You should be fine, On our boat we have a 125 mercury and a 15hp and the max is 125hp. I think the hp rating is more about drag and torque on the boat and not the transom wieght.

I fish for largemouths but i am going to start fishing for some smallmouth this year.

I would say 1 1/2 Hp, Because Briggs and stratton made a 3 hp electric motor which was 150 lbs. Thrust so do the math and there it is.

I have a 12 footer, lay you rods down the side keep you tackle in the back of the boat near the battery and fish in the middle if it is a transom mount motor and the front if it is a bow mount

Well if you mean what company, i like Ranger Skeeter and Basscat and Triton Aluminium and the motors would be yamaha and mercury and last would be evinrude.
