Bassmaster University ?
What do you all think of the intermediate one? There will be one held about 10 min. from my house in Olathe KS. Van Dam and Iconelli are on the list to be there. Not sure who else... I would say I know quite about about bass fishing and their movement, habits, etc. I'm somewhat afraid that it would be a waste of money beacuse it may be all common knowledge stuff to me. I'd choose a Master series but there's none on the list by me.

10 baits only
That's a tough one, I'll take a stab at it, in no favorable order: 1.) 5" green pumpkin senko 2.) 1/2 oz. white/chartruse spinnerbait 3.) pearl white bandit 200 crankbait 4.) firetiger bandit 200 crankbait 5.) 5/16 oz. brown jig w/ trailer 6.) white buzzbait w/ gold blade 7.) 4" watermelon/ red flake tube 8.) green pumpkin baby brush hog 9.) chartruse blue back bandit 200 crankbait 10.) chartruse blue back DD-22 That's probably not my top 10 baits but for a tourney I think it gives a pretty good selection for anything you may incounter. I'm not too comfortable with dropshot but if you are I'd definatly add that in there. I'm a bit partial to green pumpkin but I changed the color of the jig and tube for a little more variety

what makes a pond a pond and a lake a lake
I had believed a lake was a body of water that had a water source flowing into it. Any water source: river, stream, underground spring, etc. In that case a pond has no imcoming water (besides rain). To me that would seem like a good rule of thumb but I can't argue with a book either.

Plastic baits and fish health
When a bass has a plastic around its extremities, leave it there!! The females have become very demanding for safe sex

College division of ABA
The more teams the better! Univ. of Illinois-Urbana has a team. Cujo, I see your from Tennessee, Univ. of Tenn. has a team as well. Will- My home district is 61, but I also fish some tourneys in district 66 and 58. I try to fish Grand (district 65) once or twice a year as well. You have to pick a home district just for reference purposes but it doesn't mean you have to only fish those tourneys. Your points are based on your 4 best 1 day tourneys and your single best 2 day tourney combined from any amount of districts. Just if you all are interested, heres a link to a list of all the college teams as of the beginning of this season http://www.americanbassanglers.com/castschools.php

Tie on or snap swivel?
In the areas where a swivel would help cause better action I would recomend just using the rapala knot instead. When tied correctly it just ends in a loop with the actual knot a 1/2" to 1" above the lure, which really helps allow for free movement better.

brush piles
I've been using limbs cut from elm's trees forever on the lake I live on and they work great. I haven't noticed a certain species holding to a specific type of brushpile yet. I have noticed it only takes a day or two for bass to start holding in the piles once they are placed. I placed all my brushpiles in a way so that fish follow a path and end up staying in a certain area more. So far its been very successful. This is my first year placing the piles in such a pattern and in return it has been my most successful yr on this lake in over 15 yrs.

Dry bags
Besides fishing I'm also a big kayaker. I'm all equipped for long journeys in the yak so I've made sure to have some quality dry bags. I have 3 Sealine drybags. 2 large yellow ones a a small clear one. The great thing about the dry bags is that you'll never have to worry about them opening on accident, also they are made of heavyduty material that will resist ripping and other road rash very well. I would have ended up with alot of lost and broken equipment without them.

College division of ABA
Yea, it really is a great setup. Hopfully one will be started at KU eventually. Pitt st. and butler county recently started up teams.

any oklahomans???
Almost_A_Pro, where are you planning on going to college? I've got a friend at Univ Of Tulsa and he is trying to put together a Univ. team to fish in American Bass Anglers. The ABA has a special division for college teams that compete against eachother. Its a great way to get alot of tournament experience for very cheap (we don't have to pay entry fees).

College division of ABA
I was just curious if there were any other college anglers in here that fish in the CAST (Collegiate Angler Scholarship Tour) division of American Bass Anglers? I fish for Kansas State Univ.

