  1. I'd love to buy lithium but the cost it prohibitive to me. Plus, I don't want to buy a separate charging system for it. So I'm stuck with a regular deep cycle battery. Apparently it's time to replace my existing battery as it's draining much quicker than it used to. Other than knowing its a 12v regular battery that drives my 45lb thrust MotorGuide TM, I can't tell you much about it but current AH may not be relevant. My question is this, "Is there a brand of battery that really stands out?" If I know which brand to start with, I can figure out the necessary AH and battery dimensions. Any brands to stay with? Any brands to avoid?
  2. Not fishing but....
  3. I took a friend fishing last Friday and, just after casting my worm, he had a malfunction that I needed to help him with. So, i set my rod in the bottom of the boat and rendered assistance. When i was through, I picked up my rod and it seemed hung on the bottom. So, I gave it a tug and whatever it was hung on started coming up....then it started going back down. I immediate set the the hook and the battle began. I was certain this was going to be my first double-digit bass and when I saw it coming up, i could see the pectoral fins waving in the dingy water. They were at least 6"- 8" apart and then I was convinced I was looking a record. A few more cranks of the reel and this is what I found: A snapping turtle with claws like razors. Caught on 20lb braid and a Watermelon/Red Flake Yumdinger rigged TR. I did manage to catch a few LMB's that day (8 all total) with these being the best of the bunch.
  4. I own a Maverick 88, 18” (made by Mossberg) that I love.
  5. The lake I fish says keep anything under 14" but I'm 98% C&R. The exceptions are if the fish is wounded or someone I know is wanting some to eat.
  6. That happened to me once. Had a nice shop setup and we moved. Ended up putting everything in storage with the notion I'd get it out when I needed it. That never happened. Ended up selling most of the bigger tools (table saw, miter, etc) and bought more guns ? Fortunately, we moved again and the new place had a shop so, over time I was able to replenish my tools (and still have the guns....LOL).
  7. I haven’t spent much time in the wood shop lately (been fishing a lot). Anyway, while fishing, I met someone who, in my book, is a real American hero. He served a total of 23 years in the Army; first in ‘nam, later in Iraq. He suffers from severe PTSD and between that and other health issues, has difficulty speaking. He’s a smart man; it just takes him a bit to form sentences. Anyway, I've been taking him fishing and spending time with him. He’s a very humble and giving person and the other day, he gave me some leftover poplar 2x2’s. I decided to give them back to him, though they have changed in appearance a bit. A charcuterie board a a couple of big coasters. I threw in some white oak for contrast.
  8. I fish the Yumdingers with no rings and just buy them in bulk.
  9. Congrats. That was so smooth that, If it weren't for your headgear moving, I'd have thought you were sitting still.
  10. What else you ‘posed ta do wit dem snags?
  11. Tom, FWIW, I find you to be one of the most knowledgeable members here. If you told me you caught a 35 lber, I'd ask what you caught it on. At my age (62), I feel like I've earned the right to state my piece and let others take from it what they will. At your age, well, respect is the word that comes to mind.
  12. As the fisherman said in the video, "Holy ......."
  13. Ditto to the comments above. I've always found the videos to be very informative and entertaining.... "We've got a customer" is an expression I particularly enjoy.
  14. I see what you did there ?
  15. I'm a blue for side and amber for down myself.
  16. Jerkbait A-rig Shaky Head or Net Rig
  17. I accept all bites, slack or tight.
  18. I've never heard of a War Eagle spinnerbait but, being an Alabama fan, it's probably illegal for me to use one ? Congrats on your PB.
  19. 5” Yumdinger. Watermelon with chartreuse tip on a Tokyo rig. 6lb, 5oz
