  1. That spot on jeff. davis is pretty good. lots of structure and near the bridge has been pretty productive for a friend of mine that fishes there often. He's caught striper there too. It can get crowded though. I had a few guys with multiple surf rods set up shop right next to me > They had the WHOLE shore line open but chose to plant themselves within casting distance of me. oh well.
  2. Mercer from what I've heard.
  3. Thanks Jay, trying to post up more but haven't really been out. This was the first time in a while that I was able to clear my schedule for some fishing. I didn't see much hydrilla or matting just the lily pads, but I had other things on my mind that day so I could be mistaken. I've been slackin' this year. Hopefully I'll be able to get out some more soon.
  4. Not bad, for an iphone... And what about my stick waving skills?!?! That snapping turtle didn't just pose cuz it was cool! 8-)
  5. Yeah, we also forgot to check the tides! Once the fishing slowed we realized it was low tide. It was a good 1.5-2' below what it was when we launched. Do you get small craft advisories for reservoirs and small lakes? I'd assume just the bays and the major rivers?
  6. Hung up Paul and I decided to try out Pohick Bay in Paul's Jon boat. We met up at 5:30AM and ran into some complications (stupid road signs) and started fishing around 7. The water traffic was picking up and it was getting crowded fast. By the time we were on the water there were atleast a dozen other boats out there already fishing. Paul started it off with a nice sized yellow perch on a senko! Sorry for the funky pix, we both forgot our cameras! Paul continued to kick my butt throughout the day with a few more fish including this nice one which I think hit a spinnerbait but I'm not sure. I finally caught one off of spinner bait throwing it between two trees. It wasn't big enough for pictures but it sure felt good to put a fish in the boat! My buddy Jeremy met up with us later with his kayak and he was able to quickly put fish in the yak. no word on any pictures from him. A few fish later, I finally caught a keeper Paul followed up with a nice senko bass that got hung up on a stump (hung up paul got hung up, figures) turned out to be the biggest fish of the day. We noticed a lot of nets and traps in the bay and actually had to help a trapped carp get loose of a net. We then rolled up on a trap with crazy action inside and found... ....that I had horrible picture taking skills and this HUGE gar inside. That sucker was a good 3 ft long. There was a second gar in there that was about 1.5-2 ft long and a massive carp that topped them both. We must have spooked the carp enough to get out of the trap but the gar weren't so lucky. We ended the day with a few more fish but nothing of size. It was a great day to be on the water and we felt me faired pretty well for it being our first time on this body of water.
  7. That snapping turtle was NOT happy with us being there! It was a very good day of fishing and I was very happy to have Kevin join me. We each easily caught 15-20+ fish but most were dinks. I spent most of the day using a megabass type-x that Simonsays gave me for xmas and a rage lizard. Didn't really feel like changing things up as the fish were hammering these lures. I wish we got a picture of the monster carp... The color of the 6" senko was watermelon with red flakes. It's what I used to catch my PB a few years ago. Kev's fish had to have been in less than a foot of water....it was crazy but a great way to end the day. Not bad for less than 4 hours of fishing...
  8. haha nice Simon. The one in springfield is already gone...
  9. Friends were there a week or so ago and hand luck on minnow type jerk baits. Not sure how they were fishing them but they caught a few small keepers and some decent sized walleye.
  10. Nice report and awesome catches Dan! Sorry I couldn't make it and didn't let you know :-[. I'm glad you had a good time though, I was at work and saw the rain clouds and was hoping the weather wasn't too bad out on the Bay. Would you be interested in some light tackle striper fishing? Let me know, I'm setting something up real soon.
  11. Don't remind me... :'( My other hobbies are consuming a lot of my time and there seems to be a large number of weddings this year too > No worries, I'll catch up ;D Can't wait to hear your report!
  12. Nice catch! I've been meaning to get out on the rez for the first time in 2009 but haven't had a chance to yet!
  13. That stinks, how's the new one by potomac mills? I haven't been there yet. Sorry to derail. haha
  14. Also, not sure if you know but you can purchase a DC fishing license at some Dick's.
  15. the washington channel.. fished there a few times last year for striper. careful when near the war college, although I haven't been yelled at yet, they apparently get hissy if you get too close to the wall. The drop off is 10-15' out from the wall. You'll see the drop off on your depth finder quickly as it is VERY apparent. Don't be ticked if you can't get them to bite either. If you run along the wall the war college is on towards the police station you'll find, or atleast I did in the fall, a lot of fish suspended a few feet off the bottom. Your charts will scream, "Cast here" but trust me...they won't always bite.. :'( Last year there were quite a few anglers working the other side, the wall of the park (forgot name) throwing shakey heads but they didn't have any luck. Sorry, this info is from the fall so will probably be of noo help to you. Oh yea, watch out for floating timber > After writing all this I noticed you already said some of this stuff, oh well. P.S. a DC fishing license is required for the DC channel.
  16. from what I've seen 4 mile run is WAY tooo shallow. I've heard of good fishing where it meets the potomac though. PM Volfan, he's a local to those waters.
  17. Dude... > not cool! I hate you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'( I haven't been out in forever. I think I'm going nuts.... Nice catches and pix, how's the kistler feel? Give me a call when you're free please. That spot NEEEDs to be fished soon. You know the spot I'm talking about... P.S. I hate you...
  18. Beaverdam can be very productive on some days but the lake is known to change patterns on a daily basis. Hold some pretty big fish (and ticks) if you can find them. Last year, I had a lot of luck working the submerged rocks with a tube or fat ika but this was during the summer. I haven't been out there in awhile.
  19. Yep, not much reporting these days for NoVA :-/ I haven't been out much so haven't had much to report either I've been meaning to get out on the potomac or occoquan but haven't had a chance to. I promise to report once I do.
  20. i believe my piranhamax portable is waterproof. not sure though. =/ I'll look up the specs later.
  21. I never see any fish on that thing!! I'm always scared to look at it at night, thinkin a body will float by or something. HAHA, i'm weird like that. :-[
  22. Nice pig! I haven't caught anything to put that kind of grin on my face in awhile, how I miss it....
  23. Nice fish!!! You should just pick me up, take me fishing, and drive me home.
