  1. I mean you could do it with the 4-runner. We're similar here- end of culdesac and my yard is the 'straight' when they push the snow up the road. On top of that, the plows don't just end at the road. After the bulk of a storm is done, they come back with front loaders and get the snow off of the road- and pile it on the yard. I still have a bare spot the size of a sheet of plywood from 3 winters ago where the salt burned it. Nothing grows there now, not even weeds. I'll dig it out and replace the soil one day, but the snow piles will continue so maybe not. I had a 10' high wall of snow from my driveway to my neighbors. It's starting to melt, but it will be a while. When we have the snow storms I'm fortunate to have big blower so I clear the patches in front of my and my neighbor's driveways in real time. @Swamp Girl - I think you're on the right path with a sign and a conversation over a gifted bottle. You're in a small place where I presume everyone knows everyone. I'm sure it isn't malicious that they are piling it there. It looks like a driveway that doesn't lead to a house and doesn't harm anyone having it there. It was probably being piled there long before you bought the property and they just don't know the impact. Certainly for future snow events I'm sure you can find a solution. It doesn't help the mound you have there now though. Is the current mound crusted and a solid ice? If not, you might be able to get them to push it further down the driveway and then off the to side gradually. That would at least get you access. Not sure how feasible that is but worth a shot.
  2. I typically start reading from the last unread and go from there but if you click into a post and want to go to the end, there is a >> next to the page numbers of the thread that takes you to the last page.
  3. You have seen @A-Jay ’s box, right? 😉
  4. If you tighten it down and then it loosens that sounds like stripped threads.
  5. Elaztec neds I will give a couple good stretches and squeeze them a bit. That knocks some of the salt out and they float a little better. Otherwise nope. Maybe split a tail on a trick worm with scissors to have two little tails.
  6. I love that brown trout pic. Every time you pull it out. I have a target this year to catch a laker. They are in a couple lakes here but the big lake I spent a lot of time in last year has so many that they raised the daily limit to promote taking more out. They are open water cruisers so it will be a FFS scenario I'm sure. Pretty sure I had one chasing last year but the wind was so bad I couldn't keep up with it on the screen.
  7. I assume you're talking about the casting version. I would take a wild guess that they took their 7'1" spinning blank and built it with casting components. The 1/8-3/8 spec is indicative of a L spinning rod, but they have put M on the label which implies a bit of butt to it. That's not unheard of in a spinning rod- really light tip, extra fast action, transitioning into power lower down. If that's all true, it could just be what you want- something to throw a true 1/4 oz or so reasonably well. You'll need to have a reel that can handle it and the appropriate line (I'd be looking at 10 lb supernatural or similar). But I'd want to put hands on the rod before I bought it to check all that out.
  8. If you have a good outboard mechanic handy I'd also have them give it a once over, clean it up, tune it up, and be good. You could try a thing here or a thing there and it probably just needs a good clean and tune. A mechanic will be the shortcut to getting it done once and right. Past that, since it is a new to you, I'd replace the fuel filters, lines, and fittings so you know the progeny on them. Pinholes and cracks will kill you for keeping the lines air tight. I'd also run some fuel stabilizer and carb cleaner through the tank that you have now until it's gone. Again, safety for what you don't know.
  9. If you want a heavier wire on the blade, the berkley fusion heads are nice. they look good in the water and they come through grass decently well, even modest summer grass. Just have to stay on top of the hook sharpness. They are a normal wire for a 3/0 hook which is to say that a light rod doesn't have the oomph to get a good hookset unless the points are sticky sharp. I fish them on a MH baitcaster so no issue there. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Berkley_Fusion19_Underspin/descpage-FNU.html?from=basres
  10. They just listed a bunch of megabass vault items in case you're not on the emails. I didn't see avocado but I also didn't look that hard.
  11. Last night I stepped out with the dogs around 8 PM and it was still 28 (had warmed all day). I actually commented out loud how not cold it was. 28 with no wind after 5 and 25 mph for what seemed like eternity was a breath of fresh air. A hoodie was enough to stand outside for a couple minutes with the dogs- no need for down parkas. Imagine my surprise when I check the forecast this morning and the next 10 days has a high almost every day that starts with a 4! If the weekend snow/freezing rain keeps shift the way it has the past 24 hours it won't even affect us. Mid 40's and sunny, 45 with rain showers, a little breeze all the time- that's the stuff that opens lakes up. I suspect we have a lot of ice to go given how cold it was, but a week of this will have me taking a ride to check out the progression.
