  1. Hey, thanks for the info guys. I should find out more about my new assignment in the next week or so. I received a message that I am being sent to VA to be an ROTC instructor, but I don't know which school yet. I hate to leave this good Texas fishing, but I am excited to check out the east coast fishing scene. Thanks again, Steve.
  2. I found out this week that I may be moving to Virginia this summer. I'm not sure where yet and I've never even been to that part of the country. What are some of the more popular bass fishing lakes in VA? Just trying to get an idea about what to expect out there. Any info about VA bass fishing would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve.
  3. G-Blanks! You won't find a better price on a custom rod.
  4. I have three Magnisium TS rods, but I don't have a jig rod. I have a crankbait rod, a spinnerbait rod, and a finesse spinning rod and they are all very nice. Kistler also has great customer service as I found out recently when a rod I ordered was damaged in shipping.
  5. When I was a kid and Dad took us crappie fishing, we always had to throw the first one back.
  6. I had what would have been my personal best halfway in the net when it threw the hook and disappeared. I thought I was going to puke. I tried to convince myself that she wasn't that big, but my buddy kept going on about how huge she was. That was shortly before I left for Iraq and I've spent over a year dreaming about that fish.
  7. Not trying to be difficult but how does changing the length of the handle change the ratio at all?? The spool will still only rotate 7.1 times for every one turn of the handle regardless of length. That's a function of gearing alone. I was wondering the same thing!
  8. I am a huge fan of G-Blanks rods.
  9. I must have missed the Iaconelli post. What thread was it in?
  10. I'm with the "use the reel that balances best" crowd. I have one seven foot rod with a Stradic 4000 because that is what felt right on that rod. Yes, there are other ways to adjust the balance, but I prefer to buy a reel that fits right in the first place.
  11. My favorite is the Ugly Stik comercial where the wife sticks her husbands rod in the trash compacter. Kinda reminds me of my ex-girlfriend. Notice I said "ex"!
  12. I'm glad you brought this up. Like most everyone else here, I usually stick with natural colored soft plastics like watermelon and green pumpkin. I have no problem throwing a chartreuse spinnerbait or a fire tiger crankbait, but I never use these colors with soft plastics. When do you put on an orange, yellow or pink worm? I know someone is using them because you can buy them anywhere.
  13. While I was in Iraq, I had my mail fowarded to my mother's house. Each month she sent me a care package and it always contained my Bassmaster magazine. In September she bought a new home and I noticed that I stopped getting Bassmaster. Last month when I returned to the States, I called B.A.S.S. and gave them my new address and I asked for a new membership card. I also explained that since my mom had moved I was no longer getting my subscription. Today when I checked my mail, there was an envelope with my new B.A.S.S. membership card and a package with all the magazines back to September. Thanks, B.A.S.S.! Now I'll be up all night reading!
  14. X2 I have three Kistler Magnesium TS rods and I wouldn't think of trading any of them for a Carrot Stix.
  15. Spinnerbaits have always been one of my favorite baits. I'm currently using a Kistler Magnesium TS, Alton Jones spinnerbait special, 6'6" MH/F with a Revo S. I fish a lot of spinnerbaits and I would suggest a combo similar to this.

  17. I chose a Curado 300 for my swimbait rod because I prefer low profile reels. I haven't used it for any huge lures, but it performs well with the mid-size swimbaits.
  18. Remington 870! I had one for many years. It may not be the perfect gun for any one thing, but it's pretty darn good for everything!
  19. G Blanks are awesome! I have seven of them including a swimbait rod.
  20. Well, you beat me to it. I was going to say that it's a Small Munsterlander. I'm a bit of a bird dog guy myself (hence the screen name).
  21. The clubs I've been in were always in need of nonboaters. It just seems like most of the club members had boats and, of course, they wanted to compete as boaters. Go ahead and check them out. Chances are you will be welcomed to fish as a nonboater. I also think that as a beginner you can learn more in one season as a nonboater than you will in several seasons going at it alone.
  22. I was wondering the same thing.
  23. When do you use a seven foot leader? I have a hard time casting anything over about three feet.
