"That's the point" I say. "Somebody has to keep these fish in their place. Have you looked at fish? Vile disgusting things. AND!.. They're comin' for our LAND! Have you seen how slimy fish are? Nothing good comes from something that slimy. I hear they have schools down there. What are they teaching? It's not the word of God, I can assure you that..." Hopefully by this point they've backed slowly away.

Not a good fly fisher, maybe spin for trout?
I moved to SW Montana and had the same thought. Now I've decided I just don't like trout. They're fickle moody things.

Which muskie leader?
The tieable wire looks interesting. When I was a kid it was all Eagle Claw coated wire with inferior swivels and clips.

Which muskie leader?
I'm dabbling a bit in Esox fishing but don't want to go crazy with tons of new gear. Yet. For the time being, I want one leader that will do. What brand? What weight or weights?

Bad transducer, TM, head unit or other?
Thank you all for your suggestions. I will let you know what I discover.

Bad transducer, TM, head unit or other?
This boat is new to me and has way more technology than I've used before. I've had it out a handful of times this season and something strange is going on. I have a solix 10 at the helm connected to transducers at the stern. As far as I can tell, it works flawlessly. At the bow I have an ultrex 36v with a built in transducer and a megalive transducer on a MK targetlock system. All this feeds into a Helix 12. The Helix 12 is a refurbished unit from Russel Marine as the Helix 10 that was up there froze and cracked. Symptoms: lots of interference and poor signal on 2D. Side imaging also seems to lack the same level of detail and down imaging shows similar vertical banding as 2D. The next and most obvious issue is that sometimes only one side of side imaging will display even though it's set to both. Finally, the trolling motor will disconnect from the network momentarily, fails to respond to commands from the remote and/or moment switches on the foot pedal and occasionally loses spot lock. Hypothesis: it's the trolling motor. The symptoms go further than the Helix head unit and even when the TM won't respond to the remote, it'll still respond to both head units. Questions: What part of the TM? I can see it being anything from wiring to transducer or the brain of the actual TM. What troubleshooting can I do without Johnson Outdoors or on dry land? The closest body of water where I can launch is in a cell dead zone. Does anyone have a good guide to ipilotLink? Searching for information mostly brings up the newer version of ipilot.

Line-grip swivels with open eye?
Gotcha. I'm looking for the little swivel line clip things, but where the top ring is left bent open from the factory. That way I can pop my own hook on, use a pliers to close the eye and go fishing. When I looked through my existing swivels, almost all of them are fused or the termination point for the wire is inside the barrel of the swivel. I can find fully assembled dropshot hook assemblies as small as a size 4, but the baits I'm using necessitate a size 6 or 8 EWG. Tiny. What I want is a tiny EWG dropshot setup that doesn't have to be retied after every third fish. Too big. I want those but on a size 6&8 EWG

Screw lock football heads
Out of curiosity, what's the difference?

Screw lock football heads
No, just the ned heads

Line-grip swivels with open eye?
I'd like to make my own dropshot setups with the hook stacked on the top of a line-grip swivels. I can find tons of line-grip swivels, but they all seem to have an eye that terminates inside the swivel body. Alternatively, has anyone seen a setup like this in a #6 EWG?

Micro Trips?
For the most part I don't target bass when I'm doing this. I catch some as bycatch, but if I'm targeting anything, it's panfish and stocker trout. They're far more common in the ponds nearby and I just don't have enough time to target them effectively. Try to catch whatever is there.

Where are you buying tungsten weighted hooks?
Ever notice how they say 97% pure tungsten? The other 3 percent will be other metallic elements mixed into an alloy. That 3% will be specifically formulated to make it easier to work the tungsten. With that said, A LOT of tungsten fishing products are made by a few big players. They'll make stuff to order provided the order is big enough.

Micro Trips?
This season I've been kind of obsessed with stuff from Moondog Bait Co. I love their leech pattern, lizard, tadpole, and finesse worm. I thought I would get a lot more use out of the shad reaper, but those and the tadpole are too thick top to bottom for the EWGs and I don't have a lot of opportunity to fish exposed hook. They all work crazy good on a drop shot, some as micro ned rigs and I've been experimenting with Carolina rigging them as well. Speaking of Ned rigs, a lot of the Z-Man Micro Finesse series works great. It has the advantage of being able to take a lot of abuse and keep going which isn't true of a lot of micro soft plastics. That said, at this size their action suffers and rigging them can be a challenge. I also have a smattering of other crappie and trout stuff. Bobby Garland, EuroTackle, trout magnets, mice tails, grubs and tubes. Moondog also has micro bladed jigs, swim jigs, ball jigs, underspins and my personal favorite right now -- A-rigs. If your fishing feels bland, there's nothing like a Christmas tree of sunfish and baby bass. And I can throw it on a medium spinning rod. High on my list to try soon is stuff from Creek Life Lure Co. They have some more natural and subtle stuff than Moondog. That was probably more than you wanted to know, LoL.

Micro Trips?
No, not micro-dosing, settle down SwampGirl. 😉 I heard the host of Tackle Talk use the term micro trips to describe fishing in 5 - 30 minute increments as you can fit them in during the day. For instance, I have to pickup the kids from a day camp that's right next to a local pond. It's somewhat common for me to head to pickup early so I can beat on the bluegills for a few minutes. Or, if it's been a hard day at work, there's a different pond I have to drive by on my way home. Sometimes, 15 minutes at the edge of the pond is necessary before transitioning to parenting. Do you micro trip? How? Any stories or tips? Recently I've been loving tiny Texas rigs for this type of fishing. I just got some 1/32nd tungsten worm weights and they are the cutest little things. Have you ever seen #8 and #10 EWGs? They make panfishing a blast. I keep 3-5 rods rigged on the ceiling of my minivan from thaw to freeze and I bet it doubles the number of minutes I fish in a season. How about you?

How many carry while out fishing in the boat.
I carry bear spray when I am bank fishing in bear areas.

rusty hooks and smallies
I agree with what the others have said, but another product to know about is Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) paper and pucks. The trade name is Zerust and it is a chemical that can be impregnated in and applied to various materials. When an item is stored in/with VCI, the VCI off gasses a vapor that, as it's name suggests, inhibits corrosion. In the fishing world it's marketed by Flambeau Outdoors as a line of tackle boxes and inserts. You can find other options by searching. It's used in industry and manufacturing a lot. The nice part about it is that it works on most forms of metal, not just ferros stuff. Put a slip of it in with jewelry, fine silver, polished copper or aluminum machine parts and your stuff stays shiney. The not nice part is that it only works in confined spaces and like all evaporative products, when the vapor is gone so is the protection. I don't use it for my fishing tackle as I haven't found a need, but I have used it in a commercial environment and it's nice.

Deep water summer trout fishing
If you have a sonar to mark their depth here are two options: Drop jigging - Freshwater Deep Jigging - On The Water https://share.google/H5cI8pqyGVXvPDJiK Cannon ball weight on a 3 way swivel: Probably more than you want to get into, but people use dipsy divers from kayaks on Superior.