  12. well, she called. Surprised the heck out of me, but she did. That's the good news. The bad news is that she doesn't have insurance. She said she'll pay cash for it so I'm going to get a quote and hope she picks up the phone when I call her back. On a more pertinent note (to this thread) there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. The current arctic blast is going to end today and we're going to start seeing highs around 40 for a couple days. And next week we're going to have highs in the mid 40s with the lows above freezing. That should help a bunch. We just have to get through the forecasted 6" of snow and half inch of freezing rain this coming weekend. 🤦‍♂️
  13. I love my head turner for what you’re describing. The Cara swim jig rod is my usual for swim jigs, but that rod is 7’2” so longer than say you want. The head turner at 6’10” is a great 3/8-1/2 oz swim jig rod. It was originally designed as a shorter jig pitching rod and if I’m throwing a swim jig around docks or lots of obstructions (standing timber) I’ll reach for the head turner to buy me some space. Not sure if a Cara is high end enough for what you’re thinking but I wouldn’t rule it out.
  14. Just do it. I had a long enough cord on mine that I just clipped it around my ankle and never knew it was there. I stood to fish and that was the most convenient place for it.
  15. It’s cabin fever. I just want to get out too. I have two bait habits that get me this time of year. 1- I tried something new and it works so I immediately need a half dozen colors/sizes/variants of them. 2- I watch someone catching fish a certain way and immediately see myself doing that on my own lakes so now I need that thing. Watching the pros on Guntersville the past two days I’m itching to throw a trap now. That said, I’ve started to slow down on the ‘new’ and settle into what actually works for me. I’m not done organizing lures yet, but I think I’ll take more out of the boat than I’m putting in. My only tricky part is that i have 3 very different types of lakes around and that’s forces a few things bait wise and I don’t want to take things in and out of the boat.
  16. Not sure if you’re fishing it Koz, but one of the local kayak bass guys that fishes the NJ trail is in third place right now with 185” (20 fish) including a 23” hog.
  17. With as many big fish as he’s pulled out of there every day I wouldn’t move either.
  18. I had the autopilot kayak which is a power drive based motor and I had the big remote with it. It was at least 50 yards of range. Could have been more. But for the scenario you’re talking about it shouldn’t work. You should have a kill switch clipped to you so that if you fall over the boat isn’t going anywhere. On the autopilot it was built in next to the seat. Not sure on other motors.
  19. @gim - we have a tesla. Sentry mode has 5 cameras capturing live imaging when triggered. Four exterior cameras and the one by the rearview mirror. The passenger side camera is on the front quarter panel looking backwards so you can see it all perfectly. This is the moment of impact, but I have the video of it happening and hitting. Also the video of her closing the door again. Then opening it to get out, seeing the damage, making a face, and walking away. For clarity, the upper right corner is my passenger mirror and the camera is looking straight back along my car on the right side. Her door is now open 90 degrees. This is right before that by a half second.
  20. I think we’re actually colder than A-Jay for once. Our wind chill forecast for tonight and tomorrow is -21 to -23. We are sitting on a real 3 outside and dropping a few more tonight with 20-25mph solid winds. It’s just stupidly cold. On top of it being stupidly cold, people are being stupid in the cold. Trees are falling all over the place blocking roads. Snow is drifting across roads and making slippy spots (and that’s going to get really bad tonight). People are doing stupid stuff on the road anyway and there are more accidents happening now than when we had 4” of snow on the road. And to top it off, someone broke our mirror in the Costco parking lot and walked off. No note. We have her on video doing it and I have her plate. I left her a note with my number and to get in touch. I’ll be calling the insurance on Monday with her info.
  21. I follow Ajay’s logic on this one- a long leader. then the knot is on the spool when the fish is boat side. Doesn’t matter what’s tied on the end. Also, that’s fewer leaders you have to tie in a season and less chance of having to tie one on the water. It also means if you get snagged you can probably reach the leader to pull on it rather than pulling from the braid, ergo no chance of snapping at the leader knot. I normally go with 20’ or so (about 4 fully stretched out arm lengths.
  22. That’s a great deal. I need a couple boxes, but not enough to make it worth an order though. I wish we had an academy around here.
  23. @JediAmoeba I too really hate the whine of DC reels on camera. I couldn’t stand throwing one in person. I noticed that in some of Jacob wheelers videos on the tube as well. He uses one occasionally (crankbaits I think). I watched the broadcast version this morning and that’s some wild conditions to be catching as many 5#+ fish as they are that shallow. Low 40’s water and some of those fish are eating. Makes me excited for next month.
  24. I agree with Ajay’s logic but then I don’t follow it personally. I’m only using leaders on spinning gear and I’m not going through that much of it. I tried sunline FC leader some time ago and it’s been fantastic for me. I’ve had 10# wrapped up in grass and pad stems with fish hooked on with no scuffs on the line whatsoever. I landed an 8 lb striper on 6 lb (to be fair, open water) last year. It’s been really good to me, so I’m not changing any time soon. And, I like the smaller spools for space savings (my boat is small). I carry 5/6/8/10 and it takes up about the same amount of space as one spool of big game.
  25. I keep a pretty tight ship on the boat, especially since it’s a smaller boat with not a ton of room. I definitely have a very dirty mind. Organized, but dirty…
