  1. Tourney on the St. Lawrence River, one of the pros ran 115 miles down to Lake Ontario. Worked for him he finished 1st and 2nd in back to back one day tourneys.
  2. So am I the only person who doesn't like the new EVA grip? I want to buy one, I love Shimano spinning reels, I use Stradics and one Saros. I keep playing with the CI4, so smooth, so light, but I can't get past the grip, its just really uncomfortable.
  3. Much prefer Hybrid UltraSoft for main line. I did buy some H2O at the same time which after experimenting a bit I will sometimes use as leader material. I haven't used enough different brands of fluoro to give an impartial assessment but based on my experience, I wouldn't buy it again.
  4. I have 4 mom & pop type stores within a 30 minute drive, each has its advantages. 2 are run by tournament bass anglers and cater to that market, mostly high end stuff and lots of good conversation and tips. The other sells a mind blowing selection of musky gear and the final one is the only place that carries rage tail anacondas and also happens to have really good shore fishing about 2 minutes away. We also have a small chain store in town, which I will visit to pick up some items but the customer service is terrible so I limit my purchases. I would say 80% of my tackle dollars goes to these local shops, 15% to on-line used gear sales and 5% or less to on line retailers.
  5. So do I. I think awesome is a bit of a stretch. Like anything there are some great shows (Lunkerville, Extreme Angler, Gettin School'd), some right dross and then some stuff I just don't care about, like fly fishing tuesdays. It's worth having just to have the option of watching fishing anytime.
  6. Looking for a 7' spinning rod which will mostly be used for weightless 5" and 6" senkos, ikas and beaver type baits. In instances where I'm bank fishing around my house, it will be my only rod and will likely face: LMB, SMB, Northern Pike and Muskies. I'm leaning towards the SJR 843, especially after Speedbead's thread the other day. However, I'm interested in views from those who use the PR 844. The other catch is I would have to buy the PR 844 without trying it out, no one around here will bring in a saltwater rod unless you commit to buying it. Cheers
  7. Its going to get harder for them. Even if they wanted to put together a harder schecule, few BCS teams are going to agree to play them.
  8. Loomis SBR 813 - for the 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz spinnerbaits I like to throw it's absolutely perfect.
  9. I'm not sure exactly which one was first, but the first three lures I remember having were: a red and white dardevle, a silver red eye wiggler and the mepps spinner with a rubber minnow (comet?). The only one I remember catching a fish on was the mepps, was a 1.5lb rock bass.
  10. Happy New Year's everyone. Stay safe and talk to you all in 2010.
  11. Not sure I understand your problem. A 7' medium spinning rod is an absolute staple. It can do everything except fish the really heavy slop. If you're looking to expand your collection, it really depends what type of fishing you want to do.
  12. only for the punchline
  13. Animal House Watch yourself kid or you'll find yourself floating home.
  14. Now....tell us how you're feeling this morning ;D
  15. The Wild One Yeah, do you have the Beatles' White Album? Never mind, just get me a glass of hot fat. And bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia while you're out there.
  16. [quote "That's Right. I've killed women and children. I've killed everything that walked or crawled at one time or another and I'm here to kill you Little Bill for what you done to Ned."
  17. 6'6" Medium Fast spinning rod with a 2500 or 3000 size reel. The Symetre combo RW posted above would serve anyone learning very well.
  18. I have the LTB version, I would say it fishes more like a M than an ML. It works well for shakey heads and other small plastics as well as drop-shotting. I would look to the 68MXF or the 70MF if its to be used mostly for senkos
  19. Old fashioned big bulbs in red, white and green on the trees out front of the house. All white mini lights on the christmas tree.
  20. And if I'd taken it to the cash I've been told that's also the law here, however, in asking about it, I wasn't buying it, so they had a chance to correct it. I think they should've offered it to me at the reduced price but it confirms why this particular store has a really poor reputation for customer service. And...sadly yes, snow tires are a necessity here.
  21. Sure am...but then its not a holiday here in the (not so) frozen north.
  22. While I was waiting to have my winter tires installed, I started wandering around one of the local tackle shops, one that has a really poor reputation for customer service, and therefore I don't frequent all that often and happened to start playing with the Loomis spinning rods - dreaming/planning for next spring and noticed that a BSR852 GLX had been priced as a Mossyback Instead of just taking it to the cash, buying it and then deciding if I was ever going to use it, I stupidly asked one of the staff about it. Of course, he immediately corrected the price. D'oh!! I'm still mad at myself.
  23. Johnson Silver minnow with a trailer - always with a trailer Original Rapala minnow 1/8 oz open jighead with 3 or 4" grub Heddon Moss Boss Rebel Buzz'n Frog - looks ridiculous but bass and pike just annihilate it
