  1. The smallest one they make. Think it's size 4 double take hook made by Stanley. I use the hooks that don't have the weights on them.
  2. For me it would be a hump or ridge next too a channel swing. But haven't fished any yet this year due too the unseasonably high winds we seem too be having. My boat isn't setup for fishing such things in much wind.
  3. Bass is one thing. Them sac's well that's diffrent lmao.
  4. Pm answered. Hope I was clear and you find it easy to find the spot.
  5. I don't see why not. Since everybody cuts that stuff too make duck blinds. Just make sure it's not on the north Toledo bend land. Wouldn't hurt too make a call too the wardens office in Minden and ask the rules on doing that kind of stuff just too be sure. Shoot me a pm I will give you the local of a crappie hole out in the bluelake/1215 area. Should still be some on it. Water is very high right now, so take that into your calculations. The lake gets ruff even easier when the water is this high.
  6. Stay home I done caught the last 6 large mouth and the last white bass in the lake. No more here lmao.
  7. Well started at 2pm today and fished till 6pm. Batted 1000 today had 27 bites, got 27 hooksets and landed 27 bass. These were the biggest of the 27. Don't normally keep bass the size of the biggest but she was so sickly and ragged out from spawning and she didn't even fight when I hooked her. I figured she would die just from the shock of being caught, so I keep her. The strange thing is she still had a full egg sack in her when we cleaned them when I got home. All bass fell to the baby ribbet today, with my secret technique.
  8. Yea we do. I tied the boat to the porch yesterday. You know just incase that 3rd monkey from the bible shows up and me and him have too have a throw down before it sets sail lmao.
  9. What he said. The water is finally back up too where it was in early February before they started dropping it. Bite has been kind of off for me the last 2 days but should get better if and when the water stabilizes.
  10. I accutaly got my old electronics repaired and working great again. So safed myself a ton of money. As for the missus. She better go get a job and buy her own happy meal. My money is for hunting and fishing lmao.
  11. Awesome. Can't wait. Looks like I will be going throw a few bags of the old ribbet frogs this week then.
  12. Was you asking me or just asking as kind of general question too the board? For me it would be either Texas rigged or Crig. Color depends but my go to is watermelon red, black/redflake or black with chartreuse tail. Lizards-6,8 and bigger inches Curtail worms-8 inch are bigger Brushhog- standard or baby Hook size and weight varies on weather and wind so won't worrie much about listing all that. Hope this helps sir.
  13. Well it held true again today. But the size was down. Me and dad got the water at 2 this afternoon. Very quickly running the catch count up too 36 but not one of those bass was legel turns out a huge school of dinks moved in since yesterday and stacked up right in the area where I caught the most of my keepers my last trip up there. We moved on and counties too find fish but the only keepers we found belong to my dad he put a 4 and a 2 pounder in the live Well for supper tonight. The keepers came on the swimbait and almost all of the dinks as well. I did catch a few dinks on the frog but the sun and clouds were just going in and out too much and the color they wanted to hit would never really stabilize. We did have a few mishaps dad hit my rod and I backslashes my frog rod so bad I had to cut and lose most of my spool and then tie in and refill. Pulled some trash up in the pisser a few times and had to clear it. Meet a few very fine individuals prefishing for a tourney that was ever so kind to troll by with the outboard right where we were casting too. Like 25 feet from us. After the third time they wasn't to happy with me when I hit one of them in the head with a swimbait. Depending on weather I'm going to try again Tuesday morning at first light.
  14. That's what I was looking for a clear understanding of what type of grass was growing on what type of bottom. But near as I could tell, every type of grass up in that area was both growing on the sandy i.e. harder bottom plus the mud bottoms. I typically try to break down a area first by understanding how the bait will be positioned either due too lake flow or wind current. I then like to find the travel routes they would use and how too setup with the bait movement and placement. Since I haven't never had a chance to fish this much grass on the big pond before. I was more at a lose I guess because my mind was telling me. They are here due too travel routes and bait placement. But the area seemed too sujest it was more of a preferred grass type. That they wanted to be at along those first 2 conditions. Since this area is so shallow I didn't bother with the electronics and just used a old broom stick handle too feel the bottom. Either way I'm having a blast learning a newer area and condition. Then my usual buck brush type conditions. It's nice and cloudy and a lil breeze blowing so I'm probable going hit the water and see if my thinking is sound.
