  1. I can relate to the braid to fluorocarbon leader. I can relate to reading water is everything on the river. I would have added jet boats are life And learning what the river gauge means for your fishing.
  2. I check the weather channel app and the river gauge. I plan my day from there. I have my guide lines in my head I follow.
  3. I will only do this if I set the rod down to get a drink then pick it right back up to use again. That would drive me insane. It also makes me tweak s little when people run the bait right up to their top eyelet. It also makes me shake my head when they actually hook a guide and not use the keeper. At least use the structural part of the guide.
  4. It might not be social media. You just might be in a funk in general from not fishing. I have lost a lot of ambition and motivation that I am not right now. I’ve been doing the bare minimum with most things. Fishing for me has been the reward after a hard and stressful week of work. Places like BR fill that gap in-between the fishing trips. it also makes it worse knowing you could be fishing but, other issues are keeping you from it. My big fear is I’m not going to get out till next spring. My wife had also noted I am much more irritable. Instead of having a short fuse I have none. Put in the work get that shoulder healed up for when you’re reeling in the big ones. BR will be here if you need to unplug.
  5. UPDATE: the steroids seem to be helping him tremendously. I am glad to see my boy getting back to somewhat normal. The hard part will be keeping him resting for the next 4-8 weeks.
  6. Fall is amazing. Less people. The chance at good fish. No bugs. No heat stroke. It’s not humid. Sundays on the water are bare due to people watching football. I just love fall on and off the water. At this rate though it looks as if I may not get on the water till spring. Either way, I am going to enjoy the best time of the year!
  7. I have not fished since July as well. I am waiting for my new boat to come in. I do feel how you feel about the winter blues right now. I do get bored at times with the site as you have mentioned. It’s just because of how much time is spent here. You also are not engaged in fishing so that makes it tougher to relate.
  8. Update: the x rays were good. Now we are doing a long steroid regimen. If we do not start to see improvement after 5 days we are looking at an MRI for soft tissue issues.
  9. @Turtle Angler I don’t change much of what I’d do. The quality and quality of fish changes though
  10. I don’t in know anything about golf. I have been to stonewall Jackson in wv and at the resort they have a golf course right at the lake.it’s an Arnold Palmer course is all I know. I would have to agree with @Captain Phil might be your best bang for your buck for both.
  11. I talked to my vet he reviewed the meds the emergency hospital and their report. I added in what he has been doing. He said it’s a strong possibility that it’s a slipped disc. Tomorrow I will be taking him there for x rays. We will get a game plan after that to be sure that’s what it is. We may need to go to a specialist for surgery or it may be treatable with lots of rest and steroids. Regardless I am going to take the best option for his well being. Not what’s best for my wallet. His quality of life is most important to me. He needs to get fixed up so he can break in the new G3 when it comes in
  12. this is a glide bait in the Musky world. A walk the dog sub surface that shimmies on the fall. I was looking for something similar. The sub-walk by rapala is the closest I know of. I was wonder f if anyone knew of anything else. @Darth-Baiter
  13. That is awesome! Great community we have here. Enjoy your goodies!
  14. In musky fishing these are very popular. Basically think of a top water spook like bait but, runs 1-5 foot down. In musky fishing they are glide baits. Rapala makes the x rap sun walk. I have not seen any other bait companies with one on the bass side. Does anyone else use these for bass? Is there others available on the market then this one?
  15. It didn’t. We thought it was related. He was full energy and fine for two weeks. then just a crazy turn around. The uti was confirmed by a urine sample. The time line of everything fits from when he jumped out of my truck bed. We didn’t think of that till then mentioned about the strain. All his blood work is good. He’s not having a bad reaction to the antibiotics and all his other functions are spot on. He goes through spells where he is very good you would never know anything is wrong. Then it’s almost like he has a spasm. We are going to call our regular vet Monday.
  16. Our dog is a very important part of my and my wife’s life. We have no kids just our fur baby. He got diagnosed with a uti. Then after two weeks on the antibiotics he stopped wanting to eat and drink. Yesterday he was shrieking in pain trying to stand up. He would just lay flat on his stomach and head flat out. We spend 5 hours at an emergency vet yesterday. They determined he has a strain neck/back. His Skeletal structure is good. They did not think x rays were needed at this point. So he is prescribed pain meds and rest. Once he does get up from laying down he isn’t doing bad. The threshold he has to pass for him to get up brings me to tears. He shrieks and will go back down and shriek again trying to get back up. It’s terrible to hear and see. I hope he starts to show some signs of improvement over the next few days. If not we will be going to or normal vet for x rays. Sorry for the rant. It’s just so hard to watch and him not be able to tell me what’s wrong.
  17. I’ve also been told that during moon phases is when the fish actually release their eggs during spawn. Could be a 50/50 thing.
  18. Maybe it has to do with what they are eating? No clue honestly
  19. I honestly never fished for tigers different then I fished for pures. Reg and mag bulldawgs. Reg and mid dussas. 6 and 8” phantoms. Personally I’d be ripping bulldawgs as hard as I can this time of year. Suicks also work great too around any shallower cover. Don’t be scared to fish very aggressive.
  20. I’ve gotten to the point where I tell people 15-20 minutes earlier then I want them to be there. It usually works it does drive me nuts though. I try to be 10 minutes early 15-20 if it’s something new and I do not exactly know what’s going on.
  21. I like to keep my truck decent looking. I use it as a truck. I have a dog. He is in the truck 2-3 times a week. I vacuum out the hair weekly but, there will always be lots of hair in it.
  22. I am very thankful and lucky that up here I rarely have to deal with a hurricane. Usually if anything does make it this far north it is no longer a full blown hurricane. We end up with rain and some wind. Anyone who lives down south and deals with that has a huge set up stones on them.
  23. @Kirtley Howe we have plenty of 6-10ft areas protected from current that the smallies go to in the winter. Some will stay shallow most will go to these areas.
  24. In the susky when fall starts to roll around the river starts going in high spells. I always follow high water patterns no matter what the time of year is. Smallies are very nomadic. Some are going to stay in the summer homes for a little bit yet. Others will start to make the move. As you said it’s the transition. Deep into fall is when most of the smallies will be in or around their winter homes. Although there will be some roamers up shallow. all in all you have to be adaptive and it will pay off big.
  25. I try to take any trash I make with me. I am not saying a big gust of wind hasn’t blown something out if my boat. Of course I have dropped small items that I am not going to search for. If I snag on someone’s line in the water I try my best to get all that line out of the water. Nothing gets my goat more then people who leave fishing trash all over the place.
