  1. Picked up an Old 18 Authentic 6'6 UUL casting rod during Christmas. I'm zipping out a 1/32nd roadrunner with a donkey tail jr pretty far.
  2. Like the guy above said, don't limit it to crappie duty, that's on the lower side of bfs that I was talking about using an UUL rod with 1/32nd ounce roadrunners. I also have Light powered rods for 1/16 to 1/8th weight roadrunners and t-rigged worm weights (the baits add a little weight). You could even pair the reel with a ML. I use a ML for 1/8th to 3/8ths. All of these baits I catch good size bass mixed in with crappie and dink bass. Try a 1/16th ounce roadrunner with a Zman shad FryZ and you'll be hooked.
  3. Tackle tour has something similar. Where they use a Loomis MBR as the standard then when they test a new rod they compare it's deflection to the MBR and other rods. The MBR was the standard when they started years ago, now they have enough data for averages
  4. You could probably try one of the AliExpress rods under $100. They get good reviews like the ace hawk venom rods. For baits I know some people use BFS in different ways. I use it for bass and crappie and pretty much use it as a scaled down version of standard bass rigs. Micro t-rigs, micro cranks, and micro swimbaits on underspins. if you were really wanting to try wacky rigs, I just picked up moondog bait companies finesse stick baits. They work great. Essentially a micro senko. But they're really light and probably need an UL rod. I use an Old 18 Authentic 6'6 UUL to cast them wacky rigged and 1/32nd ounce roadrunner with a donkey tail jr
  5. Sawgrass rods makes a casting version of the drop shot rod and the specs match up with a Light power. It's not a G Loomis, but a NFC blank, so close enough. I was going to get one but I was more interested in my next rod being an UL for crappie so I picked up the 6'6 Authentic last week. I kind of think Loomis would make a casting version of a DS rod before marketing it as a BFS rod.
  6. Very nice review. The Omen Gold was on my list of rods to try out for drop shot but I was able to pick up a Avid Walleye. Then during the summer I picked up a Defy Silver 7 ft light and I've had great success with it during the fall crappie bite. So I've been thinking about going with 13 fishing for more L and ML rods.
  7. Thanks for the response. Sounds good for what I was looking for
  8. Does your friend by chance use the 7'2 MHM for chatterbaits? I've been thinking about getting that Meta for CBs and wondering how it would work. I think they recommend the 7'4 glass as the CB rod but I was wanting to stick with graphite. On a side note: I've been using a defy silver spinning rod for crappie and bass this fall and it's been amazing. I picked up the 7' Light 2 PC on clearance for $36. So I've been interested in picking up more 13 fishing rods.
  9. Daiwa SS Air (the newer one) ALX Aura 6'10 L 4 lb sniper I heard the ALX had a fat hands grips so I was worried about that. But the benefit so far is there's no reel seat flex under load. I hooked a huge buffalo and didn't notice any flex.
  10. Whichever rod you pick out, pick out a super smooth reel. I picked up a 7'4 LTB last winter and its main reel is a 6.3 Bantam (I switch to higher gears for bottom contact duties). I forget how heavy the combo is and how much of a chore it is dealing with how stiff it is because the reel is just a dream to crank all day. I throw Colorado blade spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and fish horny toads like a reaction/jerk bait.
  11. Thanks for the response
  12. Hello, would you say the action is slow enough to use with treble hook baits like micro crank baits? I've been trying to decide on a BFS rod to use with crankbaits.
  13. 8lb should be fine if it's not too heavy of cover. But that's like good fc like sniper or invisx. I go up to 12 on my MH 4000 combos but that's with a lot of OCD spinning reel tricks I do to mitigate any issues.
  14. Legalis, Exceler, or Fuego. They'll be lighter than the BG. Legalis has a hex handle, Exceler and Fuego have screw in handles. The current Exceler and fuegosl models are discounted because they have newer models coming out in October.
  15. Yeah the walleye is hard to describe. Just the tip is soft, but like you mentioned goes into power fast. I was asking because I was thinking about getting a longer rod so I can use the 6'8 with a open hook and smaller baits. Then run the longer rod with a cover shot hook. So I didn't know if the avid walleye and victory had the same actions
  16. OP is the tip a little bouncy on the victory? I'm not sure how to describe it lol. I picked up a 6'8 MF Avid walleye a few months ago from a guy that said it was pretty much the victory blank with slightly different grips. But he didn't mention action. The tip is a little bouncy compared to my other MF powered rods. So my guess was that the walleye rods were different actions from the victory's. For open hook drop shot it's been good.
  17. SS Air and ALX Aura It's my first ALX rod so I'm looking forward to trying it out
  18. Most of my orders have been through digitaka. Takes like 3 days at the most. I ordered the new SS Air through Plat after it was sold out. Thought there was going to be a shipment in July of new stock from Daiwa but it was delayed. So the owner of the shop worked with a daiwa sales rep to locate a reel in a different prefecture. Edit: the SS Air also arrived in 3 days after it shipped.
  19. I use both spinning and casting for the light stuff. After reading comments on here about spinning gear I realized I'm proficient with the egg beaters. I just saw TW has the Phenix classic BFS rod in both spinning and casting so I'm already planning to get both.
  20. I was thinking about getting the 1000S spool for my zillion but now I'm thinking about trying the 1012 instead.
  21. Gotta keep those boxes so you can stack them against the wall on a desk to use as your YouTube video background. Though my plan for YouTube video background is to joke about everyone's fishing wall background. My plan is to use a green screen and then add an endless fishing warehouse like it's my background.
  22. I had a TFO skeeter H but I feel it was more of a MH. Now I have a St croix LTB H frog and slosh. It has kind of a soft tip for casting frogs but the tip ends fast and goes into a stout backbone. I use it for frogs, big spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and if I don't have my MH with me it works fine as a big t rig rod. I was amazed by the sensitivity for such a big rod. I was casting a sweet beaver one time and got a bad overrun. I could still feel a bite in the middle of pulling out the overrun.
  23. If you're looking for a good chatterbait and square bill rod from academy you could check out the dobyns colt 734. It's rated on the stick as fast but it's slower. I just watched a video by a pro staff guy talking about the different 734c rods. The colt has a little bit of fiberglass in it so it has a slower action. Not the crank bait model, but the regular 734c.
  24. When I first started my dad would just give me one of his 202s or 404s to use. Then when we would go to the sporting goods store I would see this small Daiwa spincast combo that was plastic wrapped on a piece of cardboard. The reel was gold color to me so I would call it a gold cast. Asked my dad every week for one till he got it for me. It was probably meant for light line and bluegills. But my dad would spool up all my reels with heavier line so I wouldn't break off. Then he'd put a hook on it for either minnows or catfish bait. So I would catch bigger fish than what it was rated. Fished it till I blew out the gears lol
