Tried out my new waders..
Thanks guys it was a great day and I got to learn alot more about the lake I was fishing because it was still early in the season and the weeds were not grown yet. Learned a little more about structure, deep holes and drop offs. Also got a feel for wading in calmer waters before heading out to the river in my waders. Catching some nice fish was a bonus. LBH - New rod was AWESOME!

Tried out my new waders..
Today I headed out to one of my favorite local honeyholes to try out my new waders. The skies were mostly sunny with just a slight breeze and the temps were in the mid 40's. BEAUTIFUL DAY! When I arrived at the honey hole and started checking out the place, it was the perfect time to see the layout of the lake because the weeds were not yet grown up so I could see most of the structure of the lake where I have pulled fish out in the past. I made many mental notes to myself on this trip.. ;D I took my first step in the water to find that you sink down much further than the bottom of the lake looks. It can be pretty slick and slippery too, but I must say that it was a blast. First thing that I saw all over was perch. There were what seemed like tons of them. Whole schools of them swimming along the shore line but only in certain areas of the lake. I decided that these areas where the fish were had to be by where the deeper holes and drop-offs in the lakes must be because they were just starting to fan out into the shore line area and in other areas of the lake where it was much shallower there were no fish to be seen. I decided to try to fish for the perch but I had no idea what to throw to catch them. I decided to thow a Case Helgrammite on a jig head slathered in Cb's sauce. The perch swarmed around it and many of them hit on it but I did not manage to hook up with any. Instead I got a bass. This guy must have noticed all the perch hanging around my bait and he came swimming up and chased them all away then turned and slammed into my bait. Here he is the perch chaser and my first fish of the day. I released him back to where he came from so hopefully my daughter will catch him too one day A little while later in a different spot on the lake I managed to catch this guy while I was still trying to catch the darn perch. At the end of the day I never did catch any perch but I did catch some nice fish and had an awesome time trying out my new waders. I can't wait to head out in them again. Also learned that it is kinda difficult to unhook a fish and not sink your rod and reel in the water at the same time while wading. ;D

I HATE LOSING LURES!!!!
Just lost a custom crankbait that even has my name engraved on the bottom of it a few days ago. Let me tell you I was bummed. Naturally it just happened to be the longest cast I have ever made in my life. Too bad my line was no longer attached to it and it landed right in the center of the lake. First them this has ever happened to me. I hope it will be the last but everyone tells me it probably will not be.

Lets see your tackle collection
I love this topic. Nothing better than looking at peoples tackle. ;D There is always something I am missing. Here are a few of my favorites: First off a few spinnerbaits and jigs: I also have lots and lots of plastics. The most valuable piece of equipment I have is this homemade lure retriever. It allows me to not only retrieve my own lures from the trees but other peoples as well. ;D This is a pic of some lures I retrieved from a day around the lake.

Anybody know about the Scrounger head by A Martens??
Never once have I missed a fish because of the plastic piece. The plastic piece is very flexible, as for it being durable I have not had a problem with one yet.

What do you wear under your waders in the summer?
In the summer when the water is warm forget the waders. Swimsuit and muck boots is all you need.

Anybody know about the Scrounger head by A Martens??
I use these all the time and with great success. They come in sizes from 1/8 - 1 1/4 oz. They are not just for finess applications. Here is a link with a little bit of history on the scrounger http://www.aaronmartenslures.com/history.php here is a link to the video so you can see how they work
