  1. Only thing that kid is catching is
  2. I just want to say that you're not alone in coming to love a spinnerbait super late. I went from hating them to them being one of my top 3 favorite baits 3-4 years ago.
  3. You don't need it to move. Set the hook. So many jokes to be made here but I don't like bans.
  4. It wouldn't even cross my mind to want my friends to catch less fish or none at all. I could never imagine being upset that they changed to what was working for me or someone else. We have had made fishing a team effort when we're together. I didn't even realize normal people would view it differently, but humanity will never stop being surprising.
  5. If you're that big of a fish and the bird is struggling to eat you and is dropping you back into the water and you still lack all desire to swim down and escape, you deserve to be eaten.
  6. Location always changes with the season and the wind. But lures pretty much always stay the same these days. I know what will work, and I'm there to catch fish, so I use what works to catch fish. Don't care to experiment anymore.
  7. If bass could grow as big as some catfish or even as large as sharks, nobody could ever be around fresh water where they exist. They are truly apex predators.
  8. Weight of standard 6'6" - 7'3" bass rods from reputable companies have never been a concern of mine. When the weight of feathers start affecting me, it's time to hang up physical activity.
  9. My favorite fishing is wading small, knee high rivers out in the middle of absolutely nowhere. I don't like people.
  10. Mine doesn't hate it. I pity the men who are dominated by their women to the point of hiding things. That's...very unnatural.
  11. I've seen 2 lb bass make a lot of noise along the banks. Can't hurt to fish this place and see what it holds, but don't be too certain it was a big bass or even a bass at all.
  12. You get more hookups when you feel the bite. You would be surprised by how many bites you don't feel, even on a more expensive rod. An Ugly Stik is not a sensitive rod. I was suggesting that you put your new Lambo on something more deserving to take your game to the next level. Nothing more. Even a Daiwa Aird-X would be better than this rod, and it's $50. * Someone who started on Black Max combos a long time ago.
  13. It's about feel. But if you're the angler equivalent of a person who can't tell the difference between a $10 bottle of wine and a $100 bottle of wine, then yes, it's pretty much all the same. Sensitivity will only benefit those who can decipher it.
  14. Unless you're just learning to use a BC reel, the rod is generally considered more important. You will get far more hookups and better casting performance out of better rods. It's definitely not just a bendy stick. A rod can change your entire fishing game.
  15. Very nice. Now, get that beauty off the Max X combo rod.
  16. It's been summer for 6 weeks and we're talking about a fall transition and seeing the beginnings of fall.....on July 31st LOL. I'm never ready for summer to end. At least with summer you have options. Early morning, at night, cooler days, lots of water, jump in the lake, etc etc. Then winter comes and the options are zero or close to zero for many of us. Winter is long and it's horrible.
  17. A 45 ft deep 3-4 acre pond sounds insane to me.
  18. I have mostly only fished in the north, Great Lakes region states. I have noticed two things when it comes to LMB up here. They fight harder in the rivers (no surprise), and they fight harder in minimally pressured, secluded ponds and lakes (whereas popular, highly pressured ponds and lakes produce weak fighters). The only conclusion I can draw about the latter is that conditioning has taught them what being caught is (when caught from high pressure waters), so they don't really give it hell (or something). Idk. But it's consistent for me.
  19. If you value the reel more, 7' MH/F Daiwa Aird-X rod paired with a Daiwa Fuego 7 speed reel or a Shimano SLX XT 7 speed reel. Both reels handle very well. The Fuego is bulkier and less comfortable, whereas the SLX is slimmer and more palmable. If you value the rod more, Dobyns Fury 704C rod paired with an Abu Garcia Black Max (now known as the Max X). Since you're new to bait casting you're probably going to want to worry more about the reel.
  20. Pollution, pressure and fishery abuse, the increase of shoreline property, and yes, even FFS, will one day combine to put the nail in the coffin for many if not most fisheries sooner rather than later. Most of us have noticed the rapid declines across the country. You can't have a million people living on the lake, you can't have massive pollution, you can't have a million boats on the water fishing all the time, and you can't target fish with precision in haunts you never could before FFS and expect everything to go on as usual. Only when the last fish is caught, and the last tree dies, will man understand that he can't eat money.
  21. I know. I was just adding another regional variation. Some call it a derby, some call it a tournament, some use both for different kinds of events.
  22. It's probably nothing special. The Abu Max series of rods and reels are budget options. Nowadays, at least, they typically comes as combos. I'm familiar with Black Max, Silver Max, and Pro Max, and that's listed in order based on price. They're generally considered fine pieces of equipment for what you pay for them. The names on these changed some recently. I know the Black Max is now the Max X. A lot of people use these because for $40 they're amazing. The Black Max/Max X combos are often the first thing many new bass anglers purchase and learn on. No idea about the Gold Max specifically, but I'm sure it's just a step up within these Max variants. Should fish just fine, especially for panfish.
  23. Where I'm from it's only called a derby for kids. Tournament is used for any half serious competition.
  24. Other than actually landing the bass, from the strike to the successful hook set is easily the best part.
  25. You can be passionate about both gaming and fishing. I am. Don't let previous generations and social stigmas dictate what you love. Gaming is no different than watching TV, browsing the Internet, or even casually reading books. The idea that it's a loser hobby is boomer and Gen X mentality from the 90s and 00s. Science has since disprove them on all fronts (good for the brain, good for reaction time, helps maintain good decision making and lessens the chance of neurological disorders, etc). It's not good to game all day as it's not good to watch TV all day, but the hobby in and of itself isn't bad nor does it produce brain rot - quite the opposite. It's not gaming's fault that people already suffering brain rot can't be bothered to touch grass and give it a bad name. But it's similar to the marijuana issue. Old timers will smash a rack of Busche and scold you about a blunt. Similarly they will sit in front of the TV and scold you about gaming. It's all nonsense. We need to start understanding each other better, and understanding technological changes with each generation. Get out and fish as much as possible. It's way better for mental and physical health than gaming is, but gaming isn't inherently bad. You're allowed to have several hobbies. I also play pool (8 ball, 9 ball) as a third passionate hobby, so I'm frequently in bars. That doesn't make me an alcoholic. Enjoy life, man. Your way.
