Ok, this is a question I ask many of my fishing buddies.Which would you prefer, a guided trip to Lake Fork for Largemouth bass or a guided trip to Lake Erie for Smallmouth? Both lakes are great for catching large amounts of large fish of each species. I personally would choose Lake Erie because I have never had the chance to catch large small mouth before. I was just curious what you guys would rather.

I didn't have to spend much time deciding...

Lake Fork for 2 reasons, fished Lake Erie most of my life and never have been to Lake Fork. Lake Fork isn't far from the Gulf and I'd be there on the same trip.

Lake Fork. I caught my PB there (the one in my avatar) and it's only four and a half hours away.

I would love to fish either one and I hope to make a trip down to Lake Fork next spring, but I would choose Erie to answer the question. I love fishing structure, and have not caught a smallmouth over about three pounds. There is something about the challenge of open water that appeals to me. I have stood on the shore of Lake Erie, in Erie, Pa when the wind was up, and that was an impressive sight.

I voted lake Fork, I have yet to catch a SMB in my 40+ years of fishing and really would like to know what a 5 or 6 lb smallie is like, but I chose Fork instead because I really want a chance to get a double digit LMB...and to fish with Long Mike, that would be a dream come true !!!

Kinda like Long Mike, I can be on Lake Erie in 4 1/2 hours. As a matter of fact, I'm surrounded by good/great smallmouth fishing.

But I can only find the Mesquite BBQ in Texas. I'll take Lake Fork!

I catch a good small mouth every year 6 lbs. or over in my lakes. And I am not braggin! So lake Fork for me, to have a chance at a 10lb'er or better.

Lake Fork FTW. I would love to have the opportunity to land one of them monsters!!

I been to lake fork so I pick lake Erie. Never been and plus I would love hook a 6lb smallie!

I've caught a DD largemouth but still hunting for a smallie over 6, Erie without even having to think about it.

Fork, I just love catching huge largemouth (really, I would like to go to falcon more though)

I love Texas too much, i had to pick Fork. Although now that i think about it i would rather catch some smallies in erie. Never been smallie fishing and i live 2 hours from fork. Yep, Erie it is!

May 23 at daylight I'll have this scene in a cove on Lake Fork except most of the stumps will be under the surface (I took this picture last year). It's only a 17 hour drive:

Like RW it took zero thinking.......Erie for sure

I voted Lake Erie. I can be at Fork in under 3 hours. I would rather try something different.

I went lake fork. I want a double digit fish and that is probably my best chance.

RW had his HANDSFULL making that decision :cool-045:

Erie. We don't have smallmouth within day trip distance and I would love getting stuck into some decent smallies.

Fork for me.

Largemouth aren't my thing, but I pick Lake Fork anyway cause I fish Erie whenever I want. It's pretty sad that my PB smallie is more than 2# bigger than my PB largie!

  • Super User

Lake fork, simply because I never been there. I did Lake Erie a few times, only once by boat and caught my PB smallmouth there.

I'd like to caught a couple LM over 5-10#.....it's kinda hard to do here.

Ill take erie because Fork would not be my first choice for big large mouth, infact my choice number one is okeechobee which I fish commonly.
