching mono to reduce memory
Everybody has a different take on things like this. My dad taught me how to spool reels when I was probably 10 or so..he always used mono and he always stretched it. We caught alot of big redfish and black drum..large powerful saltwater fish... on 14lb clear blue stren original and I don't really remember a lot of breakoffs as if we compromised the line stretching it. Too this day I use mono and a lot of copolymer and will often times do what your describing as stretching it. But for me I'm doing it under moderate tension and not really to take elasticity out of the line but just to get it tighter and laying better on the spool. I also use KVD line and lure..it helps. This is just my experience of course. P.S. Ain't ever been a bass born that can pull like a redfish..that I can promise. I just pulled a 6lb largemouth out of a brush pile last week with 12lb copoly and the line was fine. Guess I'm saying stretch it if you want to..and as long as you don't stretch to the failure point I doubt you will have any issues as long as you practice good preventative maintenance which you should be doing already. Tie good knots and check often for abrassion.

Its spinnerbait time
I agree with it being spinnerbait time...I was struggling at a local pond Sunday...ran to another pond and switched to a 3\8ths Nichols metal flake blade spinner and caught 11 bass in 2 hours or so. 2 dinks the other 9 between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs. Caught 8 on the spinnerbait 3 on a swim jig.

Lure suggestion
Pretty sure your vendetta is a 6'3 medium...same as mine. I think it is anyway.

Passing Time
I live in Iowa and work in South Dakota so no shut down here. Outside of work I am practicing social distancing. Practicing it at work to as much as I can. Going fishing every day I can when the weather allows...even been a few times with buddies but we drive in separate cars and stay away from each other as much as possible. Finally had two nice days in a row and this afternoon I found a little pocket of prespawn fatties in that 2.5 to 3.5lb range. Nothing crazy but I did manage 11 of em on a spinnerbait and swim jig before they shut off. I do have a tree in my backyard I need down but I have been finding lots of good excuses to put that off and fish! I will echo what JimmyJoe said...I too find myself in a better mood lately despite all the bad going on. Maybe it's the return to a simple uncluttered life without a bunch of filler that is making me this way. It seems like all we do as a society is cram as much crap into our time off as possible instead of enjoying things while we are doing them and just being content. All I really wanna do is work enough to pay my bills...fish as much as I can...and hang out with my best friend(girlfriend). And that's exactly what I've been doing.

Big bite baits chunk trailer
I'm kinda hoping for little to no action...I use the chunk for profile and slow rate of fall in the cold water period..I reach for something like a Christie craw or rage plastic when I want high action
