Best made in the USA
I just checked on their web: KISTLER KC9 100% Japanese Carbon by Toray-Extreme High Modulus The way I read it, the blanks are made from Toray carbon. I think all Toray carbon is made in Japan. Alx enox is also made from Toray t1100 but it is made stateside. Lots of rods made in China are made from Toray carbon. edit: not all toray carbon is made in Japan. https://www.cf-composites.toray/products/carbon_fiber/

Best made in the USA
Kistler get blanks from Japan? I don’t think that’s accurate.

What happened with all the 6’6” rods?
It looks like very few companies still make 6’6” medium fast rods. I just purchased tatula with those specs but was surprised with how few options I had. The industry trends towards longer and longer rods, but I like shorter rods and don’t want to see them gone. Am I in the minority?

Braided line - which ones stand out?
Berkley x9 on casting gear and Fireline ultra 8 on spinning gear. Before I also used sufix 832, but I like x9 more.

Something seems wrong?
I have come across something similar before. I can’t lie, I got very excited for about 0.1 second.

Are All Dobyns CB Rods Composite Blanks? (Apparently They are)
I do materials testing for living. If you are really curious and are willing to cut up your rod to pieces let me know. I am allowed to use company instruments to do testing for personal projects after hours.

Jason Christie winning lure?
There are better baits to use for hanging the minnow (damiki rig?). Try something naturally buoyant. I don’t think yum plastics are naturally buoyant.

What happened? I thought I was going to smash them...but didn't...wind??
Me too. I hate fishing in the wind. I’ll take heavy rain and snow but I’ll pass on heavy wind. Not sure how it affects the fish but it sure affects me.

Rod/reel in person or online?
Sometimes I etch my initials too, look on the underside of the butt section.

Rod/reel in person or online?
I would like to buy in person, but no shop near me offers the selection of online retailers. Return process is super simple. Sometimes I order couple of rods, put reel on, make few casts in my yard and decide which one to keep. Can’t do that in the store and shaking or bending the rod only gets you so far. it also cheaper to buy online thanks to discounts and I don’t have to spend money on gas.

What colors catch YOU?
Just like A Jay, clear/ghost topwaters. Really like them and they actually do work great for me.

Tackle Warehouse communication issues?
Yeah I’m with you. I don’t remember the last time I bought a rod in person. Returning rods purchased online is as easy as buying them. I buy shoes online as well. Same brand same size every time, when I wear them out I get a new pair.

Tackle Warehouse communication issues?
No problems with tackle warehouse. Only once during early stages of the pandemic my shipment was late, but they communicated it ahead of time. Also helps that they have 10% veteran discount on everything. My most recent order arrived in 5 days since purchase, as advertised.

Virtus Rods?
Not sure if I missed it on the website, but what guides are they using?

Can you re-melt nearly any soft plastic bait?
As long as the material it’s made of is a thermoplastic

Ridiculed from buddies for bass fishing???
No, nothing new, but walleye fishing appears to attract the highest amount of stupid. I even met few who claimed to have killed muskies because muskies eat walleyes…

Virtus Rods?
They have my interest. Are the blanks rolled in USA? Based in Harrison, Ar. Is it where Ark blanks (for older falcons) were rolled?

Conundrum: keep a secret place to myself?
No such thing as secret spot, sure. But there is such thing as too much advertisement for a good spot, especially on a medium or small size water in an big urban agglomeration. Posting a fishing report about big river with information where you put in makes no difference. But post a successful fishing report about a medium or small size river and you might find it crowded next time and there is only so much room in such places especially when access points are few.

Good for you. My experience with sharing on local boards has been much different.

BFS = Big Fight Scheduled. I’m bummed.
If the fish wants to run let it run. Let the drag do the work. With lighter gear yanking the fish in on a locked drag is a bad idea. Set your drag appropriately to you line size and use it to your advantage.