Any ever use hotdogs?
I put a drop line out once for catfish with a hotdog on the end of it, and it wasn't 1 min. after I dropped it into the water that a bass nailed it. I too have no reason why a bass would hit it, but from my experience a bass with hit some crazy things.

screw Gary Y.
I guess I'll pick my side as well: Due to the fact that I catch just as many fish on an imitation senko as I do the real thing, my wallet told me to do the sensible thing and go with the imitation. That's all, don't think for 1 sec I'm going to write out a long explanation as to why I feel the way I do, I'm afraid I'd get eaten in this topic, its harsh in here!!

Who do you go after for a sponsor and why?
The reasons I stated for seeking sponsorship (discounted tackle, financial help) were my personal reasons. I ask myself "what can the sponsor do for me" in order to find the type of sponsor I would want to look for. Then, when I get in touch with them I only let them know what's in it for them and then let them bring up my benefits.

building brushpiles
A major advantage about PVC is that it lasts alot longer than a limb brushpile. I read that a typical limb brushpile starts to rot out and disperse within 1 year. I would recommend placing piles in area with little structure. A large flat or something. I put a few brushpiles in the lake I live on early this year which has very little cover to begin with. It wasn't long before fish started holding in the piles, lots of fish, and some big ones too.

Who do you go after for a sponsor and why?
When I started out looking for sponsors I aimed at small fishing companies so first off I could get sponsored and secondly, get some discounted tackle. I got on board with a couple companies but to me there's only a certain amount of small tackle companies I can handle. After 2 small companies I then aimed for a big time company such as Shimano or Diawa that could actually save me some huge money or a firm outside of the fishing industry that could help out finacially. I ended up finding an engineering recuriter that has done wonders for my fishing career so far. He's not in ther fishing industry what so ever but he's more than willing to pay for anything I need as long as I use my connection with the Kansas State Engineering Dept. to his advantage

Tubes Vs Jigs
In murky water I'd be more apt to tie on a jig whereas in clear water I'd go for a tube.

Small Soft Plastic Bait Company
I bought from many different small companies this year looking for the best senko hand pour. Most small companies senko wasn't very soft and didn't even compare to the real senko until I found ghostbaits.com, They hake awesome stuff. Its by far the softest stuff I've ever used. Their senko is practically identical to the GYCB senko. He also makes great sweet beavers in the same sizes that the real ones come in, 3.5, 4.2 and 5". I would strongly recommend you try them out. The prices are great as well. He's a good guy and will customize your stuff any way you'd want it.

hair vs plastic
A website I order lots of plastics from is starting to make "hybrid jigs" as I will call them. They have hair on the inside and a plastic skirt over the hair. Very interesting. I'm giving them a try.

Locating Summer Bass
Oh yea I know where Hays is. I hear that Cedar Bluff is a good lake to fish but I haven't been out there yet. Nicely put together Cullum. I'll give it a try. Thanks for all the tips and in depth detail. Helps a lot!!

Locating Summer Bass
I was wondering where prime spots are on lakes to find bass In July/ August? Do you find them where you caught them in pre spawn or do they go to deeper water? I'm in Kansas so the water temp is quite high. The air temp has been going up to 90 for about 2 or 3 soild weeks now. I'll be fishing Milford Lake in North Central KS. It has a good population of both LM and SM Bass. Is the summer time pattern the same as Spring: Points, drop offs, cover? I am just not sure weather I should head back to the spots I caught them at in the Spring or should I find new spots for this time of year?

The Secret Pond
I love small lake fishing. I live on a lake that sounds a lot like what you described. There are 6 houses around this lake and of all of them; my family is the only one who fishes the lake. The size makes it perfect. With a smaller lake it's big enough to where you can fish it 7 days a week and have plenty of action but small enough to where you get to know the lake structure extremely well and can almost follow the bass movement and find where they are located at certain times of the year without too much trouble. Make sure the bass population stays in check though. We used to have troubles with our lake getting too high of a bass population and in result stunts the bass growth and you end up with thousands of 10" fish.