  15. Ok so last thing we was kind of discussing was bottom composition i.e hard spots. So here goes. The area I have been fishing the last few days. Is just covered in aquatic plants ( hydrilla, pepper grass, hay grass, and Lilly pads) but the bottom is either mud or a nice sandy bottom. The grass really doesn't have much in the way of hard defined lines. Meaning it's all kind of mixed together, no real transition lines. So I used the old wooden stick method every time I got a bite or caught a fish to check bottom type. Now I did catch some fish over the mud bottom but those mostly came when the wind was blowing. Most of my fish came from over the sandy bottom. But it seemed the bass in this area relate mostly too one type of grass. Now I did catch a few in the pads but most say 8 out of 10 came where there was pepper grass. The bass weren't in the thick part of it but more on the edges. Now the wind was blowing and pushing balls of bait along these grass flats and the bass were setting up to ambush them. But it was clear that they wanted to be over the sandy bottom but in the pepper grass and not the hydrilla or pads or the coontail. I have always heard and beloved that hydrilla and coontail was the best grass for bass. But after several trips up too this area it doesn't appear so. I'm still wondering if it was totally the grass type or if it was more of the bottom type because the sandy bottom was always along a ditch are creek channel. My past fishing experience wants to say it is due too the sandy bottom along the travel routes. But there just has been too many bass along the pepper grass edges too convince my mind too stay with that thinking. Long winded and probably confusing as heck. What you say Catt?
  16. Was it the baby ribbet size? I find that they like the baby ribbet better then the bigger sizes. Wish they made my 2 fav colors in the ribbet runt size as well. Also was you useing the weighted style ribbet hooks? If so here is a lil tip, get the ribbet hooks in number 4 size that has no weight on the hook shaft. It makes the action much more better.
  17. White and chartreuse feet baby ribbet is the hotness when it's cloudy outside.
  18. I don't know how Rayburn is fishing but after going throw 5 and half bags of ribbets yesterday afternoon in 4 hours I would say the big pond is fish great for me. Lol I swear I seen this on Facebook somewhere lol.
  19. Lil late to the subject but I settled on 2 small bucks this year since I had knee surgery last September and couldn't hunt way back in on public land like I like too do. Our neibour has some ground he owns and gave us permission to a lil 5 acre slot across the road from his main 120 acres. Throw up a pop up blind and set a camrea and some corn. Killed both of them with 1 shot from my 16 inch 6.5 grendel in the pics. Both bang flops. First was shot with 100 grain NBT and the second was shot with federal 120 grain fusion ammo. Pic with the boot is the second deer. Both were nice and tender.
  20. So I ended my day at 5:30 this afternoon with my 8 legal keepers for the day. Had 3 keepers from this morning and went back out and found 5 more. All on ribbet frogs. 2 to 3 foot of water staged up either on the upwind side or downwind side of buckbrush and grass pads. All spots were of hard sand bottoms next to creek channels and or ditches that leed out to a main creek channel. Since it was nice and cloudy today I was slinging the white with chartreuse feet ribbet. Didn't get any pics put will take a pre cleaning pic for y'all tommorw before we put them under the knife. With my 8 keepers I had close to 12 maybe a bit over pounds of bass. Oh and I never turned my electronics on today, good old map study and learned area knowledge is what put me on these bass behind several boats loaded with the newest gear in electronics, power poles and spot lock trolling motors. As always fat guy, white tshirt, camo ball cap, blue pro crappie tracker, slinging ribbets and swim baits if you find me come say hello. Edit to add. Didn't get to get a pic fish got cleaned while I was at theropy. But found out that of my 8 and my dad's 4 from the day before. 11 out of the 12 still had eggs.
  21. I can't remember the last time I caught a fish I seen on my graph. I use it more for water temp, depth and bottom layout. I think most folks have to have the electronics because they seen such and such pro useing them. That and never really learned how to break down a peice of water and think like a fish. Case in point I fished behind 2 nitrous this morning in a set of coves close to my house, they were constantly checking their graphs. Never seen them even try to set a hook. While I was sitting in 5 foot of water throwing a ribbet frog up too 6 inchs of water and catching the bass staging in 2 to 3 foot of water on the up wind side of brush tops and grass pads. Ohh and a big big big big thanks to Catt for starting this thread without it I would have never learned how to break down a peice of water and think like a bass. Without it I would be face locked on my electronics screen wondering where all the bass in the lake is.
  22. Nawww I had a few throw the hook, so there is one or 10 leavt lmao.
  23. Lil bit of everything on the old swimbait and trap this afternoon.
  24. This is why I only fish coves that are feed by a creek.
  25. Me and dad didn't do to bad yesterday. He picked up the smallest with a swimbait, I had one throw back with the swimbait, had 1 jump off and landed 1 of the bigger ones with the swimbait, the rest I smashed with the good old trusty crusty baby ribbet on a mid day high wind grass top water bite. Colors used and sizes Swimbait 4 inch- watermelon red and smoke shad I think is the color dad used. Ribbet- baby size with 4 size double take hook- black with red flake. We fished for 3 hours. Bass was holding where pepper grass would meet up with hydrilla are some other type of grass but they for sure was holding in the edges of the pepper grass. Water depth- 3 to 10 foot biggest came at the 10 foot mark on the swimbait.
