  1. When fishing from a dock, I directly target the sides of the dock, casting out along weed lines or tulies and such. Don't just directly cast out, look for weed lines and vegetation.
  2. I'm looking to make a "chug bug" and other top waters.. What type of wood is good to use this for? Can I go grab a branch out of my backyard? I'm looking for some very accessible wood for free or cheap.
  3. I just got a net due to the fact of losing too many 6+ lb bass at docks while trying to lip them.. I only use it on bass that are clearly over 4 or 5 lbs, anything less then that, I don't bother, because if they get off while trying to lip, it's not that bad.. But having a clear 8 or 10 lb bass , it's terrible to have them slip off while trying to lip the d**n thing. I've beat myself up too many times. I want to get a rubber net, but they're a bit pricey right now. I will get one sooner or later.
  4. Ok guys, I know this has been posted a MILLION times, but I can't find the d**n threads and I'm getting very frustrated.. I need a no memory, very sensitive line, so I'm going to try braid. I just got a stradic 2500 with a BPS Extreme rod so I'm ready to spool this bad boy up. It came with two spools, I was going to put braid with a fluoro or Mono Leader (WHICH ONE SHOULD I USE?) and the second spool I was going to put just 8 or 10lb XL mono. Please let me know if that sounds appropriate and what type of leader should I use? Anyone with that Gary Yamamoto write up about using a leader on braid could you please post it, I had it saved and lost it! Thanks guys.
  5. 5in wacky rigged *** 6in wacky rigged senko (Soon to be the 7in ***) Zoom Super Fluke Those are what put up the most numbers for me.
  6. Haha, yah, I'm not a morning person, although once I'm up and active in the morning, I love it. Goodluck on the delta, you'll have tons of fun! Are you gonna go to Clear Lake too? It's only a few hours away and well worth the trip. Hopefully, by september I'll have saved up enough to get some type of way to get out on the delta to fish, as of now I'm confined to my two little reservoirs, but it sucks having such nice places like the Delta, Berryessa and Clear Lake so near me. Thanks all, I'm getting even more excited, my bass pro order will be here today with my new stradic and extreme rod!
  7. Haha, eh nothing near the fish you catch, but was fun none the less. Maybe I have to make my way up to the Delta sometime and catch some real lunkers. I've been fishing same same reservoir near me, exclusively because I don't even have a car right now =\ Thanks guys. It was good to be out on the water, first time I've fished in the past 5 weeks, so it was good.
  8. Fishing early mornings, and dusk are my favorite times to fish. Middle of the day is typically a very slow time, although you can still catch fish.. Try and get there early morning or dusk, if not some people will have suggestions here what to throw during the day.. Senkos, SuperFlukes, DropShotting maybe, or topwaters are always fun in the summer. In general, especially this summer, it's very hot, and bass are a bit more sluggish especially during the hottest hours. Hope that helps a bit, there's great advice here. WELCOME! Hopefully someone can suggest good daytime stuff, I never fish the hottest times of the day so I can't help there. Goodluck!
  9. Get some of the Baby Bass from Mattlures.. Or some bluegill. The baby bass I believe are cheaper. I'm not sure, but I would think Braid would be the best bet so that you don't lose them.. Braid is tough as hell.. I understand that you don't want to spend so much on lures, I don't either! But if you want big bass, you gotta spend the money. It's definitely possible to catch 10lb bass on Senkos and such, but if you want to just target 10lbers and such, try the swimbaits.
  10. How's the XT junk work on 8lb line with spinning gear? Is it still stiff or not? I was just going to try XL 8 or 10lb but after reading how weak it is and breakable, I'm thinking else where...
  11. Throw swimbaits.. You'll catch a LOT LESS bass, but the quality is hard to beat.. Mattlures Swimbaits is a good place to start from what I've heard.. I am a quantity of quality (as long as they're over 2lbs), so I'm not real experienced with swimbaits, but have only heard great things.. It's very expensive to fish swimbaits, but I guess if you're looking for your first double digit bass and that is worth the money, go for it!
  12. Got out on a boat for my first time pretty much ever! Guy I met about a month or so ago at the same Res took me out and showed me a thing or two on the boat.. Best day fishing I've had in a while, if not best period. Was on the water by 7am (First time I've fished before noon, and first time I've been up that early in years). 25-30 Bass on the day, 8-10+ 2lb-3lb , I had 2 4lbers (well one was 3.15), he hooked a decent 6er BUT snapped his line right on the knot! He forgot to retie from a previous fishing trip on one of his rods. In a 30 minute span we caught about 6 of our 2-3lb bass one after the other. None the less, It was a great trip! I didn't take photos after the first few as we were having too much fun, but here's a couple.
