Same thing happened to me today, except mine was 2-3 times as big... Never hooked a turtle before reading this thread, right in the tail, but thankfully popped off right at the boat. I was fishing a private pond, and this pond has the biggest snapping turtles I've ever seen.

Jerkbait and a spinnerbait this spring/winter. Nothing like that jerkbait bite, it's a deadly lure. I used to think a spinnerbait was the dumbest thing compared to a chatterbait and such. Caught some decent fish on it this spring, and I became a believer.

I've read/watched/ been told(source: bassmaster.com) that the females don't drop all there eggs on one bed, in case that bed fails.
