Structure spoon between 3/8 oz to 3/4 oz like a Kastmaster in neon blue chrome adding Owner white feathered treble hook. Start small to determine what those fish are, everything eats small spoons. Cast and let the spoon fall on controlled slack line, lift when the spoon stops. Tom

The pond bass tend to be shoreline hunters during warm water months and move deeper as the water cools below 60 degrees. You can cast lures up on the bank and retrieve quietly back into the water if the shallow bass are spooky. The fan cast pattern from a boat is opposite as from shore. Casting parallel from shore about 50’ off shore and working the fan pattern 180 degrees along the bank back out the opposite side. Take note where your strikes occur to determine where the bass are located. Your boat noise affects the bass more then lure splashing down. Tom

I started into BFS bass fishing with member Big Hands. Being a back seater with spinning tackle is a PITA, twisting line, inaccurate casting. I decided to to try BFS with the Falcon Cara BFS rod and Ark limited edition BFS reel combo and was very happy with one exception the rod doesn’t load up well with lures under 1/8 oz, the reel works great but also tricky to stay adjusted with the very light lures. My 1st bass was a Striper and the combo handle the 7 lb Striper and was a wonderful experience, everything worked great. My 2nd combo has me so exited like a kid again, Shimano Aldebaran BFS reel* and Phenix Classic BFS 7’1” rod. I can’t tell you all how this combo feels it’s beyond words! I have used Break Free CLP on my level wind gears for decades. Comes in a little 1 oz bottle w/applicator and will last a very long time. Tom

The Shimano SLX XTA 150 w/6.3:1 has the extra line capacity needed when casting and retrieving medium diving crank baits. You want a lower gear ratio for larger deep divers. Big Game 10 or 12 lb is ideal. Tom

3,000 soft plastics and 375 hard lures would weigh about 125 lbs, that is a lot of lures but about equal to batteries. Gasoline weights about 6 1/2 lbs per gallon 20 gallons another = 130 lbs. another 6 lbs for rods and reels and yes,40 lbs of misc stuff you have the average bass boat gear weight around 300 lbs. 2 passengers around 350 lbs. Nitro 18’ w/150 Merc should run about 50 mph at 5,000 rpm. Running 26 mph something is seriously wrong. Tom

Late seeing this thread. Having a mom and dad who fishes together is very special and hope see recovers fully. Not sure if I understand target radiation as a method to remove bone spurs? The spur could easily be removed arthroscopic with little recovery issues. 🙏for her quick recovery. Tom

26 mph you need to have that 150 hp OB tuned, it’s not the overloaded tackle weight! Sell everything you haven’t used in a few years or store the extra tackle in he garage….if you have space. You know exactly what you have regarding tackle. You are physically healthy enough to still launch and go fishing enjoy it! What I am doing is adding BFS rod-reel to my bass fishing and this has rejuvenated my desire to get on the water plus new lures to use. Tom

California doesn’t have lead weight ban, still buy lead weights for fishing. Ammo is another story no lead shot shells allowed. We get the warning labels on everything that “may” contain lead in the metal like brass for example. Tom

No reason to repeatedly loose a jig in rip rap. Your presentation technique is simple wrong hanging up repeatedly or the jig head design isn’t right and too heavy weight jig. With rip rap don’t let the jig settle down into crevices, keep it moving. 1 made 100 custom hair jigs each year when fishing a few days each week and always and a some left over. Some days you loose 2 or 3 other times you can fish the same jig for several days. The key is jiggle the jig free and try different angles to free it. Tom

Soft plastics must feel right to bass because they not only strike them they swallow it. Tom

If I still had a boat and was seriously bass fishing I would have all the goodies. Our lakes are deep rock structure with sparse cover plus highly pressured fisheries. With electronics you can locate the bait, structure elements and fish. Without electronics it’s all trail and error wasting precious time eliminating fish less water. FFS is a game changer because in lieu of a narrow live display with the sonar screen all history, FFS live scope displays the entire screen with real time view under water. You can see what is going on real time. Call it what you want but it isn’t going away! Today I go fishing as a back seater and enjoy fishing old school and catch a few bass using BFS tackle. Tom

Jig fishing from shore isn’t your best choice. Jig also take more patients and focus on strike detection than any other lure. My advice don’t fish jigs unless you plan to:dedicate yourself fishing them. A 1/4 oz Football plain football head with Yamamoto 4” twin tail Huls Grub #221 will catch bass anywhere. Tom

3/16 oz Football = 4” Hula Grub would be my guess. Tom PS, 221 is also good.
