3rd Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
Guys, just thought I would let you know that there aren't very many cabins left. If you haven't got your cabin and want to stay in one you better get it soon. They only have one chalet left for that week too.

So I'm bored with fishing, and selling all my gear.
Same here. That HLC was gonna be mine!

Ceramic Bearing Upgrades
The level wind on the C4 is non-disengaging. It moves when in free-spool. So cutting down friction there, and the in the gear that drives it, should also increase casting distance. You're right. I always have Daiwa on the brain, wasn't thinking how Abu's are made.

Alpster, I think I changed my mind about getting there on Sunday. If you and Speedbead are getting there on Saturday I may do the same. Is anyone else getting there on Saturday? Getting Real Excited Now!! 8-)

Is this an old Bagley...?
I have to agree, I don't think it's a Bagley's. Beware!

Ceramic Bearing Upgrades
I'll be taking you up on that offer on the Carbontex. I had no idea you sold these and would rather support BR anyway. Thanks for the info.

Ceramic Bearing Upgrades
You're not going to see much of a performance upgrade by adding a ceramic bearing to your level wind unless it did not have a bearing there to start with. If it only had a nylon spacer then you will get better line lay on the spool by adding a bearing there. You added ceramics where they count the most, on the spool. This will give you distance on your casting. You will notice it will be easier to cast with less effort. Make sure if you ordered the bearings greased to clean them out before installing them. You don't want grease in ceramic bearings on the spool. That defeats the purpose. After cleaning, one or two drops of good oil per bearing and your good to go. I always grease my frame bearings that are under heavier loads and oil the ones under lighter loads such as spool bearings. But that is just me. Most Daiwa handles will fit on Abu reels. Bassart, ZPI, I'ZE, Avail are just some after market handles to look at. Be ready to pay for half of what you have in the reel though. Bass Pro has some decent handles too that are way cheaper. That should be a mean Abu when you get finished with it. I wanna see pics when you're done.

Quality oil for spool bearings
Rocket Fuel - yellow, red is a little higher viscosity and lasts a little longer but will slow your spool down more which translates to lost casting distance. Friction Zero - I have this on a few reels with ceramic bearings installed. Does not last long but you can achieve crazy casting distances. I like the bottle applicator that Reel Mechanic sells. His oil looks like it is just about the same as Daiwa's oil. Daiwa has two types of oil, the red and a clear oil. I think they both are the same, the red just has added dye.

Lots of Benjamins
Check out this stack of money seized. A guy sent these pics to me in an email. Those are all 100 dollar bills! That would buy a lot of fishing equipment!!

brand loyalty
cajun1977, awesome stories, especially the first one. I am loyal to Daiwa baitcasters and Kistler rods. I like the smaller frames found on most Daiwa reels as well as the lack of extra weight and extremely high level of precision. Kistler rods have been nothing but good to me in customer service on warranty claims and also on a personal level. Trey Kistler will talk to you like he has known you for years. I like that! With that said, there are other reels I own that are Shimano. They make a mean spinning reel. I would also like to try a few other rod lines such as Loomis and Dobyns. Both seem to have exceptional customer service. Nothing wrong with a little variety I guess.

Quantity vs. Quality
I'm with Raul on this one. I experiment with all types, form an opinion on my own, and decide at the end of the day if it goes in the junk box or stays on the boat. You should see my junk box!

Daddy like...daddy like a lot!!
That right there is sexy. One Shimano I wouldn't mind owning. I like that shallow spool and the high gear ratio. 8-) Those colors would match a Helium II perfect.
