  2. X2great little reels I have a few of them.. Tight Lines!
  3. LCM,Removing any length from the butt of the blank will make the Action/Taper more moderate (SOFTER), it will DECREASE the Stiffness/Power, it will change the lower end of the line rating (slight decrease), and the upper range will DECREASE. Your reel seat might need arbors, also the blank weight decreases. Hope this helps with your decision.. Tight Lines!
  4. I am in 100% agreement with JF.The original super tunning started in 1994, it was nothing more than removing the oxidation from the spool shaft, interior of the pinion, and shaft end shims. It was mainly used in older reels (80's and early 90's) reels that didn't have any form of spool shaft support bearings (mostly bushing systems), to aid in casting. Todays reels are aided in casting by support bearings behind the engagement pins, and at the base of the pinion gears, not to mention spool shaft ends. All of this keeps the spool shaft level and in tolerance and aids in smooth casting. The actual polishing of shafts and pinions is not really needed in todays reels. In our shop we have been doing this as part of a stock clean & lube for over a decade. Any kind of bearing, or drag pad replacement is just that "an upgrade", and doesn't necessiarly mean a super tune. Just an old service techs .02¢ Tight Lines!
  5. Don't try to figure what the issue is here (everyone here is just guessing).Either send it in to Shimano, or to Mike here @ DVT. Don't take a chjance on making the issue worse. Just a service techs .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  6. You can read/watch all the video/instruction you want on-line, but if you have never broken a reel down. Your best bet is to send it off to the site sponsor Mike @ DVT. Don't take a chance of losing a small part, or over lubricating, send it in. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  7. LOL they don't know where Park City is either...Here is the link to Bingham Ent. She has been my Custom Build Supplier for 15+yrs. The best in the industry imo... http://www.angelfire.com/ks/bingham/ Tight Wraps!
  8. I thougth there was one in the Tackle Making forumsNoticing the location KCK did you get your supplies from Karen @ Bingham Ent. in Overland Park? -RM-
  9. Really nice work! What is the make of the blanks, and guides? The Eucalyptus Burl, is really nice looking. Looks somewhat like the Laguna Burl I used with a burnt burl for contrasting accents.... Tight Lines!
  10. So True. But better believed when photographed..... Tight Lines!
  11. Trusty old 200B's, it's a great reel.I use my 201B5 for shallow running lipped, and suspending lipless cranks. I use my 201B38 for deep running cranks, ie DD22 types. Tight Lines All!
  12. You need to go back into the reel and adjust the anti-reverse claw ref# 53 on our schematic. Adjust the blades tight to the rachet gear assembly, then re-adjust the blades a hair looser, so that the claw will be pulled down with the slightest reverse movement, the reel will feel slightly tight but this is the proper adjustment for the reel. As you re-assemble check the reels ability to stop the reverse of the handle, and make adjustment accordingly. Always have your reels schematic on hand............. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  13. The "Green Reel" man is located in Heber Springs, Ark. Noticed everyone is talking simple green.. I used that stuff in the 90's and found you had to heat it to get it to actully cut built up grease, or you had to use ultra-sonic. Shifted to Safety-Kleen and never looked back, triple filtered system, self contained, and, recycled by SK. Tight Lines!
  14. I agree 100% sounds like it has been greased. The Japanese printing on the front of the one-way bearing pack reads "Use No Grease" If no grease was used then it was over oiled, or, like Mike said the sleeve was installed upside down. Should be fat side up. Tight Lines!
  15. Probably some rust gathered around the the bearings recess, try adding a drop or two of oil just around the edge of the recess and outer edge of the bearing. It might help in the losening of the pack in the recess... We have the ability to submerge the parts in our cleaner tank, and, it will loosen the bearing packs for removal.Tight Lines
  16. Those bearing packs can be a PIA to get out.I use a bearing puller that I make. Take a T-pin bend the point about an 1/16" or so into an L shape. Place the bent tip through the bearing center under the bearing and lift, you will propbably have to do this in a differant spot as you lift around under the bearing. Try it, this has worked for me for 27 yrs. of servicing reels/bearings.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  17. J, I thought you could just swaap the bearing for the bushing, correct? >> Yes as long as the reel was a bearing supported reel. The bearing will not fit a B series reel with a gray bushing receiver. BC, My only concern with pulling the pin out all together is that it may "imbalance" the spool. There is a fix that I have used since the reels came out in the early 90's. I use a T-pin bent at the tip (basically my bearing puller). I lift and remove the chrome ring that backs the pins in the hub. I then reinsert the lose pin/s back into their holes. Now I take some super glue gel, place one drop on each pin then replace the ring and press it flush into the hub. I do this by turning the hub with the ring over and press it in. This fix works evry time and is long lasting..... Tight Lines!!
  18. All of the BNT1507 spools are interchangable into right or left hand retrieve B series reels. The thing you have to be careful about is, is wether or not the reel had a gray bushing or a stainless steel bearing behind the spool engagement pin. Shimano made both in the same B series reels. Reels with a gray bushing will have a receiver slot for the bushing that is not as deep as with a stainless steel bearing. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  19. It would help preserve the look......
  20. The Shimano 5x9x3mm bearing pack isn't cheap, MSRP is $16.00ea. Tight Lines!
  21. Looking like a trick ?.Almost looks like the bling plates from a Symetre What is the printed word on the plate?
  22. Willing to bet the reel was sold and was a return because of the gear noise.Over a season the original grease on the gear teeth is probably dried out. Send it into Shimano, DVT, or any of the Reel Mechanics here and have it deep serviced.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  23. I don't see anything missing there. The clip holds the drag pads in place. Sounds like you have something in the reels rotor binding or line wrap around the rod tip or guide...Send it to Mike (DVT)........... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
