My new Merc 25 OB
Glad to hear that you got a great deal on the motor!!!!

5:1 real
Shimano Bantam Citica or Bantam Curado. The new Citica's will also work great in that gear ratio.
-
pound of line
50lb Power Pro or 15lb P-Line 100% Fluorocarbon
-
Topwater Setup
St. Croix AC66MF with a 7:1 Shimano Curado spooled with 14lb P-Line Evolution. I feel that a burner reel is necessary mainly because there have been many times when fish are schooled and are feeding on the surface its good to be able to retreive my bait from dead water as fast as possible ;D.

Best uses for braided line
Some guyz here uses braid for everything. I however use braid for only a few things: Flipping/pitching/skipping: 50lb Power Pro Frogs: 50lb Power Pro Swimbaits: 50lb Power Pro Carolina Rig: 50lb Power Pro w/ a 15lb P-line Fluorocarbon leader. That pretty much sums up my braid fishing. Everything else I use P-Line Fluorocarbon and for topwater I use mono.

line recommendations
Shallow cranks : 15lb Fluoro Livebait rig: 6-10lb Fluoro depending on heavy the cover is Carolina Rigs: 50lb Braid w/ a 14lb mono or fluoro leader

Good Crankbait Reel?
Citica! Awesome reel, just wish I had bought the 4 that I have during the rebate.
-
Deep Crank Rod
A friend of mines uses a 7' 11" rod for his deep cranking. His logic is farther the cast deeper the bait runs. I however find a 7' MH Falcon Cara is great for deep cranking.

XT vs. Big Game
I always thought Big Game was originally made for Saltwater. It feels like its thicker and has more memory than XT.

Favorite Line for Plastics and Jigs on a Baitcaster?
For flipping Jigs into cover: 50lb Power Pro For casting Jigs and worms: 15lb P-line Fluorocarbon

Sluggos
AWESOME lures! Way better than a Fluke.
-
Falcon Low Rider
Falcons are awesome rods in my mind. They are right up there w/ St. Croix in my mind!
-
fuel stabilizer
I always run stabilizer through my motor. This way the gas in the gas lines and other parts of the motor are also protected and it prevents corrosion on the injectors.
-
Fishing line deterioration
Think of it this way, you don't know how long the line has been on the shelves or storage areas of sporting good stores. But I always spray new spools of line w/ Real Magic or KVD line and Lure as soon as I buy it and about once a month during the winter.

FLW brand rod?
About 6 years ago I bought a 7' MH FLW Classic Series for about $36. I'm still using it today. Very light and sensative. The action is perfect for crankbaits! I've also used it for C-rigs. Great rod for the price! The reel seat however does like to come loose often but that has been solved w/ electrical tape. Wish my WAL-Mart still sold them

Berkley vanish line
The stuff is absolute garbage. P-Line is WAY BETTER!!!!!
-
Fluoro line for spinning setups
When spooling my P-line on my spinning reel I constantly spray Reel Magic or KVD Conditioner on it to stop it from twisting. Also I try to keep the flat side of the spool facing the spool not like you would spool a baitcaster.
-
Size line for BC reels
The biggest line size I use on Baitcasters is 20lb for mono and fluoro.. Lightest 10lb. 50lb Braid. But I have a friend that uses 30lb mono on his.

Fiberglass vs. Aluminium
Their are competative Aluminium boats out there! Look at Tritions 19fters w/ 200 Mercs. Those are allowed in Pro Tournaments. In BassMaster Mag a few months ago the winner was using a Aluminium Trition. The reason most pros are using fiberglass is because they handle better in rougher water, are generally faster, and lets face it most fiberglass boats look better on tv.
-
senkos & line type
Fluorocarbon in warmer water where the fish are more aggressive and mono in colder water where the fish don't want to chase something down.
-
Favorite Lipless Crank?
Rat-L-Trap and Diamond Shad
-
Line for rat-l-traps
50lb Power Pro or 20lb P-Line Fluoro does the job well!
-
Braid. What is the best brand?
Power Pro ALL THE WAY!!!!!!
-
Flurocarbon
P-Line Fluoro is AWESOME!!!! It handles just like mono but its a fluorocarbon! it doesn't tangle, has good knot strength, abrasion resistant, and is easy to cast! Spray KVD line conditioner or Real Magic while spooling and once or twice a day while on the water.

rattle trap reel... which gear ratio???
The colder the water the slower the gear ratio aka 5.1:1 Curado, The warmer the water the faster the gear ratio aka 6.2:1 Citica, And then for Schooling fish were I need to really get my bait back after its left the strike zone a 7.1 Curado Is the way to go!
