My thoughts are if fishing a bait which the rod is used to impart action, fastest ratio possible especially if there is heavy cover/weeds around. Others a 6.x:1, except for deep cranks which I drop to a 5.x:1.

So glad my wife doesn't care what I buy whether fishing gear or photography equipment. Between the two probably around 6k so far this year. We keep money separate so we don't have the little issues over money. Also helps that she spends WAY more than me for her horses. Life is to short to worry about money. Talk to Mike at DVT about a custom, he just finished one for me to go with my Stradic CI4. It looks outstanding, and I got a chance to finally use it last weekend. I cannot express how good it fishes, Mike does outstanding work.

Here is a pic of my Ecoboost, this was the day I bought it. Since then I have added a hard bed cover, the bed is sprayed, K&N air intake and a Borla Type 2 Exhaust. At the next oil change I will be added a tuner for some more fun. Would do more but the dealer is a little irritating when it comes to aftermarket parts. And you are right Glenn the power is amazing, having 420ft-lbs of torgue at 2400 rpm is outstanding. No other 1500 size truck has the low end torque power of this engine, and does it without sacrificing fuel mileage.

Finally got out this weekend for two days on the hot side of lake Anna. Fishing was good both days for numbers, big fish was only 3.5 pounds. Only issue was it was nasty cold both days and raining half of Friday. New custom rod from DVT was great, got most fish on it and the big fish.

The part you will be on is not the hot side. There is a nuclear power plant on Anna. The portion referred to as the hot side is the discharge for the water used to cool the plant.

Finally got some time on the water, went down for a couple days to the hot side of Lake Anna. Fishing was good, caught a bunch of fish but biggest was only 3.5 pounds. Just wish air temp would have been higher, about froze each day. Needed to get out before my first tourney in two weeks. Not sure what BH looks like now, figured the heavy rains clouded it up. Look for the cleanest water you can find there, especially if you can find a line between dirty and clean water. They will do their best to get out of the dirty, crappy water. First rule of fishing dirty water, try to find clean water. if not available fish shallow.

some days it does not matter at all. but I have had days were watermelon got bit when green pumpkin didn't. Or watermelon red flake did and watermelon purple did not. Same baits, same confidence level. And there will be days when you are getting a lot of short strikes, one of the best things to do is adjust color a little. Goes from short strikes to solid strikes.

Other than the line choice yes, very well. But honestly switch to braid and use a leader, mono for topwater and flouro for others. You will be much happier.
