I also remember a couple years ago the BASS kayak tournament on the susky when they were complaining it was to low. It was literally at a level I could run my jet boat just about anywhere.

I went from bank fishing to fishing out of a Coleman scanoe with a TM to a boat. I would never choose a kayak over a boat. I felt like I was so limited in where I could go without a boat. Now I feel like the sky is the limit. I’ll never be able to wrap my head around it. that being said if you enjoy it go for it! Be safe and have fun doing it. Just don’t ever be shocked if a jet boat pops up next to you.

I hope it works out for you. I just have a lot of reservations about it. Just remember you are reading a sales pitch. My honest opinion is just suck in general. It’s just the best tool for where I fish.

Impeller damage on a jet isn’t really talked about. It’s very real and causes major issues. I lost an impeller blade on my intake over the summer. It’s a worse situation than damaging a prop. Remember a jet is nothing more than a vacuum. At least a prop pushes you. One little nick in an impeller will take you from 7mph to 4 real quick.

@Craig P there is lakes and there is rivers than there is the susky. Unless you are talking more about using it in the skook. Which I really do not have much experience. There is no way you won’t trash impellers. I sharpen mine often

I fish the river out of a jet boat. Here are my two cents coming from a jet boat owner and not a kayak owner. jets are very inefficient. How long will you be able to do 7mph in current? Jets handle best up and running on plane. Not only is that what lets us get through 3” of water it keeps us from sucking up gravel and other debris on the bottom. Jets not on plane handle like a wet noodle. How will this handle sucking up debris? It maybe weed less (I personally don’t trust that) how will it hold up to leaves, gravel, stones, nuts, bolts, anything else the vacuum on the bottom will pick up? how durable is it? 7mph doesn’t sound fast till you hit something I promise that will change your mind. You won’t have the vantage point of seeing stuff you would from a boat. Safety! How stable is it? What happens if you start spinning in a rock shoot with it? Can the motor take an impact and not fail? Does it come with a clearing device on the grate so if it does get clogged you can unclog it?

No. It’s impossible to learn the river because it’s ever changing.

I always use the side mirrors and hold the bottom of the wheel. The only time I use my back up camera is for putting it on the ball. I always try to see if there is some edge I can follow to go straight. The other thing I will do is instead of fighting it the second I am starting to get out of whack I’ll just pull forward enough to undo it. Back smarter not harder. No need to S your way down a ramp when in 3 seconds you can be straight.

With the end of 2025 rapidly approaching I hope many of us complete the goals we had for 2025. One of my goals in 2026 is to keep learning and exploring the Susquehanna River. This will be a goal of mine for probably the rest of my life. I would also like to get someone who isn’t an active fisherman into fishing. I would like to fish as much as I can with my dad. I would like to enter the Ike foundation tournament this year as well. That isn’t as easy as it sounds though. What are your plans and goals for the up coming season?

This maybe harder for you but, I usually fight rod tip down and keep my line more parallel to the water. I will keep a bend in the rod while doing this. There are times where I fight pulling up that is only if I’m trying to keep it up. Most of my lost fish come from the pulling up.

@HawkeyeSmallie I can’t say I would ever support the company who was giving the interview either. It was way too much of a buddy buddy interview.

I tried listening. I got 10 minutes in and I cannot believe a word he said. Hunter who was mentioned him and I do talk occasionally on instagram. I have not met him personally but, we talk fishing and do plan on fishing together at some point. When he said the whole kayak washed down the river and he kept it is a big red flag. He would have had to report it and if no one came forward then he could have claimed it. At that point it’s still stolen property.

I usually end up buying stuff when it’s on sale through gift cards mainly. I do not have a budget. I spend it like I have it 😂

If you aren’t buying Shimano or Diawa you are missing it. Sorry not sorry

@casts_by_fly I agree. only Ben will know if he truly planned to fish without a license in the state he lives all year. He 100% broke the law. Whether negligence or purposeful. No different than if I run a stop sign knowing it’s there or I was new to an area and don’t see it. I broke the law and what happens happens. this guy has it thought out and planned to win money. He did it multiple times. There was 100% disregard for any rule or law. It isn’t even arguable about what he did. There is not excuse or apology in the world for him.

@casts_by_fly the difference is Ben couldn’t win the prizes. Since 6th sense donated most of them for that. Other than the state getting to spawn the fish Ben was going to get nothing out of it. Bonehead move 100% he should have had his license.

@gim no doubt. I am in the process of switching jobs and being under the microscope having nothing to hide is brutal. I couldn’t imagine having something like that over your head. I guess when you have a huge ego there isn’t enough room in your head to think of that.

Ice fishing is a go for me! I’ve been out in -5 no shanty.
