  1. I switch the handle to the right side on all of my spinning reels. I started fishing spinning reels when I was a kid and all we used were the Shimano IX or FX reels. Similar with old Penn spinning reels for surf rods. They felt like 3 to 1 ratio with a very low IPT and no bearings. So it was just easier to reel with your right. My Dad would switch the handles when I was a kid then to keep things consistent I just continued to reel with the right when I got nicer reels.
  2. I'm not sure how the 6's are but I like the 4's on my gen 1 and 2 MGX. Once I get it dialed in I can cast pretty smoothly.
  3. If you look up some of the 1st Gen MGX information there's a guy that figured out how to safely remove the arms. I have a 1st gen and a 2nd but I've been too afraid to remove them lol http://fishinglifestyle.net/2012/01/abu-garcia-revo-mgx-icast-best-freshwater-reel-review/ Lower in the review
  4. If you watch some Eliasfishing videos he shows how much of a beating the Fuego can take. Then there's a video where tackle advisors does a teardown of the reel. I don't know much about Pflugers or bash them. I would like to try one of the cheaper Pflugers that people like.
  5. Thanks for the review, I've been thinking about getting one of the gen 5s or Zenon. I like the photo comparison, the new frame looks interesting.
  6. 7'4 LTB H F Bantam 6.2 FC I started with a inshore lite spinning rod and Lew's G2 I fish horny toads a little different. I cast at banks where the bass are waiting for frogs to get scared and jump in and retrieve like a swimbait. I use FC because they hit like a freight train
  7. I may be wrong but the way I think of it is like a rear end on a sports car. If the bigger reel has a bigger gear set with the right material and design it can handle more abuse. But the torque and power is in the ratio. Like a shorter gear like the 5 to 1's have more torque
  8. Everything has been great with it so far. It casts well and the guides have been nice. My favorite part is how soft the cork is. It's been a little weird getting used to how light it is and how it balances because of how light the tatula is. I've only caught a few dinks on a drop shot and Ned rig so far so haven't been able to see how it handles the bigger bass. I'll report back once I catch some more fish with it.
  9. For the smaller drop shot style hooks for nose hooking I use 5 lb sniper since you don't really need to set the hook, you just reel into it. Then for finesse cover shot hooks when Trigging I use 8 lb so I can set the hook a little.
  10. The new Tatula MQ came out recently. I saw a few videos on it and it sounds interesting. The weight went up slightly over the LT but it has the new AirDrive. I don't mind the increase in weight if the reel feels smoother. I think it's less marketing that got me and more the bait monkey lol
  11. I have a JDM Tatula LT 2500 shallow spool for my drop shot rod. I think in the US market they just offer the 3000 with a Shallow option. I use straight Fluoro so with the shallow spool I can just use straight main line and not need a backing. I plan to get some more Shallow spool options. I've seen some JDM Shimano reels, and the new Tatula MQ might have some Shallow spool options.
  12. Outside of bass fishing with lures I use a mix of spinning and casting for other species. Catfish, carp, stripers, inshore, so I really never thought of spinning tackle as finesse only so I could get by using spinning only for bass. I've also gone through phases where my best tackle were spinning so I did use only spinning for bass. I get the warm and fuzzies (tackle advisors) from both casting and spinning so I don't think I could switch to one or the other, but I might go in phases where I have more than the other. Right now for bass fishing I do have more casting reels, but overall for all species I have way more spinning rigs.
  13. PLine CX copoly works well on spinning reels or even the new basix, it's supposed to be a full fluorocarbon but it has a lot of copoly character so it works well on my spinning reels. I have a 7 ft ML tfo professional with a 3000 Sahara running 6 lb basix and it's been working fine
  14. Yeah, I used to marry rods and reels for life. But I started watching more of the reel review youtubers and saw how they had either a collection of reels, or a collection of rods. It made me think maybe I'm not getting the most out of each reel or each rod. So now I switch them for different purposes
  15. Changing reels on rods is the best thing I started doing. 8.1 on my 7'4 H for some techniques, then I'll switch it out with a 6.3 to throw big spinnerbaits with swimbait trailers.
  16. I've been using it as beater line because of the price. I used CCX for awhile and decided to give Basix a try. The only problem I have with it is it breaks easy when I get hung up
  17. I picked up my first St croix rods recently and been impressed so far. LTB and an Avid walleye (same blank as the victory). I'll for sure be planning to try other models.
  18. Now I need to pick up a Medium LTB for some gators
  19. I ordered a Scott martin TCS okima rod and it came in 2 square boxes taped together. 2 of the guides towards the tip was bent. So I returned it
  20. Haven't been able to try out my new Bantam and LTB rod much till yesterday. No Bass with frogs but I caught a 2.5 to 3 ft longnose gar and a fresh water drum. Good to know if I want to take this set up inshore fishing it'll handle reds.
  21. 7 M Ugly Stik Inshore lite spinning rod with a lews G2 spinning reel. Its my favorite beater rod. Its tough as nails but transmits bites really well. Really stiff 3/4 of the rod with a whippy tip. So the bites feel like "badummmmmm"
  22. I use it for line to line knots
  23. I want to get a gen 5 or a zenon, or even one of the new spinning reels but with the JDM thing going on I've been getting JDM reels. I wouldn't mind trying to get the BFS Zenon since its at JDM prices, but I'll probably get the new SS Air first. Or I'll wait till I can get a decent deal on my local forum, last year I picked up some MGX's for 100 each.
  24. I'm going to have to check mine for the same problem lol. I swapped mine to the right as soon as I got it without trying the left side.
  25. Same for me lol I fish some shady places so I bring my ugly stiks and lightning rod shock more often than my nicer rods. But this year I've been trying to use my nicer rods more often. But the shady places have the best fishing usually?