  13. Great interview! I was wondering when you would slide that * info on there! Glad you did. haha. You've also convinced me 100% to get a jonboat now . Thanks LBH, and Glenn for posting this.
  14. Thanks LBH, and everyone else.. I'm leaning towards a john boat as of now, but will need to save a bit more.. But thank you very much! I have that article in my favorites ;D
  15. I catch decent size bullfrogs on top water frogs.. The frogs hide under topwater weeds and junk, and while i'm bringing the frog along the top, I see a bullfrog just leap out and get on top of that frog and hug'em. i wonder how the hook affects a frog as opposed to a fish being hooked.. anyone know if it does any damage ?
  16. Yamamoto Baits are not overrated, they catch tons of fish, and work amazing. BUT, that doesn't mean other "knock-offs" don't work JUST AS WELL.. I use ***, ***, and "Duper Flukes", and other plastics from there.. I've caught MORE fish on the ProtoType Duper Flukes then I do with the Zoom Super Flukes, AND I've caught the same amount of fish and noticed NO DIFFERENCE with the Senko style baits.. In fact, my BIGGER fish have came off of the *** version.. Not to mention, a bag of 50 for $10 is a MUCH better deal then a bag of 8 or however many for $5.. In the end, some will agree with me, and some will disagree, but honestly, it's what you feel confident with! Go try 3-5 knock-off baits, and see what you find out. Because until you try it for yourself, it's just other people saying what THEY LIKE.
  17. I have a no name, plastic tackle box that's quite small and a plastic bag with other goodies inside. The box holds: 4 Bags of Zoom Super Flukes 3 Bags of *** Trick Sticks 1 Bag of zoom horny toads 1 chart/white spinnerbait 2 Top water frogs 4/0 and 5/0 hooks and some wacky rigging hooks That's it, yes it all fits, but barely.. The other 10 bags of baits that I carry on any trip are stuffed in a plastic bag.. Both the tackle box, and plastic bag, both go into my backpack (I fish from shore and this makes it easy!).
  18. Either get bigger hooks, or smaller worms.
  19. Wacky has produced the most and best fish this past spring. For that reason, I fish wacky almost exclusively when it comes to senkos.
  20. I'm looking for a way for my girlfriend and I both to be able to get mobile in the water instead of on shore.. I've been thinking about tubes, but my girlfriend doesn't like the idea of being in water all that much.. What other options are there, and what websites sell tubes in case I were to go that route... Any other suggestions that don't involve towing something behind the car...?
  21. I say burley is onto something. If you liked your previous shimano, get another. I just ordered a Stradic 2500 with a BPS Extreme rod for $139.99 on BPS.Com, The reel is usually $120 I believe, and the rod is usually $70 or $100. So you're getting a decent rod for $20.
  22. I love using top waters right when the sun starts to go down till dark. Before that I use Senkos (Go to your store and get some Gary Yamamoto Senkos), Start with 5in and then you could also try 6in. Stick an octopus hook or something of the same shape through the middle of the worm. When you cast it, watch your line for any irregular twitches or if you feel any taps. 90% of the fish I catch doing this, are on the cast while it falls for the first time. You can also Trig the worm... Other things you can try are Rat-L-traps, Spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits (again top water fun!). It's very effective, and pretty easy to do. It has produced the most fish for me the past few months. Hope that helps, they'll be plenty of other people to come in here and help, and there's tons of fishing articles on this site at the top left. Goodluck!
  23. Taking two rods with a backpack is quite easy. That way you can carry a rod in each hand, and put one down to cast, OR carry two with one hand. Have two totally different types of baits tied on though. That way you can fish every spot with two different techniques.. I walk around with a Zoom Superfluke on one, and a wacky rigged senko on the other.. Those are my two most productive baits. Put your two confidence baits on each rig, and you're set. That way you save re-tying your two fav baits over and over again.
  24. I had ONE berkeley rod at the start of spring. First fish I set the hook on, the top cork piece of the handle cracked and slid off.. Didn't buy another. Maybe I just had a bad experience.
  25. I bring 1-2 combos, and a backpack with plastics and other baits.
